I've used elastic thread in the bobbin, and it works so well if you want to gather something. Instead of using 2 rows of straight stitches and then pulling the thread to gather, just use elastic thread in the bobbin.

Luca it will make the pants a little stiffer but I recommend using a non-stretch jean for this thrift flip. The golden medium help make the paint more elasticity so it shouldn’t crack and fall off. I use a bias maker to make a strip of bias, then I fold it in half and stitch. Easiest way to make straps.
