I'm not sure where I stand on the ending of this video. It seems as if the video's answer to the important "Where can RCSI get it wrong that Read Committed would not?" question is "only in places where you were wrong to use Read Committed in the first place". It might even be the correct answer and it's one that I'll try giving, but it comes from such a pro-RCSI position that I fear that anyone giving it will be thought of as a zealot unless they have some extremely strong evidence. Looking forward to more of this series! I'm going to blindly guess that the next video is on the costs of enabling RCSI.
No, the costs are fairly well known and generally manageable. The cost of MVCC in Postgres is far worse, since rows are versioned locally in the table. Anyway, the longer you work with Read Committed, the more you become a a fan of RCSI. Give it time.
When I want to explain something to devs I usually use Erik’s videos. This for sure will be a very compelling one.
