    Timestamps+Explanations
3:12 Counter starts. This counter goes up every time a new species of Pokémon is shown and takes up a slot in the National Dex. Evolutions count as Charmander is #0004 and Charizard is #0006.
2:13 Pokémon will not be listed in National Dex order (release order) but rather grouping all Pokémon into their encounter categories starting with the starter Pokémon. All Pokémon are presented first in their original game’s art style and this is a slideshow of all of the first form starters from gens 1-8, equaling 24.
2:20 Pikachu encountered! As the mascot it gets an early shout here. Cool fact, Pikachu’s dex number in the Kanto Games and National Dex is 25. I do not think they repeat this trend outside of the Kanto starters.
2:27 The trend of “small route 1 mammalian Pokémon.” An easy to catch early game normal type. Interestingly Gen 8 has two of these, Wooloo and Skwovet, the sheep and squirrel in the bottom right.
2:28 Semi-early game miscellaneous grass encounters to 2:31 mid-ish game miscellaneous grass encounters
2:04 - 2:35 Regional Birds grouped together. Much like the small mammals, these are early game and usually simple. The term regional mammal and bird is a fan term due to the noticeable pattern of new Pokémon across games.
2:36 Regional Bugs as well, though this part gets fuzzy as many of him are encountered in the early game but not in the first accessible area.
    2:38 Forest encounters.
    2:41 Tree Shaking encounters.
2:46 a Horde Battle consisting of Trees (Trevenant.) Horde battles were a thing where 5 Pokémon would appear at once and would attack, Trevenant being used here because it’s funny.
2:48 I’m not exactly sure what this is meant to represent. Noibat, Ducklett, and Swanna in a cave? Uncertain.
2:51 Rock Smashing encounters that pop out of stones you bust open.
2:55 Every Pokémon you can find in a cave across the series
    3:01 Fishing encounters.
3:05 In Gen 7 Pokémon could call for assistance in battle if they were struggling. In this case, Mareanie appears not to help the Corsola, but to eat it as its natural predator. Mareanie in Gen 7 can only be encountered via this mechanic.
3:10 Pokémon encountered while surfing across water.
3:15 Feebas originally could only be found on randomized specific single tiles of water. New games don’t do that.
    3:17 Pokémon encountered via Diving.
    3:19 Desert Pokémon
    3:21 Volcanic encounters
    3:23 Snowy area encounters
3:25 Pokémon found in old ruins
3:27 Pokémon encountered in or near graveyards
3:28 Pokémon found near water (Unsure)
3:29 Pokémon found inside more structures
3:30 Just a whole ton of random stuff they forgot I guess
    3:32 Ditto becomes a Jigglypuff
3:35 Snorlax, the first Static Encounter who just sits in the overworld, followed by all the others who just sit in the overworld.
3:45 Fake Overworld Pokeball encounters, including Voltorb, Foonguss, and Galarian Stunfisk. Essentially Pokémon’s chest mimics.
3:51 Safari Zone encounters. The Safari Zone doesn’t really appear in later games anymore.
3:55 All of the Fossil Pokémon, revived from old bones, including the jacked up mismatched ones from Gen 8 at the end.
4:00 Pokémon gifted to you by NPCs
4:07 Baby Pokémon. Originally only obtainable through eggs and breeding, they stopped making these after the 4 minus Toxel in Gen 8 who just exists and isn’t breeding required. Since Gen 5-9, most if not all babies can be found in the wild.
4:10 Pokémon that are versions exclusives and can only be encountered if you buy the right game. Red/Green (or Red/Blue outside of Japan), Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl, Black/White, X/Y, Sun/Moon, Sword/Shield
4:21 Encounters done, Pokémon will now be shown through Evolutions! Starting with the Starter Evolutions. Yes, each evo stage gets its own number. This is followed by Pokémon who evolve through level up.
4:41 Trade Evolutions, where Pokémon only evolve through trading with another human person or NPC.
4:52 Pokémon who evolve by being exposed to a Stone.
4:56 Look, I’m in the top part!
4:57 This is Snom, an ice caterpillar from Gen 8 people like cause it’s cute. It evolves via Friendship and Happiness at Nighttime. This is followed by all the Pokémon who evolve via friendship but not at night time.
5:02 Pokémon who evolve while knowing a specific Move.
5:07 Inkay! A squid who evolves only if you flip your device upside down. (3DS, Mobile Phone, Nintendo Switch)
5:10 Pokémon who evolve via oddly specific methods. From left to right in reading order, Feebas needs prettiness, Galarian Yamask needs to take 49 damage and be brought to a certain rock, Nincada needs an extra empty slot in your party to discard its shell, Magneton and Nosepass need magnetically charged locations until Gen 8-9 where a Thunder Stone works, Sliggoo needs it to rain, Pancham needs to have a Dark Pokémon in the team in order to learn underhanded tactics, Crabrawler needs to travel to an ice mountain or use an ice stone, Galarian Farfetch’d needs to land 5 Critical Hits in one battle, and Gligar and Sneasel evolve when holding specific items and levelling up at night.
5:12 Eevee and its 8 evolutions, each one habing a different method until Gen 8 where most of them can be evolved via the elemental Stones minus Sylveon and I think Umbreon and Espeon who all need Friendship and either a time of day or a Fairy move in Sylveon’s case. Ron’s of people love Eevee and it’s evolutions so them going from OG style to modern 3D is cute.
5:18 Split evolutions! Some Pokémon can split into different Pokémon depending on evolutions method and other variables. Some count as new species, some are just different forms and take up the same number slot as the other forms. The top right Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmontop take up three slots while the left Lycanroc Midday, Dusk, and Midnight take up one as they’re the same genetic animal.
5:21 Toxel evolving into Toxtricity Amped Up or Toxtricity Low Key is one of the more popular split evos. It evolves different based on its Personality or Nature.
5:22 ish. Split evolutions based on Gender.
5:25 Not gender, or evolutions, just Pokémon with extra forms such as Oricorio who can do four different dances and change types. This is followed by all the Pokémon who have different forms, but do not split via evolution and remain consistent the whole line through. Remember, forms do not equal extra numbers (thank god)
5:30 Sinistea and Polteageist have a rare for, where they have this seal of realness on their bottoms. You basically never see it in-game but it’s funny.
5:31 Rotom and its five different possessed appliance forms, because it’s an electric ghost that haunts stuff.
5:33 the different colours of Flabebe’s line’s flowers.
5:34 the different ways to groom your Furfrou, poodle.
5:35 Minior cracking open its shell to reveal its internal core
5:38 Vivillion who have different wing patterns based on what country you’re in
5:39 The Alphabet, Unown added in Gen 2. The ? And ! were added in Gen 3.
5:42 Based on what toppings you put on your Milcery and how you spin, Alcremie will come out as a different flavour depending on the direction you rotated, time of day, and how long you spun for.
5:44 Spinda gets a randomized spot pattern resulting in over a billion possible “forms”
    *More active battle forms!*
5:48 Castform who changes type depending on the Weather in battle due to its ability followed by a bunch of other Pokémon who change forms thanks to their abilities.
5:53 now we get cool. Regional Variants were introduced in Gen 7 and are essentially Subspecies of older Pokémon. In Gen 7 only Kanto Pokémon got “Alolan Forms” where they got a type change, new moves, and new adaptations to survive in their new environments (Pokémon Hawaii) like the increased sunlight turning Exeggutor into a palm tree. Regional variants do not take up slots, however,
6:05 the Galarian Regional Variants, native to the Galar region which is based on the UK. The Galarian forms such as Stunfisk and Ponyta don’t take up Nat Dex slots, but the new Regional evolutions do, 6:11 Galarian Linoone evolving into Obstagoon, a never before seen unique Pokémon alongside others like Cursola and Sirfetch’d who only evolve from the Galarian forms of these Pokémon. Plus they cover more regions than just Kanto now.
6:17 Pokémon Legends Arceus takes place in Hisui, which is Sinnoh 100-300 years in the past (Diamond and Pearl area.) unlike Galar which has regional variants of gens 1-3 Pokémon, Hisui had Pokémon ranging from gens 1-7 with brand new forms and regional evolutions, the latter of which take up new Nat dex slots just as they did before.
6:26 Hisuian variants of old starter Pokémon from gens 7, 2, and 5 are shown here.

For the record, they're not recycled designs cause those are basically the same pokémon, just a different form.

Timestamps part 2, find part 1 first please thank you
6:28 Ultra Beasts. Inter-dimensional aliens from alternate universes, introduced in Gen 7 as a threat to the islands. They’re weird, nearly incomprehensible, and very strong.
6:44 Legendary Pokémon. They vary in rarity and power, no real consistency, they’re just cool. Each legendary is shown in their original game followed by their recent most important appearance, usually remakes/remasters. They’re in numerical order until they add on extra members to old established groups, in which new members are moved backwards to sit with their groups such as the Regis.
    6:45 Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres
6:47 Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres
    6:48 Mewtwo
    6:50 Raikou, Entei, and Suicune
    6:53 Lugia and Ho-oh
6:56 Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. Regieleki and Regidrago. Regigigas
    6:59 Latias and Latios
7:01 Kyogre and Groudon and Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon
    7:03 Rayqauza and Mega Rayquaza
7:05 Deoxys, who formerly was a Mythical but is now Legendsry I guess
    7:07 Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf
7:09 Heatran and Cresselia, no correlation
7:10 Dialga and Palkia and Origin Dialga and Origin Palkia. Then followed by Giratina and Origin Giratina.
    7:15 Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion
7:16 Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus and their newly added Enamorus followed by their Therian Forms at 7:18
    7:19 Reshiram and Zekrom
7:21 Kyurem followed by Kyurem White and Kyurem Black
    7:23 Xerneas and Yveltal
    7:24 Zygarde 10%, 50% and Zygarde 100% Complete Form
7:27 Type: Null evolving into Silvally and its 18 type variants
7:29 Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Fini
7:30 Cosmog, Cosmoem, and then evolving into either Solgaleo or Lunala
7:34 Necrozma, Duskmane Necrozma, Dawnwings Necrozma, and Ultra Necrozma
7:40 Zacian and Zamazenta, Heroes of many battles. Followed by Zacian and Zamazenta Crowned.
    7:42 Eternatus and Eternamax Eternatus
7:45 Kubfu, both Single Strike and Rapid Strike Urshifu, and both of their Gigantamax Forms
    7:47 Glastrier and Spectrier
7:48 Calyrex followed by Calyrex Ice Rider or Shadow Rider
7:51 Arceus and its 18 typed forms, the literal GOD of the Pokémon universe, was Mythical, now its status is debated
7:55 All of the Mythical Pokémon who are event exclusive barring Deoxys, Arceus, and Keldeo but no one cares about Keldeo. Ending on Mew, the original final Pokémon, #151.
Then it goes, surprise! Here’s all of Scarlet and Violet’s new Pokémon! This was important because they’re new, but a,so because this gave us the actual correct national dex order for these new guys!
9:31 The start of the Paradox Pokémon. Old Pokémon turned weird due to timey wimey stuff, now resembling dinosaurs or robots depending on which game you buy. They do not evolve from the old pokemkn they’re based on and have stats comparable to Legendaries. Their names are also just two works, like Great Tusk, Scream Tail, Iron Treads, Iron Bundle, etc.
9:42 Frigibax, Arctibax, and Baxcalibur, not Paradoxes or legendaries just extra strong Pokémon like Dragonite to pad out the dex until,
9:48 Gimmighoul, not a legendsry, but you need to collect 999 Gimmighoul coins to evolve it into Gholdengo. Pokémon #1000. A literal golden statue trophy as this grand achievement for the franchise, and he’s silly and I love him.
    10:09 Four legendaries, Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, Chi-Yu
10:17 the at the time strongest Paradoxes, Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant
10:22 the box art Legendaries of Scarlet and Violet who are also Paradoxes simultaneously, Koraidon and Miraidon.
1008 Pokémon. Which funnily enough was made outdated 2 ish weeks later when they revealed two extra legendsry paradoxes in Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. This is then followed by the Scarlet Violet DLC which is cut in two halves, the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk. Teal Mask already released with Indigo Disk on the way. With the Teal Mask, we have hit 1017 Pokémon with at minimum 4-7 more on the way.
I love this series so much, and while the actual games are middling to bad in quality, the Pokémon them selves always shine and all of them are excellent to somebody out there.

As a longtime fan of Pokémon from the beginning all the way to the present, this video was nothing short of sweet, sweet pleasure and nostalgia. Pokémon has had many ups and downs in terms of quality, but it’s been a great ride to be on the whole way through. Great reaction! ❤
