I just got into the Warhammer lore just 3 days ago, its probably one of the coolest universes ever created. I can see why its such a big deal now after all these years
I've never played the game but painted the miniatures now and again, and I've been a fan of 40k for about 25 years because it has one of the most detailed and interesting backgrounds of any IP I'm aware of. There's a ton of really great novels. (I'd recommend the Gaunt's Ghosts series as a good intro to the universe for anyone that's interested)
I'd recommend reading some of the novels (there's over 100 of them) to really get a feel for the lore, you'll find some incredible stories. Caiphus Cain is a great series, it's combination of humor, incredible detail, and dark storytelling makes for a hell of a good read. And if you haven't seen it yet, look up "Astartes" here on youtube, it's one of the best animated short stories in existence, let alone the 40K universe. People who don't like Warhammer like Astartes lol.
Caiphus Cain, Gaunt's Ghosts and especially the Eisenhorn trilogy of novels are pretty much the best onboarding books out there. Lutin09, Arch and Baldermort are some of the best youtube sources for the lore out there. It's good stuff.
That Mortal Combat joke made me burst out laughing. As much as I love 40k, the setting is a lot for newcomers. It's deep and engrossing, but wading into it is daunting. Darktide, from what I've seen, is doing a pretty good job of easing you in, and if you've ever played Left 4 Dead the game play feels very familiar.
Honestly, in a way, if you ended up IN the Warhammer 40k universe (or even Warhammer Fantasy), that's probably your first greeting. Like getting isekai'd (by a truck, i.e. roadkill = YOU) only to end up in 40k and get smacked with a small army shovel, instantly getting conscripted by an overt religious military empire (you join or die) and facing chaos mutants, xeno gene stealers, orks with guns (too much dakka, but never enough dakka), reality warping energy that'd make Event Horizon a breeze and just making the God Emperor mad.
I friggin love playing Ogryn in this game, you can feel how powerful are his hits in meele and punch of his ranged weapons. And that twitching when he sits in Valkyre, cause Ogryns have calustrophobia, and do not like to use transporters.
For average humans, the bolter in the game is a semi-automatic anti-tank rifle. For average SPACE MARINES, the bolter is an average pistol. It's basically the pistol that Titus used in the first sequence of the space marine game. Just goes to show how overly powerful the guns in 40k and big the space marines are, imagine the size of a bolt rifle.
I don't know if you're being literal but bolt pistols are not bolters they are bolt pistols. But yeah the human sized bolter would probably be around the same size as the marine sized bolt pistol.
Not quite. The marine Boltgun is a .75 rocket propelled mass reactive tip explosive round shooting beast that regular humans can’t wield. There are actual human size boltguns and bolt pistols too, but the marine ones are in a league of their own.
The Bolter in Darktide isn't the same pattern as those used by Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, it's designed to be held by human hands as the firepower of the Bolter can be needed anywhere.
This is a really good sum up of the game! Just a clarification for 7:20, Hive cities are not always abandoned/run by chaos, but rather they are ENORMOUS cities/factories the size of a continent.
They're basically Megacities from Judge Dredd except they expand underground just as far as they do into the sky. Millions, if not BILLIONS, in each one.

The respect for the lore in this game is all-in-all pretty impressive, the one gripe I have in that regard is there's probably around a 60% chance at the end of any mission that the evac would just leave if all that were left were some prisoner recruits, but that wouldn't be very fun.

Funnily enough, there IS actually a dynamic system for damage to bodies, including with chainswords! Noticed it in practice mode with the psyker, the blasts from the force staff actually dynamically deform the bodies of creatures, burning off the skin and the clothing and showing the bone and muscle underneath. Its crazy!
Just a reminder that he shit talked the game on Twitter and then deleted his tweet because people didn't think the same and said so. Funny he praises the game now.
You didn't realize how overpowered range meta was in VT2. Chainsword doesn't do fixed dismemberment because you can actually get headshot with it(!) and do more damage.
I don't know the exact voice he used, but the Psyker a stranger played as made a Caleb-esque laugh after killing a Mauler with the brain blast ability.
Eh. I like this game a lot, but the launch content is definitely lacking compared to VT2. Which is somewhat fair because VT2 piggybacked off the assets they made for 1. I believe VT2 had 3 classes for each character on launch. Their roadmap now is that they'll be releasing new classes every quarter.
What do you mean by this? like there is going to be content coming in the next 6-9 months? I know they said they planned on having quarterly content updates
@@Ghoulicus Post launch content should be dropping more frequently in the next few months after launch then quarterly updates kick in. It was posted on neogaf.
The game is dope. For me, the only essential feature missing is the ability to close the server to other parties. Most of the time I would gladly take a bot that knows how to stick together over a rando. Unless they know where the grims and scriptures are. But even then, the wanderers are the worst.
I am always surprised when warhammer goes into the mainstream, I always thought it was a niche topic for nerds like myself but it’s I always forget how popular it really is
Games workshop used to be REALLY protective of their IP to the point that they were hesitant to license it out for videogames. Supposedly, Warcraft and Starcraft were going to be based on warhammer fantasy and warhammer 40k respectively but GW pulled out of the agreement which led to Blizzard developing their own backgrounds, and the rest is history. Modern day GW is a lot more tech savvy and social media aware, and they know that videogames just bring awareness of their brand. Arguably they've been more loose than they should be because there's a lot of bad warhammer games but I think it's been great for their main business overall. They're a much bigger company than they used to be.
It's 60 in Australian dollars he means. In the uk It's here it's £35 but I could get for about £27 from a site I use. For console though I'm not a pc player. The series x version is coming later which probably means it has Performance problems that worse than pc.
0:25 Then become one. You don't need any Minis (Or you may require one, which you could probably get one for free at a craft store that sells them) and dive into the lore.
Despite all the launch day issues, I'll probably pick it up soon. Fatshark does right by the community. There's an insurance and trust in the future of the game we can count on. You can't say that about most companies these days.
This game is a little too woke for me. There's no scoreboard because they've infantilized the playerbase. Baby's can't handle having their scores shown on a screen in comparison to anyone else's. Nevermind that this is a M rated game.
Was let down that they didn't have one but I can see it getting pretty toxic with min/max culture and people obsessing over getting the most kills etc.
Boy, the only woke people here are the half-dead workers who just got an anger adrenaline boost from you calling the lack of a fucking scoreboard "woke".
I've heard people complain that it is more melee than gunplay. But it depends how you play. Take out elites from a distance or mow down hordes with your guns, I mix up the melee aspect and use my guns, and I enjoy it a lot.
I will say, compared to vermintide, each class feels pretty unique from the get go, having multiple mechanics tailoring to their role. whereas outside of the mage each class felt pretty much the same in vermintide till you got to endgame. It does suck how currencies dont transfer between classes so you dont have that faster buildup for having multiple characters you play liker vermintide had, but the game does feel better when you can swap between a couple of classes because each one has a different approach to combat, each class has ways to fulfill different roles so you have multiple playstyles and dont feel gimped even if you have repeat classes (thank god you can have them and not have your only high leveled class stolen from you). I'd say form what i played gunslinger was the most fun off the get go and stayed exciting with every new unlock, and psyker had the best payoff after leveling to around 11-13 when you unlock the staves and can start using magic to clear hordes. All in all i'd say its the best l4d style game since l4d itself came out. And I can't wait to sink another 100 hours into it. Press S to spit on back 4 blood.
The one thing I liked in B4B over this is having new gear dynamically generated as loot for each mission. That would be a very cool way to play this game. I guess I could hold out hope that they'll add it as a new mode eventually. Right now the progression is kinda meh with waiting for the shop to regenerate every hour... And you're wasting your crafting materials if you don't upgrade a weapon with a good "base rating."
20:20 what are you talking about ? This game is on an upgraded version of the Bitsquid/Stingray engine, the same used for Vermintide 2. Where did you get the information that Unreal was used ?
DLSS 3 is a game changer, I get an extra 90 FPS or so (3440 x 1440p) and the increase in input lag is imperceptible. I just wish the game was better optimized in general.
Gman, if you are interested in learning more about 40k start with any of these novels: xenos by Dan abnett (first part in the eisenhorn series) Horus rising by Dan abnett (first book in horus heresy series) For the emperor by sandy Mitchell (first of the ciaphas cain books, has humour where as the others are vastly more serious)
Gman you really ought to try out Deep Rock Galactic. It is argueably the most fun and consumer friendly Co-op shooter I have ever played! Rock and Stone!

I don't play the table top but I'm fascinated with the concept and those guys got me into it enough to make me want to paint some minis. Also as I don't comment much, while I'm here. Keep up the good work man!
ive noticed even now after release that some of the nvidea settings like dlss seem to cause a lot of crashes, if anyone is having issues with crashes try turning any settings with nvidea in the name off
40 bucks for skins that will sit on your harddrive 40 bucks for DLC classes that the previous game already came with, that will sit on your harddrive unless you pay for them That sucks and people should at least whine about it

Yeah, Bounty Hunter was pretty good at spamming ranged.
I don't know the exact voice he used, but the Psyker a stranger played as made a Caleb-esque laugh after killing a Mauler with the brain blast ability.
I was not expecting that clip of DSP
The Timesplitters 2 OST made me sit through a full sponsor without skipping through it. Personal kryptonite identified.
Their post launch content is looking exceptional with upwards of 6-9 months worth of new content coming over the next 12 months alone.
The bolter is so good. When firing it full auto at a bunch of scabs the low levels actually cower in place from the sound of it firing.
The game is dope. For me, the only essential feature missing is the ability to close the server to other parties. Most of the time I would gladly take a bot that knows how to stick together over a rando. Unless they know where the grims and scriptures are. But even then, the wanderers are the worst.
Jesper kyd is one of my favourites. Ever since i was a kid playing the adventures of batman and robin on the sega genesis.

“Brother, get the flamer. The HEAVY flamer.”
Don’t worry about playing it before it fully came out
The release version is even worse
Subtle Time Splitters 2 track during the sponsor section, nice. 😎
This sponsored segment has the best soundtrack I think I've heard to date.
I still have my original PS2 copy of that game.
So. Why were you in prison then?
"Blood for the Emperor! Skulls for the Golden throne!"
...
I see.
Preacher is the new Witch Hunter from Vermintide.
"Not bad... FOR A WITCH."
Was about to skip through the ad, but I was suckered in with that TimeSplitters music. Well played, Gman.
Appreciate the TS2/FP soundtrack with your Bespoke Post ad, bud.
Normally don’t sit through ads, but the Timesplitters music had me sticking around.
Just wanna say the Timesplitters music during the sponsor ad wasn't unappreciated
FYI, Darktide is only $40 not $60. I think the one at, or close, to $60 is the "special edition" with skins, soundtrack, etc.
It's 60 in Australian dollars he means. In the uk It's here it's £35 but I could get for about £27 from a site I use. For console though I'm not a pc player. The series x version is coming later which probably means it has Performance problems that worse than pc.
Did you know that currencies other than USD exist?
@@GameTimeWhy I didn't think they allowed Australians access to money
Number #1 thing i noticed was the Timesplitters 2 Menu Music during the Sponser Bespoke Post
5:36 Just got into Warhammer two years ago, accurate.
"As a full group" one guy is waiting to be rescued
Christmas season starts after Halloween in Murica Land
In January 2021, Tencent acquired majority control of Fatshark
Im good lol
Timesplitters music for the sponsor is dope
"Blood for the Emperor! Skulls for the Golden Throne!"
I think your zealot is a heretic, my dude.
Showing the King of the Internet, Hugh Mungus during that joke was amazing.
Zealot arguing with the subtitles is peak comedy relief.
Reminds me old The Onion-like parody interview in the middle east.
What a strange thing to be upset about LMAO
Was let down that they didn't have one but I can see it getting pretty toxic with min/max culture and people obsessing over getting the most kills etc.
@@coldcrush5921 I guess the only thing too edgy for the Warhammer 40k universe is a scoreboard.
Boy, the only woke people here are the half-dead workers who just got an anger adrenaline boost from you calling the lack of a fucking scoreboard "woke".
The toughness is like the morale meter in the dawn of war games :) a unit is fucked when their moral runs out.
I've heard people complain that it is more melee than gunplay. But it depends how you play. Take out elites from a distance or mow down hordes with your guns, I mix up the melee aspect and use my guns, and I enjoy it a lot.
The most surprising aspect of this game is getting pardoned by the imperium.
He just talking shit.
5:26 is dangerously accurate
It just needs more content which are classes, weapons, maps and game modifiers. Oh and they still have not added the full crafting system...
this game isn’t finished though. I’d wait a year for it to be actually done, don’t burn out on it now
The game having the balls to have actually dark maps when that variable rolls is nice. Most games wuss out.
It helps that many of the ranged weapons have flashlights. Doesn't help that most of them are the crappier weapons like lasguns and assault rifles.
Warhammer 40k is the best setting for fps games and more should be made
Never use the phrase "scratched the tip of the iceberg" again.
Good choice of music on the ad read 😁. I miss timesplitters 2
Protip: turn the brightness down a couple notches until the images are visible as instructed. The atmosphere is WAY more intense.
Hi gman, yours is one of the few channels I actually follow. Keep up with the good stuff, greetings from italy 👋🏻
What on earth is that first clip from?
DLSS 3 is a game changer, I get an extra 90 FPS or so (3440 x 1440p) and the increase in input lag is imperceptible. I just wish the game was better optimized in general.
BRUH hitting us with that time splitter's 2 music.
Gman, if you are interested in learning more about 40k start with any of these novels: xenos by Dan abnett (first part in the eisenhorn series)
Horus rising by Dan abnett (first book in horus heresy series)
For the emperor by sandy Mitchell (first of the ciaphas cain books, has humour where as the others are vastly more serious)
played 69 hours and still want more, do your self a favor and pick this one up
Gman you really ought to try out Deep Rock Galactic. It is argueably the most fun and consumer friendly Co-op shooter I have ever played!
Rock and Stone!
Lol I actually didn’t skip the ad this time because of the Time Splitters music- well played, sir.
I hope to the God Emperor this game turns out to be a timed exclusive so I can play on my PS 🙏
And Gman if you want to get into the 40K lore I wholeheartedly recommend the Adeptus Ridiculous podcast if it hasn't been recommended to you already. The guys there don't take it super serious and praise the crazy shit in 40K and have fun with the lore. I don't play the table top but I'm fascinated with the concept and those guys got me into it enough to make me want to paint some minis.
Also as I don't comment much, while I'm here. Keep up the good work man!
Gman: "I've only been playing for 20 hours, i cant call it a review"
IGN: "Just play it for 15 minutes and write a review about it or some sht"
I think developers mentioned they well redo the scoreboard with details and such. I cant wait.
Good news is the launch version of the game runs way better , and I haven’t crashed once
ERROR CODE 2007: Disconnected from Server. Such a great game
Man I wish this came to PlayStation. Would’ve loved it. At least we have Space Marine 2.
That jab at Ragnarok.
ive noticed even now after release that some of the nvidea settings like dlss seem to cause a lot of crashes, if anyone is having issues with crashes try turning any settings with nvidea in the name off
40 bucks for skins that will sit on your harddrive
40 bucks for DLC classes that the previous game already came with, that will sit on your harddrive unless you pay for them
That sucks and people should at least whine about it
As an Vermintide player it's finto meet and hear the VAs from Vermintide in Darktide, poor Lohner got turned into servitor XD
bruh 😂😂😂 ruthless as hell with the mom jokes

oh its not the veggies, they're just naturally this big, veggies would only make them bigger
Thing that annoys me is the chip damage. Toughness is supposed to block all damage, but it doesn't. Not a bug, despite tutorials saying it blocks all damage.
I know right? I've been beat to death at 75% toughness due to sheer number of bastards
It's not UE4, it's still Stingray (an offspring of the Payday2 Diesel Engine)
