One thing I love about the Georgians. When it comes to functions and special "Supras", the whole family helps. It is not just a woman's task. The two young men in the video are the sons of the lady we see folding the Khinkali. They in their late 20's and they helped in the kitchen. Special I think.
Ive had this khinkali at various places and it was never great as the fillings were always kind of yucky - was not my favorite Georgian dish. I did however like the cheese ones as those tasted OK depending where you get them. Then when having these, I was pleasantly surprised as the filling was really really good. I think I ate ten on my own...! Some of the other goodies on the table were an "acquired" taste and really strange to me, but I tried them all the same. It was fun, but I had to keep a eye open as every ten seconds there was a toast going on at the other end of the table and unexpectedly there was even a special toast to us foreigners at the table. The hospitality we received was very genuine and wonderful. Lekker mun Lekker.
I have to say, the first time we tried Khinkali, we hated it. It turned out that the first ones we tasted where off. Second time, we love it. One of my favourite Georgian dishes. Great with a cold beer.
The lady at around 6:30 pleats the khinkali so efficiently. It's a joy to watch!
I like how the whole family helps to make it.
