Congratulations on the new home Hans. I wish you and your family well this new year. Also, thank you for your videos. This was a useful one which I’m sure some will find very helpful. I switched my layout to its own router and had some “fun” getting my IoTT sticks to all connect to it. This video will help if I ever do it again.
Hi Hans - what do I need to do the speed matching you demonstrated in your previous videos? Do I need only the following? IoTT Stick / IoTT Stick Plus2 and PurpleHat Mini Track Measuring Kit? Thanks
You need a PurpleHat kit and a Stick. On your end you need a car to install the kit on and a digital command control system that can receive Loconet or WiThrottle commands, e.g. via JMRI, which has servers for both protocols. That's it.
Right now, I only have some of the original Stick C available. M5Stack has changed the design and the Stick C and Stick C Plus are discontinued. The new product is the M5 Stick Plus2 with some differences in the hardware. I am currently working to make the software compatible with it. I have a few Plus2's here and they will go in the shop as soon as I have the software ready.
I’ve replaced the router and I can’t connect the stick to the new network. I get to initial setup screen (4 blue buttons), input the network credentials and then device times out. How much time do I have to input the SSID and password?
By initial setup screen I assume you mean the captive portal on the smart phone? The timeout on that is about 2 minutes. You can also try to let it sit until it switches in AP mode and then do a reset of the Wifi settings. Also make sure you pick the correct AP from the list and enter the password correct. Furthermore it helps if the Stick is relatively close to the router so that it has a strong signal.
I always have trouble setting up the WIFI credentails. If I use my phone to connect to the WiFi New_IoTT_Stick_M5_ etc. It shows the network in the available networks list. I then select the network New_IoTT_Stick_M5_ etc and it shows connecting. It then states checking the quility of the internet connection and then connects and then it switches back to my normal WiFi network. If I use my PC I connect and it states it will not connect. I have reset the stick several times but seems to make no difference. I have spend over two hours and still can get it to display the captive portal. What am I doing wrong? I already have 4 Stick set up some time ago but then it was also similar to this being very difficult to set up.
The captive portal does not really work with the PC browser, it is best used from a smart phone. Phones have the tendency to change the access point if they get a better signal somewhere else. What you can try is to configure your phone to not automatically connect to your standard AP while you are connecting the Stick to the AP. You can do that by disabling the auto connect check box for the default AP in your wifi settings AP list.
@@IoTT Thanks Hans but my phone will not connect. I have a Samsung A13 which seem to be very slow is scanning the available WiFi networks. Then as I said before it tries to connect but by which time the stick has created it's own access point. I then tried an old phone which will connect but doesn't come up with the captive portal. How do I connect to the captive portal if I don't get any notification box up when I connect? I am using the new Plus2 Sticks which has been programmed with the M5UpdatePlus2 and I have tried two of them with the same result. I did try loading the non Plus2 code and it connected and came up with the notification box but when I touched it a message was shown saying no web page. I am at a loss to why this will not work.
@@davidtwist3659 Some phones take a little longer to detect the stick. In the latest software version I have therefore increased the timeout to 4 minutes before it sets up its own AP. What I also noticed is that sometimes it is better to walk a few meters away from the Stick when doing the wifi setup.
@@IoTT Hans thank you for the reply. I reprogrammed the M5StickC Plus2 again and removed the network from the phone. Placed the stick on a long power lead to remove it away from the computer noise. I did manage to get connected and I got the notification. I clicked the notification and I got the message Web Page not available. I reprogrammed another Stick Plus 2 and I got the same Web Page not available message.
Hans, I have an update. I managed to set up the WiFi by using an older version of the Stick software and then setting up the WiFi with no issue. Then I reprogrammed it to the latest and for the Plus2 Stick. It would look like there is something wrong with setup web page on the latest version.

Thank you. Yes, it helps if you know how to click...
Hi Hans and thanks for all you are doing. Good luck with the downsizing, going through a similar thing here but we've not found the next house yet!
Thank you!
Thanks and good luck on the move.
Thank you!

Any idea when the stick will be back in stock?
