You should consider making some insets on your gearbox frame to reduce the weight some. Just use triangles

Thanks for the suggestion. The gearbox sides are made of a lightweight composite material. Adding holes would have only a minor effect on the gearbox weight, while significantly reducing the impact strength of the gearbox.

Regarding the price, this is a robust unit designed for large RC ornithopters. It should not be compared with small, plastic gearboxes taken out of toys. Many of the parts are custom made and CNC machined. The frame is made from a G10 composite material. The motor alone retails for $80 and is a high quality motor made in Europe. (www.modelmotors.cz/product/axi-2208-v2/) A lot of engineering and testing went into this unit, in order to allow serious hobbyists an easier route to building their own high-end ornithopter.

@@OrnithopterZone1 honestly I thought it was a reasonable price. Especially if you consider the price of the brushless motors, like you said or the gears. Damn.. good quality gears can be so expensive.. But you have to consider the people's location.. for me it's an okayish price but to others (like people from Brazil or Mexico) it's a hell amount of money. So.. please don't take it too personally if people say it is expensive.
