To think Disneyland operated for sixty plus years without park reservations but now reservations are "essential" to operations. I would consider purchasing five new keys if reservations were done away with.
Reservations are here to stay. Unfortunately this is not1985 with no reservations and AP ran a muck! They now can staff better and order food better knowing how many guests will be at the park.
Turnover hurt Disney a lot. People who were older truly loved that park worked there because of that Disney pride and love. Not sure the younger new hires get that.
You are so right about the cast members. When we were there in February you could tell who was new. They seemed to know how to run the rides but but not with the same Disney magic. The problem is that the older cast members who have been there for awhile grew up in a time where you could buy a house for cheap and survive on a lower wage. They really need to pay the cast members more to retain people .
The Matterhorn already has a movie. Third Man on The Mountain was made in 1958 and released a year later. Disney was filming in Switzerland when Walt sent back pictures of the mountain and told WED to build one for him.

Smart statement from Mr. Potrock ---it's more about the 'park math', creating 'breathing' space with park projects and internal department structures (the 'Imagineering' department has been 'pulled' apart---it's gonna take time to re-establish 'firm' footing) AND ToonTown >> all comes 'together' in another 'year'.
I like the updates to Matterhorn, but I liked the old toboggans better. They were nice when you had children who were nervous about the ride, you could have them sit right in front of you.
Quote of the month from David, "Chapek is trying to finesse the system to squeeze every penny of revenue out of everything that they forgot how to be good at their jobs"
People who complain that there's not enough "representation" in the parks must have grew up in an era where they didn't see Eisner's hip hop beat box Splash Mt commercials or before that, the World Showcase parades with every nation from Mexico to Greece dancing down Main Street. They're not seeing representation because they've chosen to remain blind to it. Some have made it impossible for representation to be 'perfected' and the company doesn't want to get into hot water by making mistakes. On a further note, they don't see themselves represented because they don't think of themselves as American. Disneyland epitomizes the quintessential American experience.
For the last couple of months I've been listening to the podcast on Spotify, so when I turned it on and saw Ron's background, I thought he was doing the podcast from the park for a second.
Just returned from Magic Kingdom. Although my favorite is Disneyland, I did find some favorable things at MK. The Pirates queue was one of those things. I think that I could design a similar lower level covered queue at ground level. Traffic could still flow into Adventureland to the side of this open air breezeway queue building or on top of the building, where there could be a garden and wide passageway. Think of the top level as just a wider bridge than what existed. Think of underneath as the queue with pirate cave motif.

It's true that Bob Chapek isn't personally nit-picking menu items and micro-managing details, but he sets the tone for the entire Disney organization, and since he has prioritized profit over people, that's what trickles down into the evoryday decisions by resort presidents, managers, and cast members.
Could be a set up spin job. Right now no toontown, no pirates, no treehouse, no Nemo, no shows, no parade, no top two magic keys. One year from now all that will be back, look how much we have done and we are fully back.
Referencing when you mention cast members around the 23 min mark, you both commented on how the Disney company would be better off paying more to get castmembers to stay longer. Though I'm sure that would help some cast members stay longer, I don't think overall the metric is better for them because they're in an industry that will naturally have a high turnover. It's sorta like fast food, a lot of people, perhaps a decent majority, are only taking the job temporarily. They know this, they've decided this, it's a college or post-college temporary gig. No matter how you slice it, a large percentage will always be a cycle of this, and raising the pay (depending on how high) will likely have a minimal impact. Secondly, if we believe that Unions are in the best interest of employees, and they help in getting them top dollar for their labor... then I believe the recent contract is a result of the Union squeezing out the maximum possible for the value of the labor. A lot of the positions like attractions, foods, outdoor vending, and custodial, require mostly entry level experience. Most of the tasks are assembly-line style, requiring minimal expertise. I'm not knocking on castmembers, I used to be one for 5 years while I was in college, I'm just saying the wages should be considered fair since the CM have a union and everyone agreed to them. Wasn't long ago Bernie Sanders was along side the unions asking for $15 per hour, now many positions are at $17.
I think they mean they're only about halfway of the pre-pandemic crowds. They're completely aggravated that the crowds have not returned and that is totally self inflicted because of the ridiculous reservation system. They are keeping passholders out and they really believed passholders would cough up even more money for one day tickets. That backfired spectacularly. Very few willing to do that.

Exactly. The accurate quote was “We’ve embarked on this legendary comeback,” Potrock said. “We’re more than halfway through it, but we’ve got another year.”
I had mentioned weeks ago and last year that Disneyland and Disneyworld are being managed by Artificial intelligence now, as is practically every facet of our new society...and there is no way to run a test simulation on that magnitude before roll out. Half way through is probably a very loose definition. As with Artificial intelligence it never actually stops learning and adjusting. It's probably going to take a couple years to get enough data points to then begin It's mission (manage the park). Having the reservations (as miserable as they might be for guests) is an integral part of how the AI processes its data. It literally couldn't function properly without knowing how many guests are in the park or on property and who's coming next week and the week after that etc as well as the age demographics of the guests. We still have a severe worker/staffing shortage nationwide. Especially with educated/skilled workers. It's not enough to have 500 general laborers, you have to also have dozens of educated mature managers, trainers etc. Lastly, machine learning and AI are two different animals. While Machine learning could be one washing machine, Artificial intelligence would be the factory. Machine learning only learns how to be efficient for one single task that was programmed into it by a human. Machine learning could be used to operate just the elevators on Mission Breakout. Artificial intelligence, doesn't need the human to begin with, and crunches the numbers for efficiency on the entire corporation: The parks, hotels, security, staffing, procurement, guest experience, ride operations, maintenance, all of it...and then integrate the data. Right now it's just learning what it's going to manage. Not only does it monitor inventory, but can crunch the market as well in relation to its own needs. National/global inventory, supply chain, and delivery of product. 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Disney Corporation. That will be shareholder year. I'm willing to bet that's the year the shareholders come not to visit Disneyland persay, but to see their new AI robot being implemented in a real world simulation in action. Along with those shareholders will be scientists and physicists also taking notes.
The reservation system is not going anywhere. Look at the crowds. The reservation system is not having any effect on crowds except to control the capacity. Which is a good thing.
Disney needs to get rid of the terrible no good very bad horrible fun sucking disaster of an idea called the reservation system and just burn it down. Re-introduce the old annual pass system (with adjusted prices to make it a little more fair for Disney) and open the flood gates again. A fully staffed park can handle 80,000 people a day.
Those days are over. If anything, get rid of any form of AP and just go daily ticket sales. Maybe sell a California 2-3 day pass. The crowds would be a disaster with your idea. The AP is an outdated system and should be shelved for good.
Not to mention they haven’t even started work on the re-theme and he chose it as #1. My eyes rolled into the back of my head. Lost some respect for him.
Ron gets it - the reservation system that is, and i love watching dave squirm as he screams on the inside as ron speaks the truth. If u want to go everyday with no reservation (ie we assume u are in park everyday), be prepared to pay through your nose to do it.
Good by “magic key and AP”! Disney can make so much more money with daily ticket sales vs any form of AP. To think they went as long as they have with AP’s and now these magic keys. They are out dated. If I owned a “premium” anything, why would I charge customers like they’re coming to an “all you can eat buffet” for one price? When I can make more money on daily tickets? Once Disneyland expands with “Disney Forward” it will become a destination resort and not a “locals park” as many believe it is. The company is out to make as much money as possible. Shareholders/stockholders will make sure of that.
What if… 3rd “Frozen” movie ref a yeti! Reskin the mountain with Frozen keep yeti!… empty Innoventions area… Marvel to DCA keep all Starwars in edge!… Innoventions then Used and reskin for round house of future movie trailers and theme’s! Does the house of tomorrow have Disney +?
Crowds are not a problem with people who live close by and can drop in whenever, but they are a HUGE PROBLEM for people who for 1 reason or another can only go once a year/once every couple of years/etc... And reservations can keep the crowd levels down if properly managed. Disneyland should get rid of reservations for now. They should make an announcement that they are reevaluating reservations and say that they will tell us 3 months in advance before reinstating reservations. Then they need to do some annalitics starting 1/1/2023 and ending 12/31/23. Disneyland should set a goal of limiting crowd levels to a specific % of maximum capacity, for example maybe 75%. Then calculate the average number of MK holders that visit each day. Then calculate the average % of guests that are MK holders. Now let's say, (I know this is not accurate numbers but these numbers are just an example and set up for easy math), that they decide to limit guests to 75% of capacity and that 75% of capacity is 100,000. And let's say that on average 60% of guests are MK holders. 60% of 100,000 = 60,000. So if Disney wants to keep the crowd level at 100,000 then they should only allow 60,000 MK reservations per day and 40,000 non-MK reservations per day. Then Disneyland needs to announce these numbers and post these numbers front and center on their website. If the % of MK guests fluctuates significantly by season or day of the week or whatever they can fluctuate the number of reservations by season or day of the week or whatever. And everytime a guest wants a reservation but none are available there should be a wait list option and a feedback option. This way as people cancel a reservation the next person or group on the wait list should be sent an email/text/whatever that guest wants for a notification and they have 48 hours to grab the now available reservation(s) before a notification is sent to the next person or group on the wait list. And Disneyland needs to enforce the penalty for missing 3 reservations in a 1 month period. They need to allow cancelations up to 24 hours before opening and have an appeal system for people who were penalized and whom couldn't cancel due to an unforseen emergency. The feedback system needs to be monitored daily so changes to the system can be considered and disappointed guests can get a personal and quick response to their feedback. Disneyland also needs to track the same annalitics yearly to make yearly adjustments to the reservation numbers. And if an individual is booking a reservation for multiple people and there are only a small number of reservations left there should be a small allowance, (maybe 4 people/group), so that when there are only 10%, (or maybe 15%, or maybe 5%), of the total reservations left those last few people can make a reservation for the whole family up to a specific maximum, (maybe 4). This way, some days, the park may get to 80% or 90% instead of the 75% goal, but still not 100% of capacity. Obviously these numbers are just examples, but a similar system and with full transparency to the guests, would I think work for most people and work well for Disney.
Not gonna happen. Reservations are for staffing and knowing how much food to order each day. It enables the park to control capacity. The reservation system is not going anywhere anytime soon.
They need to go back to Walt’s dream ! They’ve lost their creative soul and producing a quality product. This company is just a woke corporation and you might as well go to Universal.

Agree 200%, .if you go back and watch Walt's videos and listen to what this dream was intended to be you will realize it's turned into his nightmare! They might as well and remove the plaque on main street and put To all all come to this place PAY UP.
I am more worried that they think that they are at the 50% mark of getting Genie plus to work. They are under the delusion that it is a good thing and that they can fix it.
BOYCOTT DISNEY!
For every 1 person who “boycotts” Disney, there are a thousand who will gladly take their place in the park.
@@davidhalcon5594 - Just like the only guy who stood for the Trans movement at Downtown Disney. 😂
@@appleforever6664 not sure who your talking about, but I sure as hell don’t back the “trans” anything. Live and let live, but don’t push that crap on me, and keep it out of the park! Disneyland should not be a place where agendas like that are pushed.
@@davidhalcon5594 - Disney became WOKE. They have no business in politics.
i think you got the story wrong on matterhorn... the story would be simple - "Encanto on a snowy mountain"...
