How to flush your Yamaha outboard correctly!

- Properly maintaining your Yamaha outboard motor is essential for long-lasting performance on the water!
In this video Aaron goes more in-depth on how to flush a Yamaha motor using the cold flush! The USA and the majority of the places globally use this type of fitting. Australia does not and as such us Aussies have to use an adapter. They're $4.5-$6. The cold flush fitting back fills the water gallery's throughout the head, so it gets both sides of the thermostat and then goes down with gravity through the impeller. An impeller pulls water up from the bottom when turned on, as such, whilst on cold flush do not turn the motor on as it will starve the impeller of water. It's called a cold flush for a reason! Simply attach the adapter to the flushing port, connect a garden hose, and turn on the water while the engine is off. This process helps remove salt, sand, and other debris from the water jacket, ensuring a clean and healthy motor. Give your motor the TLC it deserves and enjoy smooth motoring for years to come!

Couldn't be clearer. Love your emails. If you open a branch in the UK I'll be your first customer
Should be on ALL outboards. Make it an industry standard.
All yamaha do
Just buy yamaha and you’ll never have a problem ever
Lol funny you say that cause my mercury has that except I don’t need a adapter just threads right on to the hose
@@johnschmidt659 I have a Merc also with the hose thread port. But it doesn't flush the lower unit to my knowledge. If we're talking about the same thing. I still have to use the ear muffs to flush the motor while it's running.
But, will the water make it up into the T-Stats?
@@BrisbaneYamaha yamaha is deff. The best.
I actually flush my Yammie with the flush port and the muffs. Never had an issue with the pressure using the muffs according to the pressure gauge on the dash. Town water pressure here can hit 90-100psi though.
I was told that flush port is only good if the motor is still hot, otherwise you should use the muffs to open and flush the thermostat.
Ideally you would alway flush your motor while still hot
But yamaha want you to just use fresh water flush
Ideally you would alway flush your motor while still hot
But yamaha want you to just use fresh water flush hot or cold
Agree - lots of boat mechanics say not to use the flush port because of the thermostat is closed, the head doesn’t get a flush!!! Use muffs!!
Someone told me that there can be a thermal shock if you flush immediately after use. I think its bs. But everyone tells me something else 🤷
@@th3smurf692i would say it does, you dont put cold water in your car radiator when its hot so your OB is no different!
Just bought me a little 9.9 Yamaha. Best motor I think I’ll ever have🤷🏻♂️
I agree
Yamaha is by far the best
And I’d know because I’ve sold every brand and I give warranty
Yamaha every day
I dunno on the outboards but in the jetboats the engine HAS to be on prior to starting the water or you run the risk of flooding it
Brisbane Yamaha. Thank you. Learned and recently applying this the way you explained with the hose and fitying. Happy to hear it from you. One question though: I have to do this in the marina tied to the dock. That is, boat is on the water. Motor tail comes out of the water with full up trim. Should I flush with trim up or keep tail in water for most effective operation.
My motor is a F130AETL.
Either way same
I just love getting back at my neighbors after they have partys every weekend last year😂🎉
I think my neighbours hate me too
Can you run the engine while its connected that way?
No
No
No
Probably won’t wreck outboards but you shouldn’t
Il wil not do that! Impeller can burn.
I have had a engine that the valve inside did not shut after flush and water flow bypassed presure out the side leak
Good info. How about adding some salt away into the supply towards the end?
No salt away never
Yamaha don’t need any additives
Beautiful
Your beautiful
This guy is great
Free tee shirt waiting for you
Is this on a 2007 yamaha 150 outboard also or is that motor too old??
Yes it’s not new Yamaha saltwater two strokes had it in 80 s
My mercury manual says 45psi max. I used a water hose and blew a seal . Mercury told me it's because the psi is too high. So they recommended I use the ear muffs
Well the old black anchor strikes again can’t handle hose pressure, please
Just bought a new small boat with a Yamaha F40. The manual still talks about using the rabbit ears. Or flushing in a test tank. Is the garden hose connector equally as effective? I’ll be running mainly in saltwater and want to make this beauty last as long as possible.
Yes you don’t need anything else
Light spray of yamaha silicon
Derive once a year and that little beauty will last forever
Do I have to keep the outboard stand straight or I can leave it tilted while flushing ? I got my boat sitting on the Seapen.. thank you
Doesn’t matter
I have a 2013 Yamaha F150. Same deal for me? Will this work and flush the entire engine properly even if it is not warm?
Yes
Perfectly
Great video thanks for explaining. Quick question, when I flush my 2023 90hp Yamaha this way I get no water out of the tell tale. Tell tale pees like an 18 year old after 4 pints when its running though. Is this normal? Cheers!
(I mean when its running like out on the water, I'm not running it while using the flush attachment)
Are you sure because there should be
If your in qld call the team 38881727
did you end up figuring this out? i get nothing from the tell tail either. 130hp 2023.
@@mr.annoying9453 yep it’s water pressure from the hose. Has to be pretty high to get it to come out. Make sure all hose fittings aren’t leaking etc.
@@ericsharp6876 thanks man
Can you flush straight away or do you have to wait till motor cools down?
Straight away is fine
I have a new F150. Should the water flow out the pilot hose when flushing this way?
Yes
Why dose it take longer to have the water come out the tell tail then the bottom it comes out but take a bit
Water pressure
Water needs to do thought engine before it gets to bottom half
Sound like my 115 is breathing heavily when at idle any idear why I don't here it when moving
We call them ear muffs. Not sure I ever heard rabbit ears since tv’s lost their antennas. Yes I know you’re Ausi.
Maybe I made the name up
I never thought about it
You should move the family to Australia it’s the land of real opportunity
True USA in the 20s
so 2.5yrs ago i bought my first motor yamaha 200. My repair guys say the muffs are good but this video is how i flush my motor… i tried the muffs and didn’t like em
Follow your repair guy or yamaha
Up to you
My evinrude etec has one
Yes every motor brand will have one day
Is it meant to pee out the top hole as well ?
Yes

I don't know what the best way is some people say run and flush others say like this. I love this guy but I'm about to buy my first boat with a Yamaha 60 I hope I can get the correct information on the other hand it Yamaha wouldn't have put it there if I didn't work properly I will always trust Japanese engineering
Why would I lie
Why wouldn’t I know this
Why won’t you believe yamaha
It’s not hard
@@BrisbaneYamaha yea mate I do that's what I'm saying and I never said you lied
All I was saying is I hope I can work it out before I buy my own boat and yes Yamaha would be the only motor I would trust

Yeah ok. Not so angry though
Sorry visit brisbane yamaha and get a free tee shirt
Suzuki has always had this feature.

But yes now
As all outboard will/ do
Difference is o my yamaha are designed from ground up as an outboard

Yamaha sounds like a problem if you have to do that.

I thought this method does not allow the thermostat to open so you only flush half way.
No flushers both sides and most yamaha thermostats gave a hole in them to allow water through

Same here man, I would use this method when I get home at like 2am and don't want to start the motor that late. The next day I always still hook the ears up to make sure I can get all that salt out.
Lol- wonder what he hit when he chucked the earmuffs.

Do both can’t hurt
I add a little bit of dawn dish soap then the hose.
I hope the Yamaha people see this guy and sponsor him.👍
Did you see his shirt by any chance
Sure seems like it would help keep the water jackets clean from salt water !
Yamaha designed it so it’s perfect
Well I could buy about 5 of my outboards for the price of a new one
We still use rabbit ears !!!
It’s your motor
Whats an American fitting? Lol😂
Not metric
You could have a ham and pickle sandwich while you flush the motor.
Good idea
My uncle had cheese and pickle every single day for 40 years up to the day he had a heart attack changing a truck tyre
I actually bought my F70 yamaha because of "Boats Boats Brisbane!" and their walk around of that motor
Free tee shirt for you
The Mercury motors don’t require an adapter; garden hose screws right on.
Sell the Merc while it’s still going and buy a Yamaha
Don’t say you weren’t warned
I worry about this daily🤫
I can’t believe it’s so hard
But every Suzuki before 2010 has corrosion issues and they call Mercury aspirins for a reason
Nice. Should be made mandatory for all manufacturers.
Would but other brand outboards are just a car engine tweaked yamaha are designed from scratch to be an outboard that’s why there the most reliable and biggest seller in world
Just a fact
Sounds like chopper works for Yamaha now
We know where you live
Lol
good ole Yamaha!!! 💪👏👏👏
Rabbit ears? We call them earmuffs. 😅
I think they’re shit always get wet legs
They can slip off you can forget to take off and then chew them up in prop
I can’t believe so many people still use them
Personally a big bucket deep enough to cover water pump is best but if you have a yamaha with fresh water flush just use it can understand why people think yamaha would make something that didn’t work or not understand their own product ?
I trust earMuffs mutsh more.
He can sponser me that one
It flushes like crap though!
Yes always have been if water pressure is an issue
Are you serious im moving back to Solomon Islands soon im only going to use yamaha
No other deans last in the islands it’s quick and easy

Can you do it this way using salt away flush?
Yes but your wasting your money
I thought everyone uses salt away if yiure ru nong in salt water ?.
Wifes family are very knowledgeable on motors and when we started looking at boats, they said "Do Not Buy Anything But a Yamaha".....so thats what we did. Another family member bought a Honda...locked it up, luckily under warranty.

How to not wreck your motor. I'd love to have a freshwater flush. 2 strokes don't have them.
Yamaha 115, 130 and 150hp 2 strokes did
My bosses older 200 hpdi had this system
Maybe it's the 9.9-90s that didn't have them
I really disagree. Yes you can flush the engine fine. However it is lacking on the lower unit. It’s always better to use a good set of flushing ears. Glad to see you threw away those cheap set
If you know more than Yamaha technicians go for it
It’s your outboard
It doesn’t flush the thermostat so no it bill crap the only way it will get past the thermostat is if the motor is running so if Yamaha told you the freaking sky was pink and not blue does that mean you have to believe it of course they want you to do what they want that way when it feels and have to life for the motor you have to buy another one they don’t want it to be fully taken care of because I didn’t want it give them profits run your motor and flush it out correctly
Your an idiot
Why would yamaha tell you to use a product and it not work
It’s your outboard do as you like but yamaha is the world leader in outboard with a reputation and company ethos for reliability!!!!!
But you know more ?????
I agree 101%
Money make people Funny.😂
How can you call him an Idiot?😅
Then all the powerboat peoples are Idoits at the wheel flying there boats over the water.
Fresh water everywhere is mutch better flowing true around all places.
Salt is a Eater if it gets place and time.

But we dont Buy outboards not to hear what we are Paying for.

There is bypass holes in the thermostats to get into the cooling passages when you use the flush port
I have a 2011 F115. Wondering if when I flush while boat is in the water, should the motor be tilted clear of the water or fully down? Thanks.
Doesn’t matter either way
Does this bypass the thermostat and flush the whole block? Or do you need to run the motor until the thermostat opens?
Do not run motor it will flush both sides yamaha has designed it to work as you would expect
What if the thermostat is closed? It's not really flushing the whole motor
Wrong
There a hole in thermostat
It’s Yamaha it works
What year did yamaha start puttng these fittings on 4 stroke 115 outboards
We had them on our 2 strokes so always
That’l teach ya !
water pressure not enough to pump up? so yamaha s don't have water pump!
No garden hose pressure isn’t enough to push water to impeller
This method is used to clear the engine of any salt water right and no other reason?
Correct
My Yamaha 130 Saltwater series has this flush port. I've been using the muffs to flush it so far. I''m curious now as to giving it a shot after running the motor in saltwater.
Just checked the owners manual, and yep, should be good to go.
Just do it
I sold thousands and thousands of 130s saltwaters
Great motor last forever
@@BrisbaneYamahaThat's great to hear. It absolutely hammers, plenty of power. The only draw-back is sometimes it can be hard to restart when warm, but otherwise, I keep it well-serviced and it's looked after me well.
Yamaha lasts forever but shirts don’t. You out grow those😂
Gone up 2 sizes
And still tight
I dont trust that flush on side!
Salt build up on waterpump impeller after side flush.
How do I know!
I stripped te gearbox off and opened the pump housing and have a Looksee salt crystels after 1 week.
Yamaha should hire you and sack all their engineers
Think about it
@@BrisbaneYamaha Good advice.
But you cant say that Pipie on side is the best.
Flush from the side pipie or from the vanes on Gearbox both good 50/50. Solang owner flush there outboards less work for us.
If they dont flush the is Money to be made.
i hot flush, with motor running, with ear muffs on, then cold flush with the hose outlet, This is what yamaha told me to do when i called their warranty department, so pretty sure this guy is bs. also would open cowling latches every time i flush, to keep those from seizing as well.
Your an idiot
I’ve been biggest yamaha dealer in Australia for 15 years and you think you know more
I give 6 year’s warranty on Yamahas sold and serviced by brisbane yamaha that’s 2 years longer than yamaha
Do what you want with your outboard and I’ve go no issues with ear muffs if used properly or even better a big bucket but why would I BS ?
Just use the fresh water flush if your motor has one and you’ll never have an issue
@@BrisbaneYamaha hehehehe....
that flushing method applies to what years on ?
If outboard has a fitting started on saltwater models in the 90 s
So ur saying this flushing method is better than cups u saying we don’t need to worry about saltwater buildup in the impeller ? I think if it is going to sit a few months like winter time rest u might flush with cups to get that salt out. I ran a Yamaha 20 years used both. Used cups 20 years. Motor is still running great. Just bought new sho 150 to replace it but I did cups 20 years. No problems. Just askin
No argument if used correctly perfect
Two points
Lots of people don’t use cups correctly and that’s why alternative was invented
Boats left in water it’s hard to use cups
Don’t you think it’s eazier just plugging hose in
@@BrisbaneYamaha
Yes but the impeller isn’t turning your not cleaning the impeller and all that down in lower unit what little does get cleaned out. Yea it’s always in water course use the hose fitting.
Yes
Lack of water pressure and improper fitting of cup was the issue Yamaha wanted to fix
Every year we get people with melted impellers through using cups wrong
Your not one but others do
Can you winterize it the same way with antifreeze?
No
Winterise is a spray through air intake
Me just using a 100 gallon bucket to flush it
I think that’s best way
At dealership we have tanks we push up to outboard so we can run outboard
what if u wanted to start it up like run the motor?
It’s your outboard do what you want
