Shrek 2 Soundtrack 14. Jennifer Saunders - Holding Out For a Hero

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night i toss and i turn and i dream of what I need
(Chorus)
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life(larger than life)
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood(like a fire in my blood x4)
hero
i need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
and he's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
hero
oh I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
i need a hero

@@VengefulJay Right? Now that I know a little bit more about cinematography than I did while being a 7 year old I really started appreciating that particular scene and movie as a whole. The work on this piece of art was really exquisite.
The Fairy Godmother is one of the best antagonists I have ever seen. She is very different compared to most villains. The Fairy Godmother is a hero in Cinderella, but she is pure evil in this movie. She does not have an evil castle or lair to torture her enemies. She uses her magical powers to do that. She does not have an ugly physical appearance like most villains do. Plus, she sings throughout the movie, and I can't think of many villains who are known for singing.
I agree until the end. Most Disney villains have their own iconic theme they sing

Also, can we all just take a moment to comprehend how actually competent the castle guards are at their job? They prepared for every eventuality, including giant cookie attacks (warm milk wouldn't do much to anything else), and with the exception of the Puss scene, their combat strategy is spot-on, such as forming lines to keep out the intruders instead of just rushing in head-on.
However I don't think it can be written off how terrible the puss scene was. The 5 armored knights who should have been training from childhood, (or if they aren't actual knights and just elite soldiers than from their early adulthood) and they got beat by a damn cat.
Additionally, you can't catch a guy on horseback with a sword. He just has too much speed and momentum for a relatively small weapon. They should have had polearms, crossbows, or at least spears.
And of course, none of them seem to be wearing any mail or padding under their armor, leaving their joints, particularly the neck, exposed and making it much less comfortable to move around in.
Overall, while they at least held some baseline level of mindfulness, they are still surprisingly incompetent soldiers to be manning the capital's castle
The Puss scene WASN'T terribly written though. They let their guard down because they thought he was just some cute harmless kitty, and he took advantage of that. The scene also perfectly illustrates exactly how he got everything he wanted, the sad kitten act being shown to essentially give him control over any situation, and even played on the unpredictability of actual cat behaviour, which just makes it even better IMO. Additionally, you have to remember he's not JUST a cat, he's a cat who fights like friggin' Zorro and gained notoriety as someone who kills things several times his own size. And as a matter of fact, Puss may not have originally won--an earlier draft of the script had him not seen again after that, implying his potential death, but like Gingy originally dying trying to save Mongo, that was deemed too upsetting and written out.

@@annikaasplund3694 Can I just appreciate this musical conversation? lol
Shrek 2 is the most perfect sequel in all of cinematic history. It expands the world with someone behind everything since the first movie, its conflict is organic as Shrek doesn't feel worthy for Fiona because society can't accept him and therefore changes himself so that it will, and it leaves an undeniable impact on the whole quadrilogy. Actually scratch that, Shrek the Third doesn't exist and it's just 1, 2, and 4. So trilogy.

1:43 Since this moment the song goes thru a few build-ups, adding that sense of epicness
The execution blows me away, it's so hard to keep raising the energy in a song like this without making it be too hard on the ear
Not sure if you play any instrument, but if you ever needed help with figuring the small orchestral part, it goes like this:
g-minor (6/3)
to
D-Major(6/4)
to
g-minor again(6/4)
to
D-Major again(5/3)
to
B-Flat Major(6/4)
to
E-Flat Major(6/3)
to
D-Major(6/3)
Also, the progressions only go upwards. In case you knew that, hope someone else finds it useful !
Whoever’s idea it was to remove this from Spotify needs to learn the mistake they made
" Put it in C minor"
*puts it in G minor"
That has always bothered me.
+Nathan Siegel this is why music class is important
+LOLZ OF DOOM (LOL Shroomz TV [Oracle]) no it's minor sorry
Perfect pitch problems I relate to the pain
I thought she said E Minor
There is one singular flaw with this track: the fact that the soundtrack release version (the one in this video) is missing one _crucial_ aspect that ties the whole thing together.
*_”HIT IT!”_*
Yes! My mom was sad when I finally managed to track this song down years ago for her CD in her car and it didn't have that.
Another flaw: This is not on Spotify for whatever reason

Oh, right. The aspect. The aspect for this song, the aspect chosen especially for this comment, this song's aspect.
@@understu”…that aspect?”
I immediately thought of this version when I saw the Mario movie
same here and he keeps failing the course lol
Mongo: *Lets out a tyrannical roar of enraged fury for his forever long lost gum drop button and kicks it towards back at the catapults destroying it*
"Be good"~Mongo the hero we needed but don't deserve.
R.i.p.Shall he rest in cookie crumbs 2004-2004
_"Beee Goooood"_ ;-: Okay Mongo... I'll be good, I do it for you....
He ain't dead tho, he's still singing in living a vida loca
Saddest anime death
@@BobSmith-cg2ek Have you ever tried to get a soggy cookie out of a glass of milk? He's dead, he just hasn't died yet.
"More heat, less foam!"
I usually hate “lol they’re not actually dead” plot lines but I want another shrek movie with Jennifer Saunders revealed as the villain at the end.
Would have been a better ploy for Shrek 3. Pretty boy wants his mummy back.
Like, Fairy Godmother or Jennifer herself?
"Somehow, Fairy Godmother has returned"
They're rebooting Shrek so she could be in the new movie
@@KaytheWooper I don't understand why they're doing that it completely ruins the happy ending Shrek got at the end of 4. JUST LET IT DIE PEACEFULLY!! 😑🙄
