This honestly has me stoked, I didn't even know they made a lap timer. I just had my third track day ever yesterday (not including all the iRacing) and I've been wanting to have something just like this - lap times, deltas, and all the supplemental info. I think it's going to make a great tool, especially if they continute developing on the app and obd reader and so on. Great video as always, definitely gonna invest in Dragy lap timer. I know there are other brands that do this, but I think the simplicity of it really sells it for me.
Thanks for the video. So it sounds like the GPS update is good, data collection is good, but everything else sounds to me to be bare bones. I like the idea, but the phone is a good adhoc/on-the-move location to "do it live". However, for anything serious with actual data collection and analysis, I am going to use a laptop and a full fledged OS. When that comes online and the export of data doesn't change, I think this would be a good alternative to something like Garmin's system. However, being a whale that is really looking for simplicity and value-adds so I can concentrate on driving and not worry about technical problems with a 7/10 solution, Draggy on-track (right now) seems to be a Beta heading in the right direction, but not there yet. I will definitely check it out when it gets more mature but I would be looking into a Garmin for simplicity or going full linux / all-out right now. Thanks!
appreciate the $2 sir! completely agree, def is a bit bare bones for power users. fingers crossed they follow thru with updates, I think it would be a real contender then 🤞
Great video. The one feature I'd like to see them add is to be able to sync an action camera like race chrono does. Mainly because not all phone cameras are a great option and I prefer a video that is further back to capture the cockpit along with the track itself than it being directly on the windshield.
Really good video very informative. I was at thunderbolt today, surprised I didn't see you there. Could have definitely use some of your tech advice. And probably a few pointers since this is my first time on thunderbolt. I can pretty much drive with my eyes closed on lightning. I have the v box sport and GoPro 7 black. Race Chrono worked fine yesterday. At the track I could not get it to pair. In hindsight, I could have used the dragy.
Nice review, but I am surprised you didn't mention a frustrating con with the lap comparison feature. While you can't compare other users lap times, you can't even compare your own lap times from different sessions. Only solution is to set up the timer and keep it running all day. Would be great if Dragy fixes this and allows proper side by side comparisons for different sessions, track days and even users.
good call out! I don't think racechrono can do that either come to think of it. maybe when they release the PC data analysis tool it will be included there
I just bought a drg70 for this reason and only received it yesterday, so it's not used yet. Looks like you currently need to email support to add more tracks. The 3d view playback often has the car going significantly out of bounds of the track. Obd2 integration and segment times would be nice.
Interesting to see you comment that phone GPS isn't so good. I've been using Hotlap (and like you mentioned, it's pretty cool to compare with friends and I've been liking it). But using Hotlap and comparing it to a transponder at my last event, times were very comparable. Down to the hundredth. Also, I ordered the Dragy anyway. I like the idea of a simple solution for video, overlay, and analysis.. Thanks for making the video.
I’ve had it for a while, tried running a lap on it once and it just didn’t work. That was right after the app came out, will try it again next track day.
sectors do exist you can see the sectors in the lap comparison at 5:58, but as far as I'm aware you can't view sector times yet or add your own to an existing track
do you know if the dragy lap app will work with no cel signal ? i am wondering if we visit a track in the middle of nowhere Texas, will we be able to force the slowest lap of the day to buy the beer.@@dadhats

that's what's up dude! it's simplicity is def the biggest selling point 👌
I’ve used the dragy lap app on an abandoned road before. Created my own track layout and got the timing info for my laps. Really cool
Thanks for the video.

completely agree! I was told awhile ago that they're working on it. no idea on an ETA tho

huh didn't realize that! in the meantime you should be able to create your own with add your own track function

that's so weird. yea I'd def give it another shot I haven't had any issues on the updated version
hi,
are you able to create sectors and then see your times for each sector?
thanks in advance
sectors do exist you can see the sectors in the lap comparison at 5:58, but as far as I'm aware you can't view sector times yet or add your own to an existing track
Is this free to just use like race chrono, or something I need to sign up and or pay for? Most of these frustrating
the app is free
Maybe this should be Lappy?
😂😂
you play melee?
yep just casually! I just stick to messing around on unranked
a little on the long side, but otherwise another in a long line of your very informative vids. thank you.
thank you! very true lol I tried to be as detailed as possible
