this method did not work for 4k resolutions 3840*2160@60k in ubuntu 22.04.1 (XWAYLAND0 vmware guest OS). I used to used xrandr to set custom resolution in older version of ubuntu. now; it does not work.

Wholy shit I have to edit the grub config and reboot to get a custom resolution?? What year is this? 1995? YOTLD!!
sadly cannot set a custom resolution using XRANDR (xrandr) on Ubuntu 22.04 since it uses WAYLAND by default.
