Liked your very honest account of an experiment, revealing your success, as well as the failures. Now I know what to expect if I go on to do it myself. Thanks!

I am successful in propagatung dendrobium canes. What I do is I put one cane each in plastic conical pots, some half ro three fourths covered with charcoal only. Hang these under trees or sun shade, water sparingly, say twice a week when there is no rain. For getting faster results you have ro spray N P K orchid growth fertiliser 3:1:1 once ina week or fortnight. When there is too much rain keiki sprouting from the top portion may decay. Ignore that. After some days u can see keiki sprouting from the bottom part. Depending on the climate the result will come in 2 to 4 months. The advantage of charcoal is that it keeps optimum amount of water. And drains out excess amount of water. When keiki sprout u should give some time so that enough roots also develip. In my conical plastic pot charcoal propagation method, I think some application of pressure is there on the canes. I have also triied denrobium cane propagarion on a discarded wash basin. Half filled it wirh charcial. Placed canes. Again put charcoal over the canes So that it covers 60 percent. Water occasionally, sprays N P K 3:1:1 once in a week or once in two weeks. Keiki will sprout in different canes in different times. I have been unsuccessful in closed container with air holes and keeping moisture as some foreign channels explained. My opinion is that u should not treat denrobium and phel canes in the same manner. As regarda phels u could try foreign method. I have not tried propagation on phel stems. Thank u.

I agree I have got good results with open tray and well draining media..now 8 of them are growing nicely 🙂had it been close box, they would have rotten for sure... And yes for phals I'm also planning to do in a ziplock bag with some moist moss🙂👍

Based from my experience, banana skin soaked in water overnight is very effective in root and keiki production.

I would like to know whether it's better to cut canes and propagate keikis or devide a mature plant and devide the dseudobulbs into gruops of three and wait for a new shoot?
