i was there that night. smelly filthy place. best pub dublin ever had for bikers. rip liam lynch . i dont know how you put up with us! wild nights never forgotten by anyone that was there every monday and especially for that night. no frills just a great pub
This was Crazy Cavan at their prime which of course the rockabily revival was big across europe and to this day still is.
the Magnet was pulled down, some apartments stand there today with a shop at the bottom. I wasnt there ever, but I know Dublin well after living here 6 years, I did know Cavan very well, he was a real nice man, always kind and cool. RIP Crazy Cavan, 1949 - 2020

@Grifiki 6.5 was a music show on RTE in Ireland. The Shakin Pyramids appeared on it in 1981 when we brought them to Dublin for 2 shows in the Magnet. Unfortunately the producer of the show wiped the tapes some years after so a bit of Rockabilly magic is no more.

I remember one Monday night I was there with some buddies from the club and a group of Hells Angels were sitting at one of the tables and one of their brothers was trying to show a bit of class by drinking a half pint of whiskey in a half pint glass. He got about three quaters of the way down and there were actually tears running down his face as he struggled with the last quater , shit knows how he drove home , lol but we all had a great night.
That’s my sister and me dancing at 2:40, a great night, one of many had in the Magnet, still Rockin these days and hope to for many more!!

The Magnet..long gone, wish I had gone there..a Dub institution. Cavan was on top form around this time. As a kid in London I had also just got to see Cavan this year at a club near my home town. It was pretty mad as he was rollin on a big wave back then, gigs every single weekend of the year, non stop. ..and..they are still at it today almost 40 years later...
40 years ? He was going since ' 64! RIP Legend

I did ask Avril Mc Rory who produced the show but unfortunately the tape was wiped by RTE.
Maybe someone had the sense to video a copy on the night.
