The Simplist switched reluctance motor I seen demonstrating the concept was made from a single electromagnet coil for a stator and a rotor with 6 nails with their heads evenly pointing out radially. It was mechanically commutated with two brushes that made concurent contact with a nail when a nail when that nail was moved within 30 degrees of the coil and broke contact when that nail moved in to position over the coil.
When connected to a battery, It's simple to see how this functions as a motor. But in theory it should be able to work as a generator if spun in reverse from how it motors. Just add a diode between the battery and motor's coil, but make the coil a center tapped coil. The diode will suppress induction kick back. When current is interupted, and the collapsing magnetic field will then dump all the energy stored in the magnetic field, into both halfs of the center tapped coil, resembling an auto transformer. This includes the mechanical work done pulling steal away from the electro magnet that stored even more potential energy in the magnetic field.
While generating, Using too few turns on the coils and spinning too slow and using too little magntizable metal risks too little inductance and too high current resulting in magnetically saturating the iron, and potentially less energy output than input.

Actually most of them are designed to run on 50 or 60hz. The change of polarity happens 50 to 60 times a second in this manner so it actually works a bit better with pure ac because the electromagnet part actually changes polarity attracting and repelling where as what you are doing is pulsed dc and the only reason it continues is the mass and energy continues the rotation. In the ac motor the central bar actually has a repell force at various times and that gives it a tiny bit more energy instead of just coasting along. But they can both work. I like the fact that you made one, it's very cool.

Thank you for the comment! Yes that’s true.
This motor only (coast) because it only has one circuit. The benefit of using dc is the output of up to 25% recovery of the input power.

switched reluctance motors only work on attraction, standard induction motors and synchrounous motors do benefit from attraction-repulsion, but the sine wave would help tons by allowing soft start-drop of current, reducing noise and torque ripple, (just add some diodes to send one phase to coil pair A and the other to coil pair B.

WOULD you be able to tell me how many magnet polls are need to make a motor for 1 H.Pl output with major torque ?? Rotor diameter, number of polls, are needed K Energy ??
How about the amount of electricity needed compared to a small fan motor draw ?? The best part is the use of just regular material without magnets.. How hot do the electromagnets get Sir ??
    Nicely done video Sir too.

@@kenergy1707 If I understand this correctly, reluctance motoring, if you energize an electromagnet, you dump some electrical energy into creating or storing energy in the magnetic field. it will exert a force on the steel and move the piece of steel into a low reluctance magnetic curcuit. work is done taking magnetic field energy and converting it to kenetic energy.
Switch the direction and the reverse happens. Magnetic reluctance electrical generating. If you create a low reluctance magnetic circuit, and put mechanical work into it by pull the piece of steel away, it it converts the mechanical energy to magnetic field potential energy that is in turn converted to electrical energy.

Yeah the copper acting like a secondary turn on a transformer carries an induced current because if an applied changing magnetic field. And the induced current creates its own magnetic field, and that field is in opposition to the initial change in magnetic field. Motors that use this mode of operation we call a syncronouse magnetic induction motors.
And while induction motors are asynchronous and work by repulsion, reluctance motor are syncronouse with the magnetic fields in the coils and operate by magnetic field attraction.
A basic Reluctance generator concept. Imagine a piece of steel with two identical coils. The primary coil charges the magnetic field of a piece of steel. An attached piece of steel is then pulled away comverting mechanical enerfy into magnetic field enerfy. Then the primary coil is switched off and the secondary coil is witched on. All the energy in the magnetic field is now dumped into the secondary coil.
