Hi free thinkers, the bottom alternator mount has a sliding bush allow clamping pressure. You filed end of sliding bush to fit. Sometimes sliding bush tight. The alternator 80 amp mounts 160mm post 6mm for cable, the 110 amp alternator 8mm post drill out as you did, mounts 165mm when the bottom bolt fitted the top adjuster to slide maybe half bolt hole out in slide, you loosened the top mount on engine to fit belt adjuster. Your post was only post describing problems changing alternator from 80 amp to 110 amp, maybe remove air filter 3 bolts & two hose clamps gives extra room. Also fit vee belts rather than notched belt, less noise & more surface area. Great view.

Baz I totaly agree with you, as more and more online shopping is becoming the only way to get parts, they say they fit, but no. The job might not be easy and you need to be creative, but not to have to remachine the ordered part. I hope your reviues are seen and direct byers to shop in the right places. Thankyou for your direct honest aproch, sad about the cancled hoiladay.

Thanks James. Luckily it was only a weekend camping trip we missed and not an extended holiday.

You don’t need to file the alternator to make it fit the bottom mount. There is a bush in the bracket that you can slide out to give you the extra 0.7mm that you need. To do it I pushed a smaller bolt through the bolt hole then affixed two nuts. I then adjusted them so each one was at either end of the gap in the bracket, and then just tightened the one that was pressing against the bush so it pushed it back into the bracket. Removed the nuts and bolt and the alternator slotted right in. But boy I had some problems with the top bolt.

Thanks heaps for this comment. It will help me next time I need to replace an alternator and hopefully help many other people taking on this job too.
