    Beautifull car. I love it. Samurai and electric is the perfect match. You are a person who cares about the details, I can see it in the homemade cell phone holder. perfect integration. Congrats on the project.

    Awesome music (very Dropbox-y vibe) and awesome build. Someday I'd love to do a conversion like this to my truck. Someday.

    I've been wanting to do the exact same thing; turn a Samurai into an electric vehicle. Searched on UA-cam and found your video. Excellent work. ..and many thanks for providing an open book to your build. I'd love to sit down with you, have a beer and pick your brain. Would be curious to know how much the VOLT packs set you back???
    Stay safe and enjoy.

    Hey there I am interested convert my Suzuki Samurai long 1,9d for electric and my question is how much did you spend money for components and how many km/h he can drive.

      Touch Today I bought most of the parts used a couple of years ago. I could probably build this with all new stuff not including batteries for 7000. I use this car as a daily driver so I need the back seat. So I get about 40 miles. Once my last kid starts driving, I’m pulling the back seat out and doubling my pack. Hope that helps.

    What’s the range? Does it make it all the way through the R ubicon? Super cool!

    Very awesome build!
    1. How did you set up the electric motor to work with the transmission, seeing how most electric motors directly drive the wheels?
    2 . What is the survivability of this in a wet off road environment?

    • @beyondroads
      @beyondroads  5 років тому

      Brandon Rabon I used an adapter for the geo metro and a flywheel coupler from CanEV. I wanted to use a clutch because in the rocks, I may need to quickly shift gears or go into reverse. If I went direct it would be difficult to shift when the motor is in regenerative braking.
      The grill area and “floor” of the engine compartment is enclosed to reduce the amount of mud and water exposer to the motor. I drive it in the rain, snow, and across water crossing, and mud hole but I don’t submerge it. The motor is about 22” off the ground.

    Hi, very god job! You are on the top. Can you give me the info on this motor please? I have the same idea to convert my samuraï.

      Steevy Jean Baptiste it’s a HPEV 31. The newer AC34 or 35 or 50 are even better. I’m also kind of interested in the new Hyper 9 for my next build. You can email me for more info. Batt1713@gmail.com

    Great, I til the battery is dead 500 miles from the nearest power lines.

  • @500846

    How much does the range change on gravel? Does driving slow on rough tracks give you less/ Same/ more range? If you can get 100miles driving at 60mph on tarmac, can you get further driving slower on gravel tracks?

    • @beyondroads
      @beyondroads  5 років тому

      5OO846 I’m sure it decreases the range some, but that is not scientific because I would need to travel the same exact roads at the same speed to figure it out. When I reduce tire pressure In the rocks, it is a pretty good drag on the highway which I’m sure reduces the range.

    Wow awesome build, what is your range now with the volt batteries?

    • @beyondroads
      @beyondroads  6 років тому

      Grider Family I currently have 3/4 of the volt pack. For crawling it lasts 10 hours. For road about 40 miles and freeway 30. I still have a back seat. Been thinking of adding more batteries and removing back seat. My kids might get mad...

    • @LiveOff-Road
      @LiveOff-Road 2 роки тому

      @@beyondroads Why not keep the back seat and put batteries mostly under the floor? There is plenty of room under the front seats and on either side of the driveline under the rear floor. Even where the fuel tank would normally be. Without exhaust and fuel tank it seems like you would have lots of room to put batteries down low for low COG and would not affect the original utility of the Samurai. You could even cut access doors through the floor if you wanted easier access to batteries.

    • @beyondroads
      @beyondroads  2 роки тому

      @@LiveOff-Road yeah, the Chevy Volt batteries are too tall for that and since it was built for the rubicon it would need skid plates and still get hung up and need to be in waterproof containers. Maybe next time, Tesla style batteries packs that can be made to fit in smaller and different shaped areas would work….

      I designed the most advanced battery pack that is not even currently available. My partner and I are in Florida and are gearing up for building some electric porshes and Lamborghinis. We have built six so far and I really want to do a samurai. We get over 700 miles on a charge. Pretty high tech. Great build. Id love to see it in person sometime. Feel free to get in touch if interested in the power cell. Talk to you sometime soon.
