How to Split Altissimo G on Tenor Saxophone
Вставка

- Getting that high (altissimo) G to pop on tenor saxophone is a hurdle. Until you get it. Once you do, you may want to get that "split" sound. Here's how I do it.

Thanks a Zillion!
Just now noticed the "Out Of The Loop" disk on the desk! I just love Brecker
oh now i noticed it too!
absolutely man
its an incredible album as well
“High School tone” Love that term! lol
I waited until college to pick up the sax just to avoid that!
Just depends on the high schooler I guess lol
Thanks for a great video. Have been working with my students on high G and your expanation was great. Thanks for the reinforcement.
this video is how I discovered Bob Reynolds music. 5 years ago. now im like the biggest fan lol
P Mauriat system 76 2nd edition tenor! Your choice of this tenor as my guidance to pick the same horn my self. And I'm truly glad i did it. You are awesome!
Bob is a great artist who cherishes a fan!!
Very cool. I appreciate that.
Gonna have to practice this. You've got an awesome tone man!
Thanks. It's a hard rubber Otto Link. Store bought, no refacing. Nothing fancy. Played it for 17 years and counting.
"La la la-la la la"...
I love it - with the (human-like) split tone.
Still working to achieve it.
Thanks, Bob.
Nice! I made an altissimo book from yours and Sir Valor's fingerings. Very helpful!
nice bob! i dont even play sax but i love listening to you speak about music
Great Bob!!!!!
Great explanation.
You're great man. Love listening to you play and I don't even play a horn.
Nice split G. For a really stable, clear G3: LH 1 (B key) RH side Bb side F alt
Thank you. I don't even know what a "referenced slant" is. I bought this Link from Rayburn Music in Boston in the late 90s and have used it ever since. It is just a stock piece. (If you saw that video you know it's not the piece, but the work/time you put into it.)
Nice!
bravo!!
Muito bom.....
Thanks! I can crack/split the altissimo. Does the same concept apply for notes above the g? Or some kind of fingering?
If/when it happens I'll email my newsletter about it. Make sure you're on that (click "Updates" on my website).
Saxophones are fascinating.
Hi Bob, Thanks for this video! Please, can you show how to split altissimo G #, A, A#, B and C?? I don't see video about that.
Thanks a lot.
Eric G.
Hi Josh. I wish, but no plans currently. Was there in March/April and would love to go back but might need an agent to help out. It was a high wire act with several clubs cancelling on us just weeks before the tour.
I'm going to sit in with Jonah Smith at the Charlie Hunter show at Bombay Bicycle Club on Nov 3. May also be joining Jim Oatts' big band on Monday the 5th. Not confirmed yet.
Oh man! I'm playing with Jim's band on the 5th, you gotta come and sit in!
"High school tone" LOL! Love your playing and vids Bob!
thanks :)
do you use a refaced slant? I saw your video discussing about mouthpieces, though. Your tone is my favorite one.
Hi Bob! Are you coming to England anytime soon?
So holy crap at about 3:15 you start talking about the high school tone. Well I'm in high school and this is exactly what's happening! I get that airy multiphonic sort of sound and then it'll squeak up to the high D (I'm very good at getting the high notes now though btw ;D). So how do I fix it?
Bob I am so psyched for you to be coming to Des Moines in a few weeks. Are you playing anywhere or just doing the clinic?
Don't know Jim (or if he's even heard of this). A friend in town was hoping to set that up. Still waiting to hear.
Valeu
hey! I was wondering how much the hard rubber Otto Link was? I saw a few for 100 in change, but I thought that it was on the cheap side. But, it could be the one. Thanks!
Here's a question. When I play regular altissimo g with the Bb, I get a split no matter what, even if I adjust to altissimo range. Any way to get it clear when I don't want it split?
Also, what size in the Otto link? Thanks again
can altissimo G be played by using the original G key above the B key and the little Bb key alternative one??
speaking of altissimo.. for my altissomo G i play one and three on top hand and 3 on bottom which its hard to make runs .. the fork and b flat key doesn't work on my horn it makes the F sharp sound.. do you know any other fingerings for an easier G and also G Sharp
I'm still kind of new to tenor... is the 4th deaf key the key at the top of your left hand that you don't originally place your fingers on? The one right above the "B" key? I've never head it's name before. Also, which palm key was that on the top? It looks like the top on but I can't tell. :)
Poor me and my high school tone, I've only been playing a year. :)
Hey, can you please tell me what does the "High School tone" mean? I don't understand. Thanks!
When I play that note I can something in the high E high F range but definitely no high G. I'm trying to learn this song in the hopes that it will get me over my altissimo "mental blockage".
Hi, i'm trying to do everything you said on this video for two months and i don't succeeding, Is there other way to reach the High G? Or can you give me another tip to reach it? cause i need this note... pls
Does anyone else use the F activator and low Bobbi key for Alt. G? I've yet to see anything on it and didn't know if anyone else used it...
Hey, what kind of studio monitors are those in the background?
Otto Link #9.
What sax are you playing?
What horn are you using?
Nice sound. What horn and Mouthpiece combo? Mouthpiece looks like a theo Wanne. Thanks for the nice vid.
MARKLINMAN1 Mouthpiece is an Otto Link hard rubber #9, if I'm not mistaken. Not sure about the sax.

Where is the neck strap from?
DeJaques
what mouthpiece are you using?
Otto link ebonite vintage
Cool. Good to know. It's nerve-wracking to put a video of me talking on UA-cam. You think it's bad hearing your own voice on the answering machine... this is another level.
Thanks for your response!! I was just wondering if your mpc had been refaced. Yeah, only practicing can improve me... maybe I should stop thinking of gears and lock up myself in a room with a bunch of canned foods for 6 month, and then I could be better than you.....haha
Thank you so much for your reply. You're my favourite saxophonist. I'd love to see you here in England. Would you please let me know if you're planning to come over here? My twitter is @joshjgrant and I also post cover songs on here so i'm on here quite a bit!
That note always sounds like someone starting to sing in falsetto, the voice doesn't quite make it.
30+ years, I still can't get altissimo G...and my intonation is really poor much above palm key D. I just don't play up there :(
What mode selmer?
n1 :)
Bwahahaha can I do that on alto? What fingering should I use
Attermusic that note won’t b altissimo on alto, just a high D I think
Unlacquered.
High school tone.lol
3:20 Oi I’m a freshmen in high school n I don’t sound like shit. I can hit a double altissimo G fam (granted it sounds like a dying mouse) but it comes out full at least
High school tone = bad
