      Monroe had no children/ family that might have prevented this. Sigh. 😢
      Liz Taylor's last house, and her belongings, had a much different outcome. Why? Because her children and grandchildren adored her. Her jewelry was auctioned off. And her house was sold. Everything was probably planned by her. And family carried out her final wishes.

    The only reason any place should be torn down is because it is uninhabitable due to mold, mildew, etc. Tearing it down because of it being a tourist attraction is certainly not a good reason, if the people living in or around it dont like it, they can move away. Their sense of entitlement is astounding.

    DEFINITELY SAVE THE LANDMARKS ,,
    the current owners knew whose house it once was owned by, before they purchased it - and that it was a tourist attraction (because that did not just begin) // and I’m sure that its once belonging to Marilyn Monroe was part of the enticement to purchase it
    //
    as for pink’s .. before it even became a business inside a (it’s existing) physical structure ,, it was simply a cart selling hot dogs on that corner … until the owners decided to go to the bank across the street and obtain a $5k (I think, although the amount may be incorrect) loan for what is now a city land square

She was playing with fire and as a result her life was ended. After her tragic death, Mr. Dimaggio came forward and claimed her body. He arranged her funeral with respect and dignity. For years he had roses placed at her gravesite. It's true she had little family, but she did have someone. How about buy them out? Would they be able to move it without ending up destroying it? Ya, I think they need to be bought out. If they already want to destroy it anyway, then they clearly don't want it to live in, buy land someplace else & leave this house to someone who will appreciate it's history.

    Poor reporting here. Complete omission of the fact that little of Monroe’s actual house remains, given it has been renovated many times over the last 60 years.

    Come on people it’s just a property! Marylin doesn’t own this! She’s been gone for over 60 years just because she lived and died there doesn’t make it a “Historical Landmark”… 🙄

      It is a historical landmark because a notable person lived there but I agree. They should put her stuff in a resume. Also there are a billion more buildings more historically significant and exciting to look at.

    Should have never sold it to non fans! So many fans would cherish that home. I’m surprised Mariah Carey hasn’t tried. Didn’t they think they’d be bothered living at MM’s house?! How could you want to tear down such a link to the past?

    maybe Bobby Kennedy Jr. should buy it since his father spent so much time there and he was one of the last visitors to see her the night she died not to mention all the wiretapping that was placed throughout the house to spy on her.

    I dont get it. Its a beautiful house. Just buy an empty plot of land.

    I don't buy it for a second. They knew what they were getting into. They want to build a McMansion and it's the city's responsibility to prevent it. MM's memory isn't the only reason to preserve this home. It's a beauty, old CA architecture, and people have plenty of new models to choose from, so move. Leave old architecture alone!
