I've been all about folk music since I was 11 y.o. (1959) and saw Makem and the Clancy Bros on the Ed Sullivan show. I've played stringed instruments now for almost 60 years and the magic is stronger than ever. Erin go Bragh!
Dave Siler}, then You were and Are a very lucky man that you Heard and Saw this remarkable man life on stage. I do admire you a big bit. For me there’s the little pleasure i saw dear old Luke twice live in a concert in, as i recall that well, 1982 and again in ‘85. But about the last date i’m not totally sure. I only do know for sure that it was just a cóuple of months before His tragic death. Far too young very sadly.... Just as that great Scot Andy M. also did tragically. His voice was also superb!!
Now they are both gone but they left their music here to enjoy. Now there is cloud in heaven with a party going on the Clancys Tommy Makem and the Dubliners plays together there..
Great singing(and tricky lyrics) from Tommy and Liam.....not to mention mighty fiddle playing from Martin Murray from Liams home town of Carrick on Suir Co. Tipperary.
Love this! So exciting to see something "new"! I never got to see Ballad of St. Anne's Reel live, because the fellas couldn't afford to bring a fiddle to any of the venues where I saw them. Been one of my huge favorites ever since I first heard it! Thank you, Anonymous! (I think I know who you are, but I won't spill the beans!)
Joan Miller, also my thanks for those kind words of you Joan!! Although there not for me, they ‘speak’ such a gréat Love for this Music!! It’s a Márvellous duet!!
Interesting. I'd never heard them sing it. First one I'd ever heard sing it was John Denver, so I've always liked his version the best. Still do. :) But great video, nonetheless.
I don't remember seeing Liam playing anything besides a guitar or concertina, but apparently he did play the bodhran sometimes. Maybe Tommy taught him, he played it on plenty of songs.
Sad that they're gone forever, but thank God for videos like this to remind us of better times.
Gone but never forgotten. Their music lives on in all of us,who enjoyed The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Make
RIP Lads ☘️☘️
Thank God for their lives and music. RIP Fellows
Of all the covers of this song I have ever come across, I love Makem & Clancy the best of all.
I'll miss them all until my last breath.
This a beautiful rendition of the Ballad of St. Anne's Reel. St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner.

I was 8 but I remember that too.

If we ever get to Heaven, the music is gonna be awesome.
Shane McGowan’s there too. All the heroes of Irish music Paddy Maloney, Sean Keane, Derek Bell. It’s going to be one Hell of a party.
You don't get much better than this. We can all be thankful that _The High Kings_ are carrying on a great tradition! ☘
This new generation of traditional Irish music as is beautiful as that I grew up with.
This is so excellent,2024.
One of my favorites! Never got to hear it live because where I heard them was too far to bring a fiddler.
Great singing(and tricky lyrics) from Tommy and Liam.....not to mention mighty fiddle playing from Martin Murray from Liams home town of Carrick on Suir Co. Tipperary.
yeah, some mighty rapid fiddling there, love it.
This song, covered by many, often Irish, was written by David Mallett, an great songwriter and performer from Maine, USA
Love it!! So pleased these recordings are preserved for us all to enjoy. Tommy, Liam and Mr fiddle player - thank you!
nakima61 i’m so lucky that we’re not the only who Enjoy the Music very, very múch

Two great men.

I'll check John's out. While this is good and they are great singers, I find it more of a pub singalong style.
a Pérfect song sung by Pérfect Irish Musicians!!
Great Dave Mallet song done well by Liam and Tommy. Nice fiddling by the Waterford guy, whistle by Tommy.
Love this version of The Ballad of the St Anne's Reel.
Johnny McEvoy with Phillip
playing fiddle sang a very good version of this Ballad.
Those were the days❤️
For some reason i think this is better than the dubliners version. Makem and Clancys voices bring it across much better
Beautiful,
You can’t beat this. I loved John Denver but this is explosive.
That's the way it's done
I don't remember seeing Liam playing anything besides a guitar or concertina, but apparently he did play the bodhran sometimes. Maybe Tommy taught him, he played it on plenty of songs.
It all about doing it right
Ní bheidh a leitheid arís ann
They are American
No they are not.
Another Irish singer that does this song is Jason MCGilligan
