Hey! Just wanted to say that your video was exactly what I was looking for. I stopped playing Pokémon games after Black? because I got super burnt out from EV training and min-maxxing. But recently I've been returning to console games and I picked up Legends Arceus and it definitely brought back my nostalgia for Pokémon. I've been enjoying PLA so far, but I suppose FOMO kicked in for Scarlet and Violet and so I've been on the fence with it. I think after seeing your video it kind of locked me in to giving it a pass for now and just enjoying all of PLA. I've been itching to grind leveling, but I think the cons of Scarlet and Violet weigh more for me. Thanks again!
@@ContentFreeTime sorry, also forgot that you're very well spoken. You sound very relaxed and so your content feels natural! But yeah, definitely looking forward to the next Legends!
The video is giving a very good insight into the positives and negatives of Scarlet and Violet. But the content creator just reviewed these game from the perspective of a casual pve player. If you (which you said you had before) play online battles a lot and care about competing, Scarlet and Violet are one of the if not the best editions. That is also important to know. I adore VGC in this gen. And the music: well there was a song shown that is underwhelming. But most of the songs are absolutely amazing. Scarlet and Violet should not be labeled bad games because they aren’t. If the mechanical problems weren’t a thing, this edition would be praised so much more.
The battle system change is most likely due to the re-inclusion of multiplayer battling. Since Arceus is a single-layer game, most balancing concerns and restrictions could be removed to facilitate the experience. Now, since the main system has to account for people battling against each other, all of that is stripped out, and the turn based battling is re-implemented Could they have a dual system where-in battles function differently in single-player than in multiplayer? Yes. Will they? No. Especially since: 1. Gamefreak can't seem to code. 2. they would have concern that the mechanics you spend time with over the course of the main game wouldn't 100% translate to multiplayer. 3. Mirror B has more style in his ring finger than Scarlet and Violet.
@ContentFreeTime They've got bigger fires. They keep adding Pokémon increasing the animation burden. they dont seem to have saved their work over the generations that had 3d before. They're having an identity crisis with the battle system in general. They can't seem to design for the switch. compare this to another game similar in scope, XBC3, and see the vast difference in visuals and performance. and all this from the company with the worlds most profitable franchise. this should really have more talent and man power behind it . . . but it just doesn't
I found violet in the clearance ile at a store on base for $17.99 and picked it up. I have not opened it yet and had originally planned on skipping it, but I might as well give it a try. Loved Arceus, sword and shield was ok. We’ll see how this one goes
@@blandspaghettidinner8949there are 2-3 good retrospective reviews on the game if you’re willing to search it. They all underline the same thing; - Good open world/vibrant and fresh - Best story in a long time - Frame rate and performance isn’t the best - Towns being dead and bland It’s practically what everyone says: One step forward two steps backwards. But if you’re wanting to just dive in cause of a Pokemon itch, I’d say go for it. I’ll be trying to get into the game next week as well.
He doesn't like how you have to wait for the night cycle to come by, so instead he'd rather wait until actual night comes by. Other than that I absolutely agree 🤭
If Scarlet and Violet were a 20$ game, they would be worth your money. But I just cant pay 50$ for that, its an absurd. Gonna play PLA for the 5th time now lol
Megas going to some Pokemon who didn't need it made fighting any metagame rather centralized since who's going to mega Glalie or Beedrill when you can mega Salamence. I understand detail may be cooler aesthetically to have unique designs but I was never one who latched onto Lucario or Charizard that much, and for gameplay and mechanics' sake I prefer gimmicks that are as balanced as possible and function for every Pokemon. Ironic that two of the three Pokemon who couldn't Dynamax, Eternatus and Zamezenta, were hardly used despite having moves that did double damage to dynamax Pokemon (Zacian was clearly on drugs so she works and counts differently). One big reason people latch onto the 2d games is similar to why a bunch of the settings for SwSh look good too, its all about the angles they want to show the game to you. They intended for you to only see forward in these routes and not adjust the camera. This is opposed to the open world of SciVi having to commit to being ready to show you the scenary at any angle, which from a logistic standpoint would require so much time and detail that I know the project cycle wouldn't allow, remember they have to push out the card gsme and plushies so production on the main games needs to be rushed! If these games had 1 more year of dev time each, I can imagine the games would be amazing, but alas... the stares these games are released in are inexcusable. You would also think that ditching the gyms and using the open world for the gym challenges would have much more flexibility and creativity to them, instead we have >find the recycled Clavel model >bean soccer in a game that CERTAINLY doesnt prioritize physics (has your pokemon ever spawned in battle sliding down a hill?) Also, on that note, the questionnaire you get in the Elite 4 is very very dull. Amusing that you auto fail if you say you don't love Pokemon. I also love Larry but the fact the E4 reuses not one but 2 characters through the story made me roll my eyes. Speaking of towns and shops, I also hate how homogenous the shops look and feel. Its often hard to distinguish them apart and in a town like the university town you need to toggle in and out of the map ao frequently to see. Unfortunately I do indeed use the sandwhiches because it is the major way to -shiny hunt -breed and hatch eggs -grind treasure from event raids It even is quite streamlined if you know what you're making, although I never have and probably never eill use 90% of recipes because they're ao all over the place with the powers they give you. When will I ever need a catch power grass and spawn power psychic when I could just make a custom sandwhich with catch and spanw powers for grass? And its not like these custom sandwhiches are able to be figured out easily, I used calculators and already made spreadsheets. As much as I could praise the sandwhiches compared to curry in swsh or the O powers in ORAS there is no such thing as a perfect upgrade with Gamefreak ever. Speaking of imperfect design modernizations, its fascinating how consice and functional the school classes serve as turorials for the game, for someone like me who hasnt played this series for 25 years I can see it helping explain some things (some) to a fresh player. Its weird though because once the main game starts off and you can begin to roam the world, you pretty much forget about it. I went back and 100%ed the classes and it seems like some have decent unlocks like higher tier raids post game or the ruin quartet legends, but the rest are just fluff and tutorial. Again, it works somewhat but could be perfected more. If the uniforms had more customizations from stock it would be significantly better. Pre DLC I had to choose between goofy suspenders or a black jacket with pants. I chose the jacket with pants, but I also went from that to a yukata. Tera raids are better than dmax raids, but holy moly is it still a problem. Yes! The raids take forever to join, and just like SwSh they don't let you just refresh the lobby display that easy, WHY HASN'T THIS BERN CONSIDERED?! But considering how fragile the gamestate is in online play at all this is par for the course. If you disconnect ONCE from a battle its over, and you probably lost. If the game could just temp save the state of the battle every turn and try to reconnect after a DC I can imagine it would help so many people and prevent so many dropped matches. Also, raids while improved still seem to be confused about priority and who's console to listen to at a time, and it breaks apart easily. Cant count the number of times the camera broke during someone terastilizing in a raid, which just causes everything else to despawn to save frames (something you wouldnt see if the camera worked all the time). Area Zero was really cool the first time! It's such a shame that you cant set up a picnic or even access your Pokeportal in A0 even after you beat it, such a pain. One more complaint, when your pokemon takes damage often your health bar disappears so quickley that you can't even see what it did.
I think the games should've kept the real world day/night cycle but as long as no pokemon has a 0% encounter rate at any time. I'm ok with it fluctuating but everyone playing these games is either an adult with a job or a kid that goes to school. Bring back the Morn/Day/Nite label when you catch a pokemon and call it a day. It just makes the games feel more immersive.
It's really starting to seem like Pokemon's afraid of doing new or innovative stuff, maybe because they're afraid the nostalgic players will hate it so they'll lose money. It's getting pretty boring.
Really? I feel the complete opposite. They keep doing these gimmicks when what they really should do is stop releasing two versions and make one game with no gimmicks, good post-game content, and I would actually like a real world clock (as long as no pokemon have a 0% chance of showing up at any given time). I haven't played a switch pokemon game so maybe i;m wrong, but from what I see I would 100% buy a new pokemon game this moment if there's no gimmicks, it runs great (which it should), and has a good post game. I don't even care if they don't add any new pokemon to the game, I just want a solid experience and them trying new things is what's holding them back in my opinion.
I haven't liked pokemon since x & y (not a pokemon fan). It's really sad to watch such a successful i.p. drop the ball over and over, with no legitimate excuse.
Awesome video, great detail, Pokémon headquarters need to watch this video and correct their next game Pokémon A-Z on all the points you have raised! @pokemon
