- Marilyn Monroe only owned one home in her life, but the current owner of the property wants to tear down the historic structure. Conservationists are fighting to save the property, but its future is unclear.

Liz Taylor's last house, and her belongings, had a much different outcome. Why? Because her children and grandchildren adored her. Her jewelry was auctioned off. And her house was sold. Everything was probably planned by her. And family carried out her final wishes.
They knew that house was a landmark property when they bought it. They need to move to an area that suits them better.

It's disgustingly selfish to knowingly purchase something that is renowned by millions only to destroy it. This is not the only home on the west side side that could have been purchased for rejunification.
What was not mentioned in this story, is that the people that bought Marilyn's house also purchased the adjacent property where they built a massive house, they purchased MM's house for the sole purpose of destroying it to expand their back yard. Ridiculous lack of respect!

The only reason any place should be torn down is because it is uninhabitable due to mold, mildew, etc. Tearing it down because of it being a tourist attraction is certainly not a good reason, if the people living in or around it dont like it, they can move away. Their sense of entitlement is astounding.
I have to wonder their age and if they really understand the significance of the home and the iconic woman who lived... and died there.

The city does not want that house. The city actually gave a permit to have the house demolished until Marilyn fans got involved. The city would love to have the house torn down and a bigger house built because that would mean more taxes for city government.

Billionaire heiress Brinah Milstein lives in the house next door. She bought Monroe's home specifically for the purpose of tearing it down and expanding her property. She has already removed the wall, trees, and other landscaping between the two homes. Hopefully this answers some questions and shows how absolutely awful these "reporters" are.

If the house does get knocked down and a new house rebuilt, what happens if the new owners move in and then decide to sell up and move away? Marilyn's house would be torn down for nothing.

If they want to tear it down, then the owners should have no problem if the city wants to move the house to another location. Then they can build whatever (probably generic, charm-free) house they want.

Marilyn Monroe is an important part of Americana. Her beloved home should reflect that by being protected as an historic landmark.
These are the type of homeowners in this city that I can't stand. Thank god for the owners of the original Halloween house; they will put out pumpkins for you to recreate one of the famous scenes that Jamie Curtis did.

I don’t understand: when she was alive, no one did anything to help her. However, she has been died for over 60 years and people are so fascinated.
You're wrong. Joe Dimaggio was always there for her. He tried to protect her, to help her. He could only help as much as she would allow. She was playing with fire and as a result her life was ended. After her tragic death, Mr. Dimaggio came forward and claimed her body. He arranged her funeral with respect and dignity. For years he had roses placed at her gravesite. It's true she had little family, but she did have someone. We, her fans, are fascinated because she was the most beautiful woman ever, most iconic actress. Also, because of the mystery surrounding her death. We want the truth and we want her name cleared. She did not commit suicide and everyone knows it.

It’s so charming. I never heard about it being haunted ,so leave it. It’s about money,right . The owners didn’t need to buy it, they knew what they were getting, they just want to make more money. Probably put up some monster mansion, devoid of charm.

The owners should turn the home to an Airbnb. So many people would love to spend the night in the home that she lived in, including myself! It would definitely be lucrative for them.
I've visited the property several times. It's much too nice for an Airbnb. They may as well go ahead and tear it down instead of letting strangers trash it.

That is why we have museums a house takes up a lot of release. I think they should just preserve items from the house that could have belonged to her in a museum.
Instead of demolishing it, the owner should be allowed to *donate* the structure to the city. The city can relocate the house at the taxpayer's expense. It's a win/win.

It is a historical landmark because a notable person lived there but I agree. They should put her stuff in a resume. Also there are a billion more buildings more historically significant and exciting to look at.

I don't buy it for a second. They knew what they were getting into. They want to build a McMansion and it's the city's responsibility to prevent it. MM's memory isn't the only reason to preserve this home. It's a beauty, old CA architecture, and people have plenty of new models to choose from, so move. Leave old architecture alone!
