Sounds like from Britpop era / early 2000s
kind of sounds like transdermal celebration from ween, not to take away from this song.
Because there are hints of Joni and Chrissie Hyde, the acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies are straight out of Laurel Canyon and the whole thing sounds like hitting the road.
This has to be the most under appreciated and exposed song of all time. This should have millions upon millions of views for her voice alone, let alone the beautiful musical arrangement and lyricism. Truly top of the food chain music. Confident in what it wants to be without being to obvious, accessible yet original, musical perfection in this Ethans humble opinion.

Why does this music take me right back to the very best of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s music, and all of life’s experiences that left such an impression on a young mind. Her sound blows me away.

A number of people here dont know the finer differences between 1960's & 1970's music.
it's that open D tuning - a favourite of Joni Mitchell, Hendrix, and others. Marling's tuned that last E string down to Db too, gives it a nice 90s nostalgic air

I love this song. It seems written by Laura Nyro, with the same "soul" intention. But all Song for our daughter is a great album. Each song's arrangement is perfectly calibrated on lyrics' emotional tone. I'm in love.

This girl should be a global superstar. That voice! On this track it's just gorgeous - as is she, and she's also a genius songwriter. The likes of Cardi B and Megan thee Headless Horseman (or something like that) are rated as "great artists" by some quarters of the music industry, yet neither has any talent whatsoever. Laura is a throwback to early 70s Joni Mitchell (obviously) Carly Simon, Carol King, Dory Previn etc, which was a great era. The only truly talented female pop star today is Taylor Swift (who's 31 like Laura), and her last two albums have been acoustic, folk music, in a similar vein to those artists, and many critics say its the best stuff she's ever done. Still not a patch on Laura!
