Riding the Chief was one of my true American Experiences. I rode it in the early 1990's and will never forget it. Great song! I just heard on SDPR "On Record" show.
Only those of us who rode trains as a child can really appreciate this beautiful song. I remember at 5 or 6 years old riding the train from Greensboro, NC to Frostproof, FL with Mom to visit my grandparents in Frostproof, FL. I remember the clickity clack as our car passed over the rails. Sadly, that sound is not gone because the welds on the track sections are no longer made by hand. Beautiful son, Chis and the Night Drivers! We need more songs about trains and steam engines!
I smile every time I hear this song on Sirius XM Blue Grass Junction. Can't hear it often enough. Just love all the music I hear from this group. So glad I get to listen to Truegrass and find out so much about the roots of my music.
