I'm 53. I stopped listening to music in 1991 when I graduated from college and started working 60-80 hours a week. My daughter and my buddy recently talked me into getting a Spotify Family subscription, and I am in the process of rediscovering the music I listened to when I was young, and discovering all the music I missed in the last several decades. My new favorite band is RISE AGAINST! They're awesome. I haven't heard a single song from them that doesn't make me want to jump up and down and tear down the walls. LOVE IT.
check out old skool nerd on youtube,. he basically did the same thing, and now does reactions to music of all types,.. really down to earth guy, fun to listen to, and helps you discover more music you never thought you needed! enjoy your journey!
same here but I'm not even 30 yet. heard this on a car passing by and remembered. now Im listening to music on UA-cam. lol I can't believe how old some of the songs are now. made me realize some stuff.
I wish this album hadn't remained so relevant as the ripples spread around the world, beautiful as it is. Here in small-town Alberta, Canada, in the tail end of 2023, and even from my isolated corner, the world keeps getting scarier. I keep trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do to stop it, but it seems, locally and abroad, the people of the world have simply gone mad -- or maybe they've reverted to what they were all along. An outpouring of rage, hatred, and greedy fear and zero-sum thinking around the world, burning the future of our children. Is this just what humans are? Is it pointless to aspire to a better world? But I listen to this music to remind me that we have to try anyways. Too much rides on us to give in to despair.
I remember listening to this band around middle school when I was an edgy teen trying to fit in. Now I'm a senior in highschool, about to go to college and I still love their music as much as when I started listening to them. I love the message they portray in every one of their songs and I never get sick of listening to them over and over. A truly incredible band.
I was in sixth grade playing Tony Hawk's Underground. Heard, Like the Angel and I've been on board ever since. That was 13 years ago. They were my first favorite band and still in my top 5 today. Just great lyrics and music all around.
I'll go you one better. I first started getting down to Rise Against back when Revolutions Per Minute came out - I was where you are now at that point, the later years of highschool. I'm now almost thirty and still love this band more than when I first started cranking them.
i've been listening to them since 2001 when they relesed The Unravelling, I'm 35 now and still listening to them, some bands are just great like that. Another good one is Bad Religion check them out if you haven't already.
26 February 2022, i just realized that this song finally fits so well with the current War between Ukraine VS Russia Especially when the lyrics talks about "the bombs are getting closer everyday “that could never happen here” we used to say have these wars come to our doorstep? has this moment finally come?"
I'm 60 years old and have been listening/enjoying R&R for 50 years. I thought that I have heard almost everything. This is a remarkable song, video, and message. This band/song rocks! I listen to it a dozen times in a row and never get tired of it. I have sent it to multiple friends with the instruction...sit down, put on a seat belt, and try to stay still listening to it.
I would like to take this time to appreciate this group for being one of the few bands from my childhood that hasn't tried to change their sound to appeal to a mainstream audience. RISE AGAINST IS THE BEST!
Can we all appreciate how the lyrics are so well written? Am I the only one who wants to read a book written by Tim? The lyrics are just pure and hardcore poetry, I wish I could write like Tim.
you take more time to think about what you're writing when someone is trying to censor it,you pick your words more carefully, several songs and videos(re-education through labor for example the video was banned for showing them planting bombs in the city while they ride around on their bikes) had to be censored to be shown to the public
wow, well said, the first half of my life i enjoyed music.. that was it, base level cool stuff., the last 5 years or so, I experience music, so much better now! but there is a time and place for each, as long as you dont box yourself into one sound, one genre, one... you will get an experience out of everything you listen to, watch, do in life.. let it happen!!❤
there is so much power is this verse we’re talking in our sleep and sleeping through our lives we dream of the places where we never die we step from the shadows and into the light
This song truly is the new age anthem for peace, harmony and the detached mentality that has become reality. The world needs Rise Against more than ever
Thank you, Rise Against, for your music. I have yet to find another band able to resonate with me like you do, or provide such meaningful lyrics calling for a change as you guys do time and time again. From the very bottom of my heart- thank you. We need more bands like you.

I don't listen to much rock anymore. Grew up thru the 90's grunge stuff and kind of lost the edge, but when these guys come out with a album I always enjoy them. Thanks guys, I'm too old to be trendy, just give me some good riffs and song writing and I'm happy. Nice job!

No, not a dream. Violence comes and subsides. People just need the perspective that drives the mindset for a peaceful resolution. "How can I/we fix this" versus "this is too big a problem." People lose sight at times, but they will come back around. As people we haven't achieved all we have by not doing so. Great video!
This band definitely has its way of releasing a new album when I'm on the edge. Looking forward to seeing rise for the first time. I'll probably blubber like hell!

Dancing on the crumbling precipice
The rocks are coming loose just at the edge
Are we laughing? Are we crying?
Are we drowning? Are we dead?
Or is it all a dream?
The bombs are getting closer everyday
"That could never happen here" we used to say
Have these wars come to our doorstep?
Has this moment finally come?
Or is it all a dream?
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
Is the violence in our nature
Just the image of our maker?
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
To become something greater
Than the violence in our nature?
Are we not good, good enough?
Or is it all a dream?
To a predetermined fate are we condemned?
Or maybe we're a book without an end?
We're not stories, we're not actors
We're awake and in control
And this is not a dream
So can we break this mold
And set in motion something new?
Forgetting what we know
An evolution overdue
Fight the current
Pull the ripcord
Get away!
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
Is the violence in our nature
Just the image of our maker?
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
To become something greater
Than the violence in our nature?
Are we not good, good enough?
Well-trodden paths are all we take
We need a storm, let's pray for rain now
To wash these roads away
Let's get off track and wander far
Same roads lead to same destinations
Follow nothing but your heart
We're talking in our sleep
And sleeping through our lives
And we dream of the places where we never die
We step from the shadows and into the light
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
Is the violence in our nature
Just the image of our maker?
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
To become something greater
Than the violence in our nature?
Are we not good enough?
Are we not brave enough?
Are we not good, good enough?
Or was it all a dream?
I've failed, but I will NOT give up .. For whatever I have left, I must let know I didn't concede. I fought till the end.
