I've worn Clark's desert boots for 40 years and currently own about ten or so pairs in different colors. You're right about their simplicity and the high quality materials. I belong to the crowd who holds these boots to be extremely comfortable. I never did need that much support in a shoe, just something sturdy to wrap around my feet. I can walk all day long on those crepe soles. I have one pair that is a quarter century old and still holds up to a good day's wear!
These are so popular here in South Africa among the farming community they call it Vellies. When the sole is done they stitch a piece of Tyre track to it and it lasts years
I started to watch your channel because i bought a pair of doc martens boots but i kept watching more videos because learning about boots and leather is actually very interesting. Im a new subscriber and im glad your channel is growing. Keep it up dude!
Hi, these were popular with British soldiers serving in the middle east and India, This was the informal civilian uniform “Mufti “ that was authorised when not dressed in issued uniforms. These boots were made by camp cobblers who would draw the outline of your feet on a paper and come back with a pair of boots the following week. The originally boots were commissioned in Cairo cobblers by South African soldiers whose old-military issue boots had failed them out on the desert terrain. We British soldiers who served in Africa, Muscat and Oman, Aden, and the Far East had at least a couple of pairs of these boots in our kit but always suede leather, and found them very comfortable boots.
I cried when you cut the Clarks apart. 60 years ago I was working and able to afford them. Less than twenty bucks. Best shoes in the world at that time. Thanks for the memories.
The best desert boots I ever had. I will love this dessert boots till I die. From dust to dust. The best!!! Nothing could ever go wrong, any pants shirt even I think formal, you will never go wrong with clarks desert boots.
Its amazing to see all these countries that loves Clarks shoes. My Misses took our 9 month old boy for his first time to get his feet measured. Its a British tradition that every child goes through. Glad to hear other countries have the same feelings toward such an iconic shoe! Hope everyone is doing well in these crazy times ✌🏼
It definitely is a great British tradition. I remember going with my Nan as a child and having my foot measured in the torture contraption. When you put the soles of the Clarks together it was a big green dinosaur. 😁 I have two pairs of suede Clarks now that I wear everyday!
I used to have the worst foot pain after wearing these. But they looked so good on and matched almost every outfit I was wearing at the time. So glad to see you review the construction in depth. I really just thought it was my flat feet that was the problem in comfort.
I've worn these almost daily for 10 years. My second pair is about to be retired. They are the least waterproof boot I've ever worn. They are insanely dangerous on wet and icy surfaces. When it's dry there's nothing better imo.

Clark's are Jamaican favorite shoes i have been wearing Clark's since the 1970s at that time a pair of desert boots was $15 Jamaican, we call the bottom cheese Clark's company recognized Jamaican by putting a booklet into the box of a pair of Clark's talking about the history of the desert boots and in that booklet they mentioned that Jamaican call the rubber bottom cheese, by the way back in the day Clark's desert boots only comes in one color khaki color it was many years after we get the coco brown
I've been wearing Clarks Desert Boots for almost 60 years. Received my first pair when I was 8 as a Christmas gift...so I'd have shoes just like my parents wore. I love them and feel they are extremely comfortable. I currently have 3 pairs--different colors--and I can't imagine not having Desert Boots in my closet and on my feet. I love the crepe soles and the pair with oil tan uppers.
An interesting thing about crepe is when repairing you do not need glue, you just scour both mating surfaces and then press with low to midium pressure after finishing apply French chalk as to remove the takcy finish. Off cuts can be used for removing glue and marks, also when picking stitching rubbing with a piece of crepe will pull out cut stitches quickly
Weston, have been watching your videos for a couple years now, can't believe I hadn't clicked the subscribe button, sorry mate, subscribed now! Keep up the good work!
Finally! A video that explains why my heels hurt after a day of working in a pair of these Clarks! I stand most of the day at work (I'm a chiropractor) and find my heels hurting towards the end of a long stretch of standing. It's a soreness that I hadn't experienced with other shoes/boots and was baffled why this happened. I knew that they were a classic style of shoe and bought them for that reason but didn't realise that they had a design flaw that inherently leads to discomfort. I thought about adding a store-bought insole hoping to add some cushioning to the heel but now I realise that it would be futile given that these boots don't have a shank. One thing I discovered is that the crepe sole do not slip on ice/snow in comparison to other shoes. I was with friends at a snow trip here in Victoria, Australia and realised that I was walking upright and comfortably in the carpark with my Clarks while my mates were slip-sliding around in runners! Somehow the rubber composition of these crepe soles are better and grippy-er on ice and snow. I have a couple of pairs of these chukkas and they look good paired with jeans (selvedge or faded) or chinos. Thank you for this video!
I bought these for really cheap on sale before hopping on a train and didn't think anything of them other than they looked nice with grey pants. Now they are my favorite shoes and are incredibly comfortable, even standing for twelve hour shifts
I've owned a pair since 2014 and they're reaching the end of their life. I got super lucky when Amazon had them on sale for $40 a few weeks ago! I scooped up a replacement pair immediately lol I love my Clarks
I think the reason the discoloration happens isn't so much that the wax or oil is "moved" in or out of the leather, but that the surface area of the leather is increased by stretching and opening the fibers (the oil/wax follows, and also has increased surface area, thus a duller appearance due to more scattered light), and then when you rub it what happens is that the fibers, oil, and wax are burnished and simply smoothed out, causing less scattering of light.
Loving the style and looks of these shoes, I’ve had multiples of for years now as the bottoms don’t generally hold up all that well. Being tried of throwing away and buying the same shoe I called a shoe cobbler to see if there were any options of resoling. To my surprise, there were. I had mine resolved in a creme colored vibram bottom (pic can be googled). Since replacement, this shoe has become a game changer. It is so much more supportive and I can finally we’re them in the rain 😉.
The history of the boots is really interesting and would explain all you need to know - I’m surprised you didn’t mention it. They were the off duty boots for English soldiers fighting in the desert. They were designed to be taken on and off really quickly to empty out sand. They are casual boots by design.
wow! that's really interesting! i tried on a pair in 'approximately' my size (men's 7 -- i'm a woman, size 40 euro) and thought: "wtf with this design (two eyelets per side, that clunky ankle scenario and fully a size too large) and what purpose was it supposed to serve?" thanks for the history! now i can sleep knowing i don't have regret not purchasing them (at the goodwill outlet for two bucks a pound, no less) -- my itinerary contains zero african safaris and i'm not aching that badly to wax hipster...@@sergeantbigmac
Interesting to see them in half. I have been resoling these desert boots and wallabees for years. The desert boots, I improve them by replacing the felted insoles with leather. That way I can add a simple flat shank inbetween the layers of the soles to add support, if customer wants them. However, the replacement gum sole material is not cheap, its expensive to obtain because we have to get a sheet of the material and it is sold by the pound, and causes the shipping to be expensive.
One of the most requested styles of clarks shoes I do. This pair wasnt worn out so the resoling turned out better than ones that get worn down to the "nubs" they are a true moccasin, where the desert boot is a stitchdown, and the insole is also the midsole, which many people who dont know they can be resoled, and rebilding them becomes more expensive when insole/midsole is worn out. hartlandshoes.us/Wallabees2.JPG

I've been wearing Clarks Dessert Boots since I was 16 yrs old. I'm 33 yrs old now and I always have at least 2 pairs at a time, they are my favorite footwear.
I was gently rocked awake by a 5.7 magnitude earthquake this morning... How crazy is the world right now?! Did anyone else in Utah get woken up by the earthquake?
Hey...Ive been asking for this!! Thank U!! Your interaction with your followers is amazing...Love from London xx🥰 Hope your doing ok...London is crazy 🙄🤯
Rose Anvil No. But I was woken up by a 6.4 in Tokyo one time after assuring my girlfriend that it was safe to go to Tokyo. It shook the whole hotel building and we were on the 16th floor and it was quite a shock. I called the front desk asking what we should do. He suggested we go back to sleep.
I love my Chukkas. Took about a week to soften the leather above the toe - as it creased when I walked it was rubbing on the top of my foot. The slippery sole in the wet makes them not great to wear in winter, which is a shame. Other than the slippery sole, the only thing I’d change is having 6 lace eyelets rather than 4. I had my local shoe repairer add two more at the top and it made the boots fit so much better around my ankles.
I REALLY wanted to like my Clark’s, but you nailed it. Uncomfortable after a day’s wear, especially on the heel. And the sole had a bad habit of losing pieces of itself.
I agreed with every criticism except the uncomfortable part, they don't last long (sole gets worn out) and if they are not sized just right, there is a lot of heel slippage, dangerously slippery when wet and walking on a smooth surface like tile or frozen rain, but under normal conditions they are like walking on a cloud. I get mine to last about a year of daily use wearing them to work, grocery stores, moderate walks through the city, occasional short hikes through texas hill country. After a year the sole is gone.
I have a pair. It’s a casual boot to wear if you’re going out for fun. I also have a pair of Wallabee and those are much more comfortable for everyday.
I wore Clark’s for many years during the 80s and 90 s, and yes, they were the most comfortable walking shoes ever. I quit wearing them when manufacturing moved out of Ingland and the quality with it.
They used to be my favorite Clark's, but I since found the desert trek and wallabee shoes. They're the desert boot killer. Thicker soles, and they just feel more robust. I'd say similar quality as Blundstone, but don't feel as sturdy. But I recommend Wallabees, I wear mine with a thick insole so they don't fall off.
To each their own....Wallabees are ankle destroyers. The point of desert boots is that they are simple go with anything footwear (especially the suede) The thinner sole means you can dress it up, a thicker sole doesn't allow this as it has a more casual look.
I happen to have a pair of these shoes. Initially, they were very uncomfortable. But, they were also very narrow, since I had to go down half a size. Once I got through that, they are the most comfortable shoes ever!! And because they're lightweight, it sometimes feel as if I'm not even wearing shoes.
As soon as I finished OSUT the first thing I did was go and buy a pair of Clark bushacre’s. I’ve had them since 2018 and I’ve worn them almost everyday in my off time without any problems besides the shoe laces becoming uneven. They are the comfiest footwear I have and will continue to buy them for the foreseeable future. If anyone is looking for a boot that has the history and something that you can dress up or down, this is the boot to have.
My Clark's Chelseas definitely have a shank, and they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Weird how they don't put a shank in these, they cost the same. Then again, they are significantly better crafted, with a leather layer in the heel and the arch.
Here here....i remember being in JCPenny with my Mom buying a pair and while watching Armstrong walk on the Moon on a 'NEW Color TV' in the HI FI Audio Dept. = )
Australian made Rossi 4040 Pondie Desert Boot is now an Aussie footwear legend, after no longer being manufactured. I purchased a pair 5 years ago, just before Rossi stopped making them. They keep on keeping on. Tough, durable and very comfortable to wear.
I mean, Real Men Real Style has a video of Antonio cutting one of his old Thursday Captains pairs in half. Plus there's a shoe cobbling channel (Trenton and Heath) with a video of them separating another Thursday Captains' upper from it's sole. Just those two videos is informative enough for me regarding Thursday Boots lol
Great video! Provides consumers with a lot of clarity! I got some last year, and decided to take them back. I thought that probably after a day of wearing them I would hate them. I didn’t like the heel. I guess my intuition was right..
Back in the 60's I traveled to Africa hitchhiking , I was wearing the "Desert Boots " from Clarks, well I tell you, they didn't last long, the soles came unglued...
Clark's Desert Boots are a "thing". I am 68 years old and have owned a pair a Clark's Desert Boots since 1965. I have a pair on right now. They are what they are. Peace.
I have a won out beautiful beeswax leather pair and it excruciatingly painful to watch this! But I love the input of what I've been wearing and my experience really explained as to why the sock liner is slipped to the point I had to take it out.. but it's a beautiful pair, made me realize I needed to get a fresh pair and get rid of mine lolol... Love your content! Help me decide on my next iconic boots to cop, I'm thinking a Chelsea boot now lol thanks Weston!
Interesting about the shank, I have these in grey suede and I love them and find them to be very comfortable. The Clarks Bushcare boots which are similar are the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I’ve worn them twice and retired them.
Andrew Delashaw people were definitely asking for a premium jordan 1 and the sbb does have the best leather out of any jordan 1 so I guess it makes sense but the shoe isn’t really made for comfort
FFVoyager I’m pretty sure no one who has ever bought the shoe was disappointed in it, seriously the leather on the shoe is so plush you have to feel it. It’s the golden standard for jordan leather
I went with red wings aswell it's my favorite pair I even wore them all through winter this past year although we barely had any snow at all wich isn't normal but still.
I have two pair(black and brown) and it takes about a week to break in. Love the look and how comfortable they feel. I don't like how the black ones wear as well (look a little too shiny) as the brown pair I own. 5 stars from me!
As someone with almost flat feet and a wide toe box, they’re extremely comfortable for me even more so than tennis shoes. A nice smart casual shoe option and you just need to get them broken in, they’re uncomfortable when new before they form to your foot.
Interesting 👍 I've owned original desert boots over the years and stopped buying them because the crepe soles melt in heat and on petrol station spills! I have just bought a new pair, the sole is a much more solid plastic, and there is a full length walking boot style removable inner sole covered in decent leather. I am hopeful they will last better 🤞 . As you say the new waxed leather is much better than the old suede too.
Clarks - I have three pairs from this brand with the last ones being Jaxen Low suedes. All Made in India. From my own experience, I can say they are among the best value-for-money shoes out there. Especially when they are on sale. Have to be without some important characteristics, like type of stitch, no shank etc. But as mentioned in this video, for their general price, one can't complain too much. -- Petaling Jaya, Malaysia
I have owned a pair of these for about 2 years, and they have been in my closet for almost as long. They are just too uncomfortable to wear. I have tried getting new insoles, but it didn't help at all. They are just not for me I guess.
Wow! Wow! wow! You have just solved uno of my biggest latest frustrations! I just bought my first pair about a month ago and been struggling with the idea of a wasted 140€!!! I thought I just had to break them in and that it was going to be ok later.... my right foot is different from my left (in my case, slightly larger and wider) and I have been destroying my right foot heel, not understanding why this was happening. I even changed the insole, using a spare pair I had from running shoes. Why doesn’t Clark’s acknowledge this issues and improve their product? For the money they charge they should!!!
I would love to see a comparison to the Astorflex Greenflex. I have a few pairs of Astorflex shoes and they seem to be a significant step up from Clark’s.
I must love em, i have 5 pairs. My oldest pair is about 5yrs and still going. Though i have to admit, i took a pair same as in this video to France with me last October. Since getting back i have been experiencing arch pain. Decided to switch to Iron rangers now.
I have never had my feet inside such uncomfortable shoes. I had a pair for one day, managed to return them. I can't understand how someone can like these.

Michael Ryan hahahahaha
Rose Anvil yes I did. I was in WVC,UT hiding under my work desk.
Yeah, I was down in Pleasant Grove. I've never felt an earthquake until today. Crazy timing!
I would really like them if they had a shank. The leather was really nice though
Wearing Clarks taught me how to walk better and not drag or knock edges of my feetnand keep them straight.
@Becoming Godsize perhaps, historically. You won't catch me walking like a chicken down the streets with my friends. They might think I was artistic.
@Becoming Godsize Really i thought heel first then toe.
I have a pair. It’s a casual boot to wear if you’re going out for fun. I also have a pair of Wallabee and those are much more comfortable for everyday.
So happy for you! But, was really hoping to see a pair of Iron Rangers get cut...
Ronald McDonold he cuts em in another video.
Resolved my Clark’s after watching this. Thanks for the tips! Posted a video that shows it. I think it turned out so much better! Thanks again.
The classic Clarks Desert boot was never a walking shoe, that's the Desert Trek or Wallabee. These boots are made for lounging and liming stylee!
I love them I currently own at least 10 pair of clark's shoes (Desert Boot & Wallabees). Thank you for cutting it in half.
On behalf of Jamaica and Jamaicans all over the world...that’s our national shoes 🇯🇲🇯🇲
Facts 💯
I wore Clark’s for many years during the 80s and 90 s, and yes, they were the most comfortable walking shoes ever. I quit wearing them when manufacturing moved out of Ingland and the quality with it.
They used to be my favorite Clark's, but I since found the desert trek and wallabee shoes. They're the desert boot killer. Thicker soles, and they just feel more robust. I'd say similar quality as Blundstone, but don't feel as sturdy. But I recommend Wallabees, I wear mine with a thick insole so they don't fall off.
So which one of these would you say is your 1st pick
ua-cam.com/video/Cl7H1fJ-OsA/v-deo.html
To each their own....Wallabees are ankle destroyers. The point of desert boots is that they are simple go with anything footwear (especially the suede) The thinner sole means you can dress it up, a thicker sole doesn't allow this as it has a more casual look.
I happen to have a pair of these shoes. Initially, they were very uncomfortable. But, they were also very narrow, since I had to go down half a size. Once I got through that, they are the most comfortable shoes ever!! And because they're lightweight, it sometimes feel as if I'm not even wearing shoes.
My man, i've been waiting for this! Thanks!
JIM GREEN chelsea boot should be on your list of boots to review, thanks for awesome reviews.
Great idea! Jim Green will be available on Amazon USA in a few weeks so keep an eye out for them there if you US based
It hurts my soul to see perfectly good leather cut like that ,but I do appreciate the insight that comes from it , keep up the good work
My Clark's Chelseas definitely have a shank, and they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Weird how they don't put a shank in these, they cost the same.
Then again, they are significantly better crafted, with a leather layer in the heel and the arch.
im from Australia and love you cutting up aussie boots, I think an iconic boot for me is Rossi ripple sole. highly recommend you look into these
I wore Clarks Desert Boots for a lot of my teenage years (back in the 70's)
Here here....i remember being in JCPenny with my Mom buying a pair and while watching Armstrong walk on the Moon on a 'NEW Color TV' in the HI FI Audio Dept. = )
Me too. I wore mine to high school everyday with pin cord jeans and an exacto hoody
Been watching ya since 20k subs! Super cool your growing like this love your videos!
I have the auto generated caption on and it keeps popping up “cutting the soul.” Ouch!
I just bought those boots. So far I love them. Great prepper boot no reflectors
I paid 32$ Clark outlet had black Friday 60%off
I bought Johnston and Murphy. Took my Clark's to the Goodwill. Happy feet.
I have two of those in suede and I really wanted that particular one because it looks glorious when worn and beaten up.
Please do a video on the Wolverine blvd. It’s a $200 boots made for compete with boots like Thursday boots. Might be interesting
Australian made Rossi 4040 Pondie Desert Boot is now an Aussie footwear legend, after no longer being manufactured. I purchased a pair 5 years ago, just before Rossi stopped making them. They keep on keeping on. Tough, durable and very comfortable to wear.
Can you possibly do a review on Thursday boots?
I mean, Real Men Real Style has a video of Antonio cutting one of his old Thursday Captains pairs in half.
Plus there's a shoe cobbling channel (Trenton and Heath) with a video of them separating another Thursday Captains' upper from it's sole.
Just those two videos is informative enough for me regarding Thursday Boots lol
@@cyvycymusic1096 He just cut a pair of Thursday sneakers in half. Not the same, but like you said there are other videos to watch on that :)
Great video! Provides consumers with a lot of clarity! I got some last year, and decided to take them back. I thought that probably after a day of wearing them I would hate them. I didn’t like the heel. I guess my intuition was right..
Waiting on that red wing classic moc cut in half 👀
Yes, yes!! I'm waiting for that one aswell.....
Finally got my first pair of Clark Chukkas with leather upper. Need to know how to take care of them.
Back in the 60's I traveled to Africa hitchhiking , I was wearing the "Desert Boots " from Clarks, well I tell you, they didn't last long, the soles came unglued...
Because it's a fake
@@seanashley3571 hmm, In theses days, China only export was the little red book from Mao haha!
An original Clark's you can get at least 2 years worth of hard wearing bt if it's like special occasions that baby can go for years an years
they still don't last long nowadays, especially the soles
@@seanashley3571 what "hard use" are you putting yours through?
Clark's Desert Boots are a "thing". I am 68 years old and have owned a pair a Clark's Desert Boots since 1965. I have a pair on right now. They are what they are. Peace.
Great review. It looks Clark make a ton of money on every pair they sell. I've thought about buying these in the past I'm glad I didn't.
6:13 it would be cool to cut a Clark Desert Trek in half like that. They have a seam right down the middle!
I've had the same pair for 5 years. They are super comfortable and durable. Love the crepe soles. The secret is to size down 1.5.
Nearly had a heart attack watching you desecrate that Clark's like that bruv! 🇯🇲
Why? They are trash 🗑️
@@bye92 One man's trash is another man's treasure. Don't disrespect someone else's style just because you don't like it.
Same! I bring Nough Clarke’s every time I visit JA as we have an Outlet here from £120 to £60🇬🇧
Interesting about the shank, I have these in grey suede and I love them and find them to be very comfortable. The Clarks Bushcare boots which are similar are the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I’ve worn them twice and retired them.
He’s gonna be so disappointed when he cuts those sbbs for 100k and finds out there is literally nothing in it besides rubber and an air unit
Not as much as the buyers who are blind to the logo.
I still don't know why he's doing those. I checked the videos prior to him announcing that he was going to do that shoe, and no one asked for it.
@@jasonclark2636 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
love em - had many pairs over the years !! Comfortable and classic !
I tried two pairs, neither fit me right and within months of sporadic use they both failed me. Went with some Redwings and no complaints in 3 years.
Bombobloodclaat‼️‼️‼️ what on earth could have caused all this violation I’m beyond broken💔💔💔💔🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
As someone with almost flat feet and a wide toe box, they’re extremely comfortable for me even more so than tennis shoes. A nice smart casual shoe option and you just need to get them broken in, they’re uncomfortable when new before they form to your foot.
Clarks Bushacre 2 boots.
Exactly the same but it has a sturdy, brown, rubber sole.
And half the price of the Clarks Desert boot.
It's the cheaper version... bushacre's are rubber sole and desert boot is crepe sole.👍
I've got a pair of those... explains why they are so uncomfortable.
They are just not for me I guess.
you know you gotta break leather shoes in right?
@@tayk-47usa41 Yeah, of course. I wore them several months, but it didn't help.
Wasteland Ranger they also look like garbage to me ngl. Red wings looks 10x better
TayK-47USA di ever say that if you go to Jamaica
TayK-47USA man these are cool as hell! Don’t diss the Clarks DB.
Wow! Wow!
Clark's has closed their last UK factory. Most leather goods being outsourced to India, no more Made in England.
Not happy about that.
Globalisation went too far.
Hope that Corona mess will stop this a little bit.
P H America has done the same. Even Trumps MAGA ( make America great again) hats are made in China. How ironic, huh?
But youd be ok if they were made in Japan right?
Buy made in italy Astorflex instead. You wont regret it !
I would love to see a comparison to the Astorflex Greenflex. I have a few pairs of Astorflex shoes and they seem to be a significant step up from Clark’s.
Never thought I would cringe and a tingly shock run through knowing what was coming. That first cut 🥶 got my Jamaican sense revolting
thank you man... you videos are helping me in making better choices

Love Clark’s that hurt my soul
Thanks for explaining the pull up leather. I have been looking for how it’s called for some time already.
I have never had my feet inside such uncomfortable shoes. I had a pair for one day, managed to return them. I can't understand how someone can like these.
