And here it is 2021 and I stumble on this video, a flood of memories coming in. I was 15 when the 'new' '81 Granada came out and I thought it was one of the classiest looking cars on the road. I spent several months trying to talk my grandmother into buying one and she finally did. It was a pewter 81 GL with the half vinyl roof in red with a red cloth interior. It wasn't as loaded as this one, but those seats seemed like the most comfortable seats in the world to me at the time. I was only a passenger in it for several months until I got my license at 16 and got to drive it everywhere we went. Grandma really didn't like to drive and was thrilled I could chauffeur her around. At home, my parents had a '69 Camaro SS 350 and a ''72 GMC 2500 4x4 350 to drive and it was then I discovered how incredibly gutless that little 3.3 liter I-6 was, especially here in Colorado at high altitude. Oh my God, it was like just bury the pedal to the floor and pray something would happen at some point. It also bobbed and porpoised around like it was on marshmallows and had the cornering ability of a portable dishwasher, but I still loved that damn thing. Grandma kept it for 2 years until I started to have nightmares about her getting in a wreck in it. I talked her into a Volvo 244DL with the 4-speed + electric OD and slept better afterwards. I liked that Volvo a lot too and ended up with it when she bought a new car 3 years later. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'd buy that Granada if it wasn't 10 years later.
Jeff "portable dishwasher" 😂🤣
Yeah bud im with you, it brings back memories. Super hard to acknowledge this is 40years old now!!
Shit, soon you and I will be thrilled to be "chauffeured around" .....nahhhh lol I got a feeling you like to drive as much as I do so we'll put that off for another 40 years or so
Be safe my friend ✌🏾
these are GREAT cars ! I had the '78 in white with the straight six and i got about 32-34 miles per gallon . And it ran forever . I traded mine in when i just started having issues with the motor at about 379000 miles . The dealer turned around and sold it again and i still see the thing on the road . They just never die ! Wish the newere cars were as great . :) Yours here is a beauty !
I'd be proud to drive this one. Back In 1990 I Had a 1977 Granada I bought from an old guy who was practically blind from macular degeneration. It had 18,500 original miles and was in a garage it's whole life. It was like this car, old but brand new! It truly was an awesome car. I sometimes wished I had kept it. It sold no problem when I listed it online.
Nathan is the Bob Ross of describing car condition . . . One happy little scrape here . . . Don’t wanna miss this ding right here. So good at his craft.
it looks like an 80's Rolls Royce pretty clean 👍 I'll drive it
Probably the cleanest one in all North America... (and the last one !)
Ford built a number of cars on the fox body starting in 1978 with the Ford Fairmont and the Mercury Zypher . Then the Mustang for a number of years as well as the Granada and Thunderbird in the early 1980's. It's great to see this survivor car and it's so nice. Those older cars have a lot more character than the new ones of today and they are also simple without the complex electronics of today.
I had a white one i bought in texas without a license in 2005 for $700. Got a couple driving on revokes in 2006-2008 in Illinois. Good times... Car had so much room under the hood. Mine was stock. Motor woulda ran forever. Had to scrap it and the guy ripped me off $5 doing so in Peoria. Never forget. Good times...
Thanks for the memory, my father had the Mercury verion (Marquis) an '82 model almost identical to this as his last car!
I think for the 1982 model year it was known as the Cougar sedan. The mid-sized Marquis production started in 1983.
Great video. I had an 81 Granada just like this one, except for power windows. My Granada was pewter "silver" with red interior. My all time favorite car. I wish I still had it.
We have a 1982 Mercury Cougar GS 4 door sedan in our family with only 35000 original miles. It has the straight 6 and it is a great car!
dude thats nice,, my grandpa had one when i was a little kid , a green one
they rode nicely and were reasonably quiet. nice. i shoulda had one back in the day.
Wow Nathan! This is an AWESOME example of an early 80's family sedan! Looks like it belongs in a museum! This is a loaded GL which is the mid-range of the line, with the L being the base model and the GLX being the top of the line. They were powered by a woefully underpowered 2.3 litre Pinto, nee Mustang, 4- cylinder, with a 3.3 litre I-6 optional and what you have here, the 3.8 litre V-6 engine which replaced the 4.2 litre V-8. You should have no trouble selling this one!! Good luck!!
I owned an 82 Granada I got from my wife's uncle, the original owner. Finally retired her at 330,000, and it only had the straight 6. Great heat, great A/C great ride, and the quietest vehicle I ever owned. Only thing I see unusual, is the pinstripe. In 82, the pinstripes were hand painted on. Someone will be buying a beauty.
Great condition! awesome, very beautiful
Never thought much of these cars when they were new, but they look mighty stylish now.
Very interesting Nathan. I have never seen a quad-headlight Granada before. Gives it a more stately LTD look. I like it.
This one is nice. Looks like a baby '88 - '91 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Great video's keep them coming..i enjoy watching the variety of cars you show.
Very good improvement over the previous Granadas.
Definitely a classic! The car is flawless, very elegant!
Beautiful! Gotta love these old Ford cars!!!!! ;-) and trucks!!!
I was in high school when this thing was new..and I think Matlock T.V show had this car. This is the predecessor to the current Ford Crown Victoria and the panther platform, and if the engine ever dies, the Ford 302 H.O will fit, and so will the Ford 351W. They are a direct drop in engine into this car if the original motor ever dies. Museum level car. Nice to see.
Love the oddball cars!!!
This car was a sleeper. Had ton of room under the hood. Light body. Great car!
Essentially a gussied up Fairmont. It even has the same annoying buzzer as my 1979 Fairmont sedan. Another mistake Ford made was the horn in the turn signal stalk. The engines were all compromises. The 2.3 was underpowered but reasonable on fuel. The 200 six was reliable and smooth but slow. The Essex 3.8 which was essentially a reverse engineered Buick 231 V6 had a bit more power but had issues with popping head gaskets and didn't seem to last as long as the better 200 six. Another gaffe was putting the power seat controls in the middle of the split bench thus making the front seat restricted to 2 people. Ford did do a great job with interior space and the trunk is large for a mid size. These also borrowed the rack and pinion steering from the Fairmont which gave great response. Loved seeing this low mileage time capsule.
I love the car. I have a 1982 mercury cougar sedan GS 77k original. Same car. Beautiful car you have
Quit lying you drive an expedition
Ha~ good video. Long time sub. Thanks for all of the videos.
We got one of these Granada's as a hire car back in October 1981 when we flew to LA
to do a touring holiday of the West Coast. We drove all around LA and surrounding
area, then into the Mojave desert to Las Vegas, then down to the Grand Canyon and
back to LA. The car was completely reliable throughout the trip, I think it had a 3.3 six
cylinder engine, if my memory serves me correct. The only thing I didn't like was the
vinyl seats in it, which got really hot standing out in that Californian sun. Otherwise, a
great car.
Definitely a classic! No blue faces here!
This was THE CAR. This was THE sedan that decided that hey...let's put DAT Blue Oval on our cars.
nice ride
Nice looking car. I recall that it was also available as a 2 door, badged a "Mercury Cougar" for a year or two. I would guess 1981 and 1982, just before the new "aero" style Cougar and Thunderbird made their debut in 1983.
Thank you for posting!
CH67guy1 Yes the Mercury cougar was basically a 2 door Granada.
Whether a two door or a four door, we sure did not see many of them on the road. And that is sad. I looked at a used 1982 Cougar, but eventually opted for a 1984 Cougar (aero style) that I bought as a repo. It was one of my favorite cars ever. Just a base model, 3.8 liter, 3 speed automatic. But it had "the look". And it was a VERY sharp car. Mine was white with red cloth interior. I had the windows blacked out. Beautiful dash. There are truly no stylish new cars to choose from today in the middle of the road price range.
Where is your used car business? I am in Pennsylvania.
Now this I love. Great video!
This is a nice example. Except that my friend had one that was junk, flimsy and gutlass. Go over train tracks and the roof would make noise. We called it the granoodle.
I think this might be my new favourite affordable classic sedan. It's such a classy looking car.
There is another car that would be an awesome find...even I would have an interest in, is a loaded 1980 GM X-car (Chevy Citation, Pontiac Phoenix, Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Omega) equipped with the V-6 engine and automatic. The V-6 is unique to the 1980 model as opposed to other years because it has a protective flap that hangs down from the engine. If you face the car, the flap will be on the left side. It is a shield to keep heat off the drive belts. Good luck!! ;-)
Our family owns a 1974 Ford Ranger that has 37k miles. When we got it in '05, it had the ORIGINAL '74 tires on it.
I have a mercury cougar cloth top four door and it is a gs green paint job and it look EXACTLY like the ford Granada
keep up the good work n those good videos
While still not a Mercedes-Benz, I still found this more attractive than the earlier Granada.
Yo tengo uno todavía en Venezuela los usamos ya va para 20 anos conmigo claro aquí se usan para trabajar y lo tengo a GNV aguanta de todo este carro
What a beauty. So sad, that America has lost its own style to design cars...
Nice Car
Nice!
My grandpa had a 75 for Granada which he bought new. Wish I still had that car, matter in fact I never saw it :/
I had one of this and the next model...nice powerful engine but I like the malibu better.
Fairmont dash instantly recognized.
I agree with you 100 percent is a classic car but I don't do think that it hasnt been driven that much!!!!
The 3.8 litre v6 had surprisingly good pickup for just 115 hp, although it was no hot rod. The 5.0
would've sucked down more fuel . Wonder what it would've done with the current 3.5 Ecoboost
V6 and a modern transmission. Let's not forget better tires, and brakes.
Pretty clean car but I didn't watch the whole video so I don't know if mentioned or even noticed that it's missing the chrome trim on the front passengers wheel well. And also on the passengers rear wheel well that's more than just a scuff it's actually dented in on the body between the fender and the back door. But otherwise that's a really clean car
The small Lincoln town car!
nice car...at all!!
I know a garage queen when I see one. lol
That Fox body style of the Ford Granada was only offered for 2 years in 2 door, 4 door and station wagon body styles from 1980-1982. The Ford Fairmont and the Mercury Zephyr were also the same body style as well 1977-1983 as well as the Ford Thunderbird and the Mercury Cougar 1980-1982, 1982 was the only year you could buy a Cougar station wagon. From 1983 -1986 all of them were transformed into the mid size Ford LTD and the Mercury Marquis.
Donald Thompson There was also a Cougar station wagon in 1977. That one was formerly the Montego (the Ford version, formerly the Torino, was renamed LTD II). The earlier Cougar wagon also lasted one year, replaced by the Zephyr wagon (Fairmont at Ford). The Granada was replaced by a Fairmont-based model in 1981; the Mercury was renamed Cougar, taking over for the Monarch. In '82, Ford decided to take the wagons out of the Fairmont/Zephyr line and move them into the Granada/Cougar range, since they were already similar.
i like the crackles
I always thought this was such a nicely styled car, like a 3/4 size LTD--such a shame you couldn't get anything larger than the awful 255 V-8 in it. The 302 would have been perfect.
dam I had the 2 door it was tan and I got it in Hawaii drove it from Cali to Colorado
Oh these were excellent cars, mines was a 1982 Mercury Cougar, 4dr sedan V&6 3.8 engine auto, oh I loved that car, it was a 2 tone color moroon & silver, it was jus marvelous, until some bastard vandilized it, the police didn't do a damn thing about it, not even extra patrol, bastards!!!!! This VIDEO was jus nice more please,💯✌️👍
Amazing car! What did you end up getting for it?
78 ford granada was my first car
It looks like it was first plated in CA in (early) '92. I had a GT with plates starting with '2Z' March of '92. Its easy to tell the age of the plates are, just by the digits.
I'm sure you've seen the newest California plates; they begin with an '8.' Wonder what will come after the last of the '9' plates?
I knew someone who had one, the roof was like tin, made the "Tin" noise when you closed the door, you could push down on it with your hand, it would bend like an aluminum beer can. Why was that, nice car other than that.
ahaha. Low mile? No way! unless you know someone at the ford museum. That made me laugh hahaha
Nice Car! And I agree with you on calling this as a "Classic". It is after all, nearly 30yrs old. But, even more important (in my mind) is that it still looks like a car and not some "Jetson Mobile", It's rear-wheel-drive (as a REAL car should be), and is still outfitted with real metal bumpers and bedecked with chrome! By the way, what are you asking for it?
Still have it
I need some cougar or granada tail lights.
odd question but how warm is it where you live
nathan can i ask u something? i see lot of these american cars have 5 digit odometer, so after 99 999 miles it starts again at 00 000 right ? so if we have old car like this one, can you somehow tell is it 30 000 miles, or has it gone around many times and have in reality like 200 000 miles? sorry if my english is not that good but im sure you understand what im asking. thanks in advance for reply...
how much for that big ring that you have on
Almost ran out of gas with it there here there here
whos watching in 2019?
me :-)
I'm watching this on 3/17/2020!
2020 im a interior lover
who the F isn't watching?
I drive a 1985 jeep cj7 everyday
Did you sell this?
It's a nice car, but I'd rather have a 60s era Falcon, Fairlane or Torino. Or maybe a pre catalytic converter Plymouth Scamp, Dodge Dart, or Plymouth Duster with a Slant Six or 318.
Is that a 3.0 Vulcan V6? That's been around forever. Think those been around since the 1960s
The 3.0 Vulcan V6 was introduced in 1986 on the Taurus and Sable.
this is got to b on the road still
The car is missing the front right wheel well molding. Otherwise a quite nice car.
No trunk mat? No owners manual
i do not the american granada i know european version as our local or home docktor had one.american version do not know.looked bit like the fairmount
An 82 Granada "investment" material? That may be stretching it a bit mr. salesman!
Still has that annoying buzzer! Surprised electronic chime didn't replace it.
Ah Nathan.... where oh where do you find these time warp gems??? Ford should have this in their museum if they have one! This puts ALL new ford cars to SHAME!!! Its all cheap plastic mass production these days......
Didn't the Taurus replace this later in 85?
The Fairmont was inbetween the Granada and the Taurus.
@@Romiman1 awesome info. I wasn't alive then for Fairmont or Granada years but I did grow up with several Tauruses, Rangers and 2 first gen Fusions a 2010 SPORT which my Dad bought brand new and its mine now and a 2012 SEL which was traded in for a 2018 Escape SE . love the Ford's though all nice cars/ trucks
@@mattmaverick703 Okay. I was a child at that time, but I didn't get anything around because of living in Germany. The only US cars I knew about were the boxy Caprice (which I have had later on), the Camaro Gen2 and of course the Jeep (CJ). I started to love theese cars and later on almost every US car from 1940-1999. Befor that my favorite cars were Citroen CX, Mercedes W110/111 and Opel Diplomat. Today I still love the classic US cars, but only ride a Hyundai as daily. (There were too much issues with the Caprice and a later on driven Cadillac S.deVille). But I miss their style and smooth ride...
You're thinking of the Fox body LTD.
The panel gap on this thing is atrocious
burnout tires
Pretty sure that thing's been in an accident. The way that the front fenders and Hood don't even line up in the passenger's door looks like it's caved in between the front fender and the door. The front bumper has way too much of a gap like it's hanging down. and those front bumper corners do not even match the car so it looks like it's had a different bumper put on the front like some aftermarket or the wrong bumper. Pretty sure that car's been in a front end hit or more
dont get me wrong love all ur videos but every car is going to have a defect on it its a used car
all it is is a jazzed up ford faramont.
3:03 Worst oil filter made....
The Granada was President Obama's first car.
NOT a Canadian car, thats for sure
a snod remark? how about fact. and besides if ou dont' like what i said oh well, then ignore it.
im still alive
Unique little car? Nothing little about those.
They were little compared to the cars of the 70's lol
The Europe built 1982 ford Granada 2.3 v6 GL was way better
This car is far uglier, less rigidly built, & has far worse handling/ride combination than the German Ford Granada of that time period
you just waisting time showing all those defects just show the car too much time waisted
