Joe: So valuable --- never thought about it this way, but a great guide to working within the pocket of the key you're in and avoiding the simple slide five or seven frets to get the 4 and 5 chords. A great way to spend some woodshedding time! Thanks.
Everyone is different but I really like your teaching style and you have had a positive effect on my journey through music, not just dobro. Have a great new year.
This is really good for me. I just need to sit down and work on it. Do you have any lessons by chance that cover playing D chord, out of G tuning. I really need to learns some good stuff on that too. A lot of my friends sing out of D and E. I need some help on that, lol. Thanks
Thanks! I need to add more on playing in D. Learning the D major scale in the open position is helpful. Also, you can play a D chord by barring the 2nd fret on the 3rd string (angled bar) and playing the 1st and 4th strings open. I use that all the time. Then you can capo on the 2nd fret for E, although there's some great stuff in the open position for E too, especially for E blues and E minor.
Hey AJ... For the most part, I use 2 note minor chords, although there are some useful full minor chords using combinations of barred and open strings. Also, remember that our job is not typically to strum chords, so we can use 1 or 2 notes to get what we need. All that being said, here's my overview on how to deal with minor chords... dobrojoe.com/minor_chords.html
