It does an old sailors heart a lot of good to know there are folks who have enough appreciation for history to want to preserve it in ships like Texas. One of the most decorated aircraft carriers was sold for scrap and that is a heart breaking tragedy for those of us who served aboard her. Cherish USS Texas for the diamond she is. The history in her decks was not cheap.
Yes.
The new generations , must remember and know and understand , in gratitude and humility , thankfulness of the men who have passed once walking those decks. 🇺🇸
Enterprise. How I wish I could’ve seen her outside of photos…
How much did you donate to save that carrier?
@@zachboyd4749 Constellation
@@lawrencewiddis2447 Since the Constellation was not privately owned, donations were not requested or optional. The Navy sold it her for scrap.
The Residents of and the State of Texas should be proud of the transformation and repairs to THE LAST Battleship of her class left in existance and saving her from the scrappers. A lot of work left to do on the inside but at least now there is a much less threat of her sinking at her moorings as the oldest and first museum ship in the World. Good job done by the repair crews
We are!! Believe me! Thank you!
❤love BB35
Not just that...but the LAST DREADNOUGHT...
@@RuralTowner Mikasa
She has been partially restored, and is now a museum ship located at Mikasa Park in Yokosuka. Mikasa is the last remaining example of a pre-dreadnought battleship anywhere in the world and also the last example of a British-built battleship still existing
Good to hear. Last of it's own type too then.@@jamesnicholls1054
I cannot say it enough, but "Thank you, thank you, thank you", for taking the time to film this transformation. I'm sure it takes a lot of your personal time to drive there and film, but you certainly have done us UA-cam watchers a big favor. I appreciate your efforts.
Looking at her is what the Arizona would look like today bb 39
It's like seeing her when she's being upgraded in 1942-1943.
F
.
She has survived two World Wars, and years of neglect, yet she is still majestic.
What a beautiful old ship. If I'm ever in the USA I'll definitely pay the USS Texas a visit. From Newcastle Australia.
In dry dock she lies, the USS Texas bold,
A warrior of the seas, a story to be told.
Fresh paint adorns her mighty hull,
A tribute to strength, a testament full.
With a history deep, forged in battles past,
She sailed through storms, her anchor steadfast.
From the rough waves of the Atlantic's embrace,
To the Pacific's vastness, she carved her grace.
In the shipyard's cradle, she rests with pride,
A guardian on land, where the tides can't hide.
Her decks whisper tales of courage and might,
As the paint glistens, reflecting the light.
The Texas, a legend, weathered and strong,
Her legacy stretches, an epic tale long.
From World Wars to peacetime's gentle call,
She stood tall, never to falter, never to fall.
Oh, battleship proud, in the dry dock's care,
Your silhouette echoes the ocean's air.
A sentinel watching, with history to share,
The Texas, resplendent, in the shipyard's lair.
May the fresh paint glow, a beacon anew,
A symbol of honor, in red, white, and blue.
For the USS Texas, in dry dock she rests,
A guardian of freedom, her legacy best.
Let the waves of time roll on with grace,
As the Texas awaits, in her resting place.
For when duty calls, and the seas beckon wide,
She'll sail once again, with the tide by her side.
Beautiful
That is the best poem I've ever heard
She needs to be updated with 2024 weapontry .Why? Because she will be needed in the near future .
If the crew of the Texas were as good as the crew of the Nevada on D-Day Omaha Beach would have been a cake walk.
It’s amazing that this ship is over 100 years old now and looks back in fighting form !!!!!
Careful!!! the USN may want her back...
The aliens that invade Texas will be up for a surprise😂
My state has taken a lot of keyboard flak from all of the armchair restoration volunteers around the world because of the previously deteriorated condition of this battleship. I'm so happy the USS Texas is now getting the funding and attention that it deserves. Thanks as always for your videos, keep 'em coming!
Hi, do you think that maybe, just maybe, some of that keyboard flak helped the funding in place?
@@bobuk5722 Nope. Proud Texans did it(and out of state volunteers). With or without the useless bantering. All they had to do was ask and they did......
The thing about that was they earmarked $25M to drydock her permanently back in the late 2000s but the problem was they needed to replace the frames holding the mammoth original engines from the 1910s. If those frames weren't repaired then the engines would have smashed through the bottom of the hull, wrecking and sinking TX permanently. That ended up chewing up the $25M so they had to wait another 10 years and suffer with flooding and pumps to remove the water before they received more $$$. They now have received $60M from the TX taxpayers since 2019 for drydock which is impressive. I don't think any other state or NGO that owns the other 7 battleships have paid that much for a repair job like that. Texas actually has a chance to survive another 100 years thanks to this drydock.
She looks beautiful what a transformation can't wait to see her completely fitted out!
Looking at her is what the Arizona would look like today bb39
Thank you for sharing the journey of the USS Texas Battleship as it comes back to life. It is an amazing journey to watch the skilled craftsman breathing life back into her!
Great to see an iconic ship being preserved for future generations. Looking forward to seeing the next phase of her preservation.
Half of current generation* There, helped you out a bit.
And that's if lucky, sad to say a lick of paint and emergency structural repairs won't last nearly as long as a lot of people in these comments seem to think.
Well tore your right but the good news is her next dry dock will only be about 4 boats lengths away
Well tore your right but the good news is her next dry dock will only be about 4 boats lengths away
Cope. You are so butthurt that your favorite warship wasn't preserved so in order to make your worthless life feel better you talk trash about Texas, a legendary ship that will still be here long after you and your children will be gone from this earth 😊
She is one beautiful ship and looks so amazing thank you to everyone who restored her back to her glory days
Thanks for keeping us updated! You’re doing a better job than anyone I’ve found at documenting the changes along the way.
As a young boy going to school in Houston, I remember the many field trips my classes took to the Battleship Texas very fondly. I was amazed by the ship and tried to imagine what it felt like to serve aboard such a ship during wartime. Fast forward to 1986 when I joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Iowa (BB-61) near the end of the Cold War and then the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Being a Battleship Sailor is something I will forever cherish.
Man the Ol' Girl cleans up nice. Glad she finally got the TLC she so needed. Funnily enough, I didn't even realize she had the raised letters of her name until they got her into drydock.
My brother and I got to take one of the last drydock tours on Sunday before she underwent her Navy blue paint application on Monday! So privileged and honored to get to see her in all her glory!
When she was commissioned in 1914 Texas was probably the mightiest battleship in the world at that time -- she was the first BB with 14" guns. So glad that she was preserved!
My family got to see this in dry dock a few weeks ago when it was solid black. My goodness it looks so much better now. Excellent....
I'm very happy to see the U.S. Texas has been saved and restored. 😁👍 Looks fantastic. . . . a Vet. from Waco. 🇺🇲
Your drone footage and piloting skills are excellent. Thanks for all of the updates.
Thank you!
This old warrior looks beautiful.
Incredible. I have watched her history from being built to her service to her near demise. Its fantastic to see the effort put in to preserve such a ship. Of course i have family in Texas sonit makes it even more special
My Dad, Roy Archer served on the USS TEXAS during WW2.
She looks so much better than when I saw her in person a few years back, thank you for making these!
I really like the music you chose today. A bad-ass ship deserves seriously intimidating music. Texas wasn't a showboat, it was a war machine. Hey, Don't Mess With Texas.
The lady is starting to look great again. Thanks for taking the time to show those of us that can't get down there to see how well things are going.
I wasn't a Navy man, (Army), but I have a fascination with ships, especially battleships. Aye, she is a beautiful ship too. Texas should be proud to still have her. We in Arizona will always remember the battleships. ❤❤
Last time I saw a video they were just putting on the 3rd set of our hull on. She is looking great. Hats off to everybody involved in restoring this great piece of History.
The old girl is looking good! I'm glad to see such an important piece of history being preserved.
Not all ships get preserved. My ship was scrapped in Brownsville a few years ago. Glad there were enough people interested to save and restore the TEXAS
So awesome to see her getting the attention she needed so bad!!! Please don't let it get that bad ever again
YEA THE EARLY VIDEO SHE LOOKED LIKE A MESS. SHE IS COMING AROUND. GOONA LOOK LIKE A MODEL I USE TO MAKE AS A KID
It's all a matter of money. The repairs are all privately funded. Please be thankful for all the efforts that were done previously trying to keep her afloat. The price of just putting her in dry dock has got to be close to if not over a billion already. Not counting all the hazardous material clean up. Then you have the new steel that was brought in. And the specialty Marine Welding Contractors to hang it all. Im sure this project even with volunteer work is still nearing 1 billion if not far exceeding it.
@@demonknight7965 Privately funded because the government has better things to spend taxpayer money on, like billions to Israel and Ukraine.
This drydock is 100% funded by the Texas taxpayers. Texas is owned by the TX state govt. Without the TX govt owning her she would have been scrapped after only 20 years or so as a museum ship. Thank the TX taxpayers for this repair work.
Tears of joy, Heart pounding with pride to be a Texan and a sincere feeling of unbelievable happiness at her recovery! As a child in Baytown I made several trips to the old girl and even then there was a question of how long it would last………now I know!
A have faint memories of visiting the Texas back in 1968 as a young child during my family's travels. Now 55 years later, it is on my bucket list to visit again.
I was 5 in 1980 when we visited and have photos sitting in as gun seat
With your last name, you better!!
Thank you to all the many skilled workers that put life back in this ol girl. She looks absolutely gorgeous. Thank you.
She looks Beautiful freshly painted. My hat off to the people at the Shipyard! Well Done!
Love seeing important historical bits of kit or in this case a battle ship being restored and kept as a floating memorial to those who served!. Great job!. Nuff said. 🙂
I’ve been visiting this ship periodically since I was three years old in 1979. I can’t wait to see it again.
Can’t wait to be able to get down there again
Admiral Levine must be giddy with delight.
Makes you think back to the day the ship was commissioned. Is this what it looked like to the public? One hundred + years in the past she must of looked like a technological marvel.
Amazing, The difference a coat of paint makes to everything.
She looks glorious!
At least the USS Missouri was used in a fictional movie called “Battleship” and kicked aliens @$$! The sight of the Veteran Sailors, showing up, and the Lt, answering the old Chief’s question.. “What do you need, son?” “I need to borrow your boat..” Beautiful Scene!
Nice comment, Missouri a great state to visit, was just there last week (Branson). As you probably know, Texas by now is quite the movie star. She (or interior parts of her) have been in several Hollywood movies the last 30 years. Nothing looks as authentic on the silver screen, as the real thing - especially those 14" rifles!
We used to visit her in front of the SanJacinto Monument in the 50's and 60's.
Now she looks better than ever before.
My parents took me to see the Texas for the first time when I was about 6 years old (1973). I have taken my own wife and kids twice in the last 15 years. I can't wait to visit her again after he great restoration!!!
She's not the youngest lady at the ball, but she's definitely still able to turn some heads.
And safe to say, she's a lady who can speak with a loud voice, if needed.
Great !……can’t wait to see all the deck guns back in place too
And a fresh deck!!!
So good to see. Grew up going to this ship. Built models of it. Dreamed of a day were it was back to a glory I have never seen. This is the best the ship has ever looked in my lifetime
She fought in North Africa, Normandy, Southern France, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, and through it all only lost one crew member to enemy fire. In 1948, Battleship Texas was donated to the State of Texas to serve as a museum and memorial
She is absolutely beautiful. This important work is preserving history.
My family and I are so happy to see the care and pride these workers and those who chipped in the $ needed to restore the old lady. My Dad served on her in WWII up in the Comms. Shack. I know he was disappointed seeing her in her run down condition. He’d be proud as a peacock to see her now. God Bless all.
God bless our Mighty Battleship TEXAS❤
Never ever will I give up our Ships.🙂❤️
We toured this ship 10 years ago and it was in a sorry state then, still very interesting however with excellent displays inside, artifacts on dreadnought ship life, it was tough for those guys, this is awesome she’s a beauty!👍
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND TEXAS!!🇺🇸❤️👍🏻
As a Brit who’s nation invented the dreadnaught battleship I must say Texas is a credit to all that worked on her big 👍from🇬🇧
Thank you from GB, and yes I have heard that technically she is a "SuperDreadnought" by class, making her even rarer in the world than a dreadnought. Like the QE battleships of WWI, USS Texas certainly paid her way and keepby serving through two world wars. She started a reputation at Operation Torch in 1942, as something of a crack shot. Thus she was sent to all of the big Allied landings in WW2.
She’s lookin good!
Absolutely fantastic that there are people these days that put in the effort and money to make this happen !! Thank you SO much 👍
Thank the Texas taxpayers the most. They paid $25M to fix the frames that hold the giant engines 10 years ago and they are paying $60M for the current drydock repairs.
@@nogoodnameleft : This old sailor thanks them all from his heart.
Great progress - Thanks for keeping us updated and refreshed about the TEXAS's facelift. Awesome coverage and spectacular views.
The finest of the super Dreadnaughts
Was wondering if the below waterline was going to be red but I see the draft markings are already painted. Great to see an old Capital Ship coming back and she does 'clean up' nicely!
Indeed she does
no red, they're trying to reduce spending as much as possible
She looks great!! The state of Texas should be very proud of their namesake.
MY GOD! She looks beautiful. Like the day she was upgraded for combat to head off to Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Texas, just before it left for repairs, I look forward to touring it again afterwards!
My heart goes out to all the men and women working on the Texas. My grandfather served on board the USS West Virginia. During pearl Harbor there's No other Battle wagon around like her She's the only one of her kind And that's truly a shame it really is.
Cause Just like Texas, I feel like all the ships deserve their right to be here.
But at least we have one still around.
Beautiful war time blue.
Wow looks great! What a Snappy paint job! We visited her in 1993 at San Jacinto, Texas. Thanks for sharing - Happy New Year 2024!
Happy new year!
its so great to see her back in good shape once more, this makes me happy. now we need to get the boilers fired up and let her sail under her own power
Just beautiful. Taken a few cruises out of Galveston over the last 18 months and she looked rough as the repairs were underway. Job well done!
I think I see her Smiling.
This almost made me cry to see her in her former glory❤❤🫡🫡
I toured this as a young teen. I'm glad to see it is getting some upkeep.
Fantastic to see the progress. Thank you for sharing.
This ship served longer and harder then most. Nothing compares to USS Johnston and the Samuel B Roberts but the honor lives.
Its actually amazing that a fat guppy looking WW1 ship like USS Texas would gather so much support for restoration. The images here, and other associated videos on UA-cam etc, of the rust and rot that's been cut out of her........are nothing short of amazing. The rectification and patching up efforts must have been phenomenal after having a detailed look around and finding ticking time bombs everywhere.
The patchup and paint job here is clearly reflective of the pride shown by all who have contributed to delivering on a magnificent result. Hopefully it lasts for a very long time💪
The overall transformation.....is commendable to all who have made it so. Well done.
She is more accurate of how Arizona and Oklahoma and the other Pearl Harbor battleships looked than the other 7 battleship museums which are deceptively larger and if not for Texas everyone would think AZ and OK were the same size as the gigantic SD, NC, and IA class fast battleships that were commissioned in 1941-44.
She looks glorious, I can't wait to visit her again.
Great video! I noticed you refrain from flying over the ship & work areas. Very professional! I noticed this is not the case with other drone videos I've seen.
This is true, battleship Texas foundation and gulf copper have contacted me and asked me not to.
@@ThirdCoastDrone They should put you on the payroll. Your updates have been more consistent than the Battleship organization themselves.
@@kevinthomas895 I concure :). They actually don’t like me doing these videos
@@ThirdCoastDrone
I can't imagine why. Maybe it's because you're unintentionally making them look bad as a result, since you've been giving us more frequent updates than they have. In some ways, I can understand why they're having such trouble putting together updates for people (especially those who care about the restoration being done and have donated), since there's a lot of moving parts in drydocking a ship like Texas and it can be overwhelming. On the other hand, though, I think it's kind of silly that a third-party individual with a drone and some free time can put together more frequent updates than an organization with millions of dollars in donations. Surely, they could hire one person and get the same results that you have. It all seems a little too ridiculous, in my opinion.
@@CaseyCollier In fairness, I'd rather have the money going into taking care of the ship than having a little extra PR
Wow! What a transformation!
This is a wonderful thing. So much history here and one of the only if not the only ship to have survived two world wars and still be here today. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the restoration of this magnificent ship!!
Great job , well done to all who have worked on this great ship, 👍
She looks incredible.
I saw the Texas for the first time when I was four years old. That was in 1954 and it was closed on the day we were there. I have visited her several times since as an adult. I am so happy to see her being restored.
Soy de Chile, un seguidor del avance desde es primer día en el dique del Texas , está quedando hermoso, un barco de mucha historia, espero que pueda verlo algún día .
Gracias
Cuando puedas, envié más imágenes, gracias por compartir.
I visited many ports of Chile in 1993 while deployed on USS Whidbey Island LSD 41. Valparaiso, Coquimbo, Punta Arenas, Porta Mont and others.
Best i have seen her look in 60 years.
What a beautiful ship! Texas should be proud!...
Thank You For Sharing This Amazing Aerial Video ! I Truly Appreciate The Battleship Updates !!
It's going to be glorious to see her with all the guns freshly restored, everything painted and ready for the dance! I hope they adorn her with flags from stem to stern! I'll be there to see it.
Beautiful, simply beautiful
Love the progress they are making on the Battleship Texas. Thanks for all the videos.
Wow!!! Really happy to see this :)))
I gave tours and did firewatch for overnight scouts and other groups over the weekend back in the summer of 2006 between my semester break from college.
It's to this day an unforgettable experience I wouldn't trade for the world and I can't wait to come back and visit her!!
Thank you so much for the video- I'm sharing it with all my friends!
Glad to know that this ship didn't suffer the same fate as the USS Enterprise...salute to all Texans who sure know know how to value history.....
I am a formulation chemist and developed armor for the military some years ago.
I need to tour the Texas, as i`m fascinated with the armor around the belt line as well as the decks and turrets.
Almost no one ever discusses the armor technology and it would be fascinating to understand.
You should check out the USS New Jersey museum's youtube channel. They regularly do videos on various details of the New Jersey, including videos that discuss her armor. It won't be the same as USS Texas's armor, being several decades newer, but a lot of the concepts will be similar.
NJ and TX have nothing in common. It is like comparing a pre dreadnought with a dreadnought. Ryan is awesome though. NJ is very lucky to have him.
Some majestic views as always Wow, Thank you!
Thank you!
She's looking phenomenal
my god that ship is beautiful
She's looking great, thanks for the video.
Wow! The Texas is looking really good! Look forward to your updates! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this! This is just AWESOME! I agree with previous comments, that those of us with just a bit of salt in our blood, love to see these ol' gems being restored to their former glory.
She looks beautiful. Makes a Texan damn proud to see this ship looking great again. God Bless Texas!
Fantastic, she is a true Texas beauty. I can't wait until they open her up for tours again. Many thanks for all these informative videos.
Love that they are saving this valuable piece of history.
Pure history. Fantastic.Thank you.
