The best tutorial. I made my first quilted pillowcase. Thank you.
Thank you Megan!!! You made me look good in front of my daughter in law who wanted pillows for my granddaughter. I’m a quilter. I don’t know how to sew. You made it easy. Thank you!!!
Love your term “path of sadness”. What a great way to describe mistakes!
lol. Thanks! I'm always worried my quirky sense of humor won't quite translate :)
This is definitely easier than folding the back. I sew bags, so know how to sew zippers. Thanks so much. I am making sublimation pillow covers.
I Love, Love your channel. You explain everything so well. You are also very encouraging for your audience
Where did I learn to sew? Under a rock? I always have a revelation about sewing when I watch you! I've been sewing and quilting for @ 30 years. Please keep up the videos! We need them. Break our own bad habits or have a skill set explained in detail so we have to confidence to try it! And our success brings joy that spills into the rest of our world. And Lord knows we need more joy.
I just wanted to leave you a note and say thank you so much. Your tutorial was the best I’ve found and I followed it step by step. First time, I didn’t leave enough seam allowance and didn’t catch the seam under the zipper. 😢🙄. So bummed. It I did it again today and I succeeded, so proud of my pillow. I’m make a quilt for my mom and MIL for Christmas and now they’ll each have a matching pillow from scraps. Your voice is so soothing, you explain things well, so glad I found you. And that wash away tape, the BOMB! Thanks again:)
Thank you!! I'm so glad you liked the finished result! I've done that same thing with the zipper! The tape does help it stay in place a little better so you can more easily catch it all. :)
You are so quotable, "...and that leads to The Path of Sadness..." LOL
You are the reason why Tuesdays are my favourite day.
Thank you. So helpful and easy to follow ❤
I wasn’t going to watch this video as I thought I knew how to do cushion covers. I have learnt some new tips and like Karyn’s comment, I’ve been sewing a long time but am learning how to do free motion now. Such a bonus to practise on samples and then turn them into cushions so the material isn’t wasted. Thank you, Megan. I’m loving all your videos.
What a very clear explanation! Thank you :)
You make it look so easy.
I like this video, she explains it all!
Yes... I need that Wonder tape! Headed to your link now! TFS
Thank you. I watched another video on quilted pillows & liked it enough to try it but still felt something missing until yours! I will definitely be trying this way!
I've never tried sewing a zip before. I never had the courage . LOL. After watching your tutorial, maybe its time to try sewing one. Thanks for the video. 🌷
Thank you... excellent tutorial!
a great way to use up those samples for FMQ.. thanks for sharing
I have learned so much from you, thank you🤩
Thank you! The zipper installation makes so much sense! I am going to use this technique when making pouches with a zipper.
I hope it is successful to you!! Its definitely the easiest way I've ever tried :)
Very helpful video, thank you!
Very beautiful
Such a practical use for all that practicing!!! Love the bright zipper, too.
Thank you for easier way to install a zipper. Love the pop of color!
Thank you. The zipper tricks are priceless! Looking forward to making the next pillow cover.
You are so welcome! These pillows are one of my favorite small projects to make, so I'm glad to pass along all my tips :)
I was looking at my sofa pillows last night and thinking how I needed to make some nice covers for them....and here you are!! I've done several of these in the past, but you had a couple of neat tricks I had not seen before. Thanks for your concise instructions!
I'm so glad you liked them!! I love adding zippers to pillowcases but I remember it being really daunting in the beginning :)
Loved this!
Perfect timing! I was just thinking I'd make a pillow in the next couple of weeks. I've never seen anyone reinforce the corners like that but I like it. Thank you for the video! I like the way you do your pillows!
Thank you for your tutorials. A great teacher!
AMAZING!!!! thank u...making your bear paw pillow can't wait to try this zipper technique....happy new subscriber 😁
Thank you 😊 I’ve saved it to watch next time I’m making cushions your method is so much better than what I was trying to do!
I think the “wrong side” would look great, too!
great tutorial -- I make pillows all the time but usually do the envelope backing -- I've got some extra zippers and will give this a try -- you definitely made it look easy -- definitely my kind of project♥
This was super easy to follow along with! And it looks so clean! Can't wait to try it out. Thank you :)
I love how you teach! I like to make covers for my current toss pillows that no longer match my style.
Very cool idea, great zipper tutorial! Thank you for this 💓
thanks so much love this, l'm going to try this method for the zip next time l make a pillow you made it look easy :)
Thanks
Good Morning Megan 😁 I love the quilting you did on this pillow cover 🥰 sew pretty.
Right now I’m working on the Mistake Road To California. I also made a mistake trying to replicate the big block size & put them together differently than yours 😳🤣😂, I Love It! Actually, I love any super sized blocks. Well, I’ll just have to make another! Have a good week, 💜 Chris-Raleigh NC
Love love your quilting design - feathers with tendrils and leaves! Is the design available for purchase? I live in Australia. Thank you for this new-to-me zipper technique.
Love it! Where did you get the seam guide you have attached to your juki. I have the same machine😊
So no backing materials?
I’m trying my hand at making some small projects that are quilted and my first will be a throw pillow with a down insert do I just use my top fabric and batting?
I have 2 tricks for you:
For ZIPPERS: I release my thread tension, baste and to remove it, I find the cut end of the bobbin tread and pull on it. It should
pull easely and the top thread will release also in one go.
For PILLOW CORNERS: When the pillow is filled, the corner won't have a 90' degree anymore due to the stuffing lifting the side fabric making a pointy corner. So about 2" inches before sewing the corner , I increase the seam allowance making it a wider corner angle to compensate. The higher the stuffing, the wider the angle should be. Or you can also make a regular 90', stuff and see exactly how much you need to remove and then correct the corner over the previous one.
I have metal zippers. What was the reference you gave?
I'm finding that pillow forms are EXPENSIVE! I'm thinking about going to a discount store and picking up some inexpensive pillows there to recover. The last time I went to the fabric store the size pillow forms I wanted were almost $30!!! Yikes!
yikes!! Thats so expensive. I have some from ikea that were reasonable although I bought them ages ago. For the newer ones I have, I've ended up scouting the clearance areas for decorative pillows with less than lovely prints. I know I'll make covers for them anyway :)
I had no idea you could trim zippers like that - genius!
