It's only after having rewatched this like five times that I just realized the parallel between Locke blowing up the submarine in Season 3 to keep everyone on the island is contrasted with "Locke" blowing up the submarine in Season 6 to get himself off the island. It seems utterly obvious now, but it's just one of those comparisons I hadn't really made before lol.
That's the beauty of the show, you can always discover new things in it. It's so rich with themes, motives, little details connecting bigger plot threads that it will still surprise you even if you think you already know everything. It's the hallmark of a truly great show. Lost might not be perfect, it has plotholes, loose threads and stupid shit that doesn't go anywhere but at least it dared to do something different and original. It's a shame a lot of people refuse to watch it because of the supposedly bad ending which is almost an urban myth at this point.
Thank you so much for the 2 parter. This episode always just breaks me. Sayid showing humanity again and sacrificing himself to try to save everyone always starts it for me. Then sun and jin... they finally found each other again and then boom they die. When Hurley starts crying I sob.
@@susanmaggiora4800 I just know that she loves "friends" so that's my honest guess :-p I don't think I actually shed a tear when watching friends (and I watched it a lot), but it's a great scene. But, I couldn't sleep after a certain futurama episode, because it hit me hard!
I still vividly remember my first experience watching this episode. I've never cried that hard during a movie or TV show before or since. Absolutely heartbreaking episode.
That Kate getting shot fall stunt is so good. Wish I could tell if it's a stunt woman or not. Looks very much like her falling. Semi-unrelated, but I know they let Evangeline do a good amount of tree climbing when not filming from behind the scenes footage, so I've also always thought that stunt of Kate climbing over the sonic fence in Season 3 was real. Could have had a safety line I guess.
Surprised to see you here! Your videos are of course amazing. If you ever did a LOST video I think I might dehydrate from crying. My mom laughed and said Hurley was laughing when she first watched it. I didn't talk to her for a couple days. ;/

I hate that Sayids death gets overshadowed because of Jin and Sun. Nobody mentions it or grieves at all because of it. Yet he sacrificed himself to save his friends and overcame the sickness that the MIB gave him.
I love the show but have to admit that Sayid's character was the biggest writing casualty (not actual casualty ironically lol) of the series, in that they sacrificed his character in the last season to move the plot forward. They needed MIB's forces to have a formidable enforcer and also remove Sayid from the light side because otherwise you'd never feel in danger because Sayid was there. Making Sayid MIB's enforcer solved both problems at once, but it also meant that we lost a ton of characterization from him as on Island Sayid is pretty much just a zombie for 95% of the final season. One small consolation is that his character in the sideways is at least not a zombie, but even there, I think his character more than any of the others was to show that not everyone can move past their issues, even in this better world, so a lot of his story there was retreading (purposefully, but still). At the very least, he had that scene with Shannon in the finale which is just absolutely heartbreaking.
Yeah, I like Season 6 and the ending but they ruined Sayid. They should have killed him off at the end of Season 5 or the beginning of Season 6 so that his death might have an emotional impact. When he sacrifices himself on the sub you're not really feeling sad about it, you're just relieved that he's not a total zombie. I think they should have given Sayid a full redemption arc like they did for Ben. Instead they turned him into a killer, someone who's easily manipulated by Ben to do his bidding. They kind of ruined his development in the first couple of seasons.
@@hansmahr8627 I completely disagree about ruining Sayid's development. His story was about struggling with his dark side, he was being pushed towards it since the beginning and he's at his darkest in the final season. Sayid did get the short end of the stick in season 6 but in no way, shape or form he was ruined. It was a fitting ending for him.
Jin never knew his daughter, other than through a picture. Spent 3 years, or 30 years, trying to get back to his wife. He had to know Sun wouldn’t just leave her high and dry. Probably another theory out there too, but save that for later.
Yeah it’s not sadder, but it’s definitely full of some of the most moving and powerful character moments, some sad but so many just beautiful and satisfying. I can’t wait!
OMG! What an episode!!! You're all crying, I'm crying, everyone is friggin crying.....Jesus! "I'm NOT having feelings!" lol yah right! "I don't know if that's healthy" "I eat when I'm sad okay?" Me too Jeremy, me too~
Wow, Jeremy AND Sleepy Hannah both getting emotional Too??? I'm legit surprised. The power of Sun and Jin and this loss XD :'''''(( No matter how many times I watch this ep or reactions, that never gets easier :((
It hurts me that you cut out the part when Jack walks towards the sea to cry alone over Jin and Sun. That was Jack's most honest tears in the show. A moment when it seems to him that he couldn't handle the preassure of being always the strong leader, and finally let go the sadness contained in his soul.
Speaking as a dude who's married to a Korean woman (named Sun, no less), it is clear to me that Sleepy Hannah has no idea how stubborn Korean people are - I speak generally, and not specifically. When Jin told Sun he would never leave her again, the decision was made, come hell or high water (no pun intended). I now nominate the aforementioned Sleepy Hannah as the Sayid (season 6 version) of this group. She didn't cry when Sun & Jin died together, making her dead inside LOL. Even Jeremy got some dust in his eyes. That said, I'm still so glad to rewatch this with all 4 of the team. :) Live together, cry alone.

Also, remember that Sun and Jin's daughter was already under the impression that her father--that she has never met--was dead. She's being raised by her grandparents in Sun's absence. She does have "parents" even if Jin does not make it back.

Remember, Ji Yeon is being raised by Sun's parents who don't like Jin. Jin has been legally declared dead, and his daughter has never met him. Sun's parents would never let Jin just come back into Ji Yeon's life without Sun, so Jin's only hope of becoming a part of his daughter's life is kidnapping her and raising her on the run with no money, no resources, and no valid ID (since he's legally dead) while one of the richest, most powerful men in the world that hates Jin hunts him down. Jin's ability to be Ji Yeon's father died as soon as Sun did.
