This was great, Britt. I've watched a few other videos about sail pumping, but this is the one that really made it click. The way you break down the three major sail movements makes the proper technique clear and easy to understand. The second half of the video, where you go back through the technique and show how you use your body efficiently, makes the whole process even clearer. I practiced all of this during my last couple of foiling sessions and am noticing a major improvement in my ability to get up on foil. Please keep up the good work and make more videos!
Thanks for the feedback! I am stoked that it made a difference for you. Being efficient with your movements and body weight allows you to sail longer and easier so more time on the water
I typically prefer to be underpowered when foiling, since when I am able to get up on the foil, even the slightest wind sustains flight. This of course necessitates pumping and in this respect, I think this is the best tutorial out there. Many thanks!
Thanks Brit this is one of the most helpful tutorials about pumping out there. How about a 2.0 version of this tutorial talking about pumping the foil and coordinating with pumping the sail?
Explosive Pumping! Now we’re talking!!! I will explode all over my next session with these tips. ....... seriously though appreciate the explanation and will put in some practice on pumping. 💥 🔥
Thanks for the great tutorial. UA-cam seems very light on this important skill. Would be awesome if you could do a tutorial on how to combine sail pumping with foil pumping as some others have mentioned.
Thanks Britt! This was really helpful! I learned a bunch! I have been using my arms too much. I am also interested in combining the sail pumping with dolphin pumping the foil. I have been enjoying a large front wing in light air (moses1100) and when I do I notice that pumping the foil vertically is where the magic happens. Like, I start the motion with something that resembles jumping off the board vertically. I would love to your tips in that discipline and how to combine both efforts. Thanks for what you do mate!
Great tutorial. One thing I noiticed though: While the upper body/sail pumping technic is the same, my experience is that the legs have to work differently depending on whether you're on a foil or a fin. On a fin the legs have to apply a more lateral push against the fin while on the foil the push is a bit more vertical in order to load the wings effectively. I found that this makes a big difference in your ability to make your upper body pumping effort rewarded faster.
Yes, absolutely. There is a difference in foot pressure between fin and foil. I was trying to do a general pumping video rather than a specific foil or fin pumping video
Thanks. Imho this is general windsurf sail pumping. Windfoiling adds another dimension with vertical foil pumping, espacially when riding small gear (shorter than 2m). One must understand that only one's feet are pushing the board forward, the sail is not driving the board forward (quite the opposite in fact) it gives you the lever point to push with your legs.
Hi, nice! I use the same Glide 2 sail. What should the wind direction be when pumping? I usually go 15-30 degrees downwind, and when I start foiling, I turn to the tack or 10-15 degrees upwind to regain my position. I can usually reach a speed of about 25 km/h, but when there's a wind gap, my speed drops very quickly, so I have to pump again with the sail closed. I don’t have enough space to pump and usually no space to go downwind. How should I pump in that situation (i.e., when going upwind)? Also, what should I do with my legs? Please describe what to do with them for foiling both before and after takeoff, as well as for the fin version.
Excellent stuff. One question though. I've read somewhere that to be more efficient when pumping it is a good idea to slide the front hand down the boom. Care to comment on that?
It was Slingshot Wizard then. I am been using the Severne Alien 145 or a Severne Predator 110 now. It is really astonishing how early they foil compared to the Slingshot Wizards. So much more efficient in getting foiling

Thanks for watching Matt! We're so stoked that you enjoyed it and hope it helps in those really light wind days to keep you flying!

Great Idea! We'll add it to our list!
Best video on windsurf/ foil sail pumping I have seen ...puts all the techniques together in a very understandable way. Thanks Britt!
Thanks!! I appreciate the feedback

Nice stuff, Britt! I'll get to give it a try on Sunday I hope. Like the idea of a 2.0 version which talks about footwork.
Thanks for the great tutorial. UA-cam seems very light on this important skill. Would be awesome if you could do a tutorial on how to combine sail pumping with foil pumping as some others have mentioned.
Great idea! We're working on that video already and we'll get it posted soon. Thanks for watching!!
Great tutorial! Definitely showing the guys at the club
Awesome! Thanks for watching.

Well explained !
Excellent.I missed only some comments about legs pressure,..and stance.
good explain, will try this weekend
Excellent

Please make a review of the new severne foilglide 2! Thanks 🙏 great videos!
We are already working on that review. We have been using the Foil Glide 2 and are thrilled with it.
Clear and helpfull for sure , thx
Thanks Brit, very useful tip THANKS! Buying a windfoil kit from you asap! Can`t wait to get out there and enjoy light wind finally, yay.
Awesome, I am stoked that it makes sense for you!

If your hands are in the correct spot shoulder width apart with the Center of effort in between them, then there is not a reason to move them
Thanks so much for this! I was doing the Arnold Schwarzenegger version of pumping. Best way to get gassed in less than an hour! :-D
Thanks for watching! Glad we could help keep you in the water longer. Let us know how it goes
What board do you use? I think I see a Slingshot?
