Now that I’ve I’ve installed my Heatilator fan backwards for the last ~15 years I now understand why directing air out the bottom doesn’t cut it. Your video helped this old man immensely!!! Thanks
Maybe it was just me, but originally mounted the sensor to the bottom as shown in video and really took a long time for the fan to come on. Moved it to the side about half way up. Now it’s perfect.
This was extremely helpful. Perfectly explained so that anyone (especially me) could understand it. Also, I have a switch near our fireplace that doesn’t do anything and now I know what it does. 😂 solved a 20 year mystery. Thanks
Thanks for the video! Was just sitting here complaining the fireplace doesn’t add any heat, and at times I swear makes it colder. I googled my complaint and your video was the first to pop up. It was informative, easy to follow and I really appreciated the link to find the proper blower. Already ordered it and looking forward to installing it for my birthday present. Thanks!
Very good video.... Got to admit I was a little intimidated prior. But I know I'm good now, easy to understand and straight to the feeing point. Thanks bro
I purchased on amazon for $39 it has steel bearings , speed controller, and , temperature sensor with magnet , so there is cheaper options too if ppl look to save
Thanks. Couldn’t get any power to my outlet by my fireplace and then when you mentioned there could be a light switch with a button that doesn’t do anything. That was a trick.
Thanks for your video. I went ahead and installed the fan as you described however I was having an issue with the blower not turning off, I went to the manufacturers website and watched a video which showed the fan installed with the Velcro on the bottom and the other pad against the back wall, I called them and they said their video was correct.
What can I do if I don't have a power outlet inside the fireplace..... I do have one wire that goes in that controls if or not the fire gets turned on, but that wire doesn't have any voltage on it..
Since I had a company rip me off replacing the old fan my room doesn’t get warm anymore. So obviously the fan runs hard but must be installed wrong. Must change. Thank you.
The top compartment of my Lennox fireplace has two flaps that have insulation on them - are these only for allowing built up pressure to escape or can they be removed to allow more heat to flow into the upper chamber?
Great video..... My fireplace has all the components needed to install a fan, but it recommends a FBB-4. Can I use a different style or do I have to go with the FBB-4? Thank you for the video and your time.
I have the blower and a very small fan in the bottom of my fireplace. The small fan is about 4 inches by 4 inches. What is this secondary smaller fan for?
I hope you still respond to this videos comments? I enjoyed your video as thinking of putting a fan in (my fireplace is pretty much the same as in the video) but underneath where you put the blower is a lot smaller inside.. the back wall probably about 6" wide and the sides go back at an angle and the gas and what not connections are right in the front and center making it that much harder to get to the back(which is small). How do I put Fan in in this case? Thank you!
Search for your specific fireplace model to find the right fan. There are a lot of differences between brands. This should help: fireplaceblowersonline.com/help-find-my-blower/
Hi there- I bought a house with a gas fireplace installed but no blower or power outlet. There’s one nearby though. So two questions - one, I don’t know the brand or model of the gas fireplace. Do I have to? And two, can I wire the blower to a different outlet instead of having to add one in the chimney? Thanks in advance!!! Great video!!!
Yes, you can use a different outlet if you are OK with seeing a cord coming out of your fireplace. As for the brand, some of the clearances are tight underneath the firebox and you want to make sure whatever fan you go with fits without having wires touch the firebox itself, and can be put in the correct location for airflow. If you contact this company they may be able to help you further: fireplaceblowersonline.com/help-find-my-blower/
I'm replacing a blower on my freestanding fireplace. So blowers are not really model specific, but kind of generic? I'm not quite sure what to look for yet. And I think not cleaning the box out is what caused the blower to fail...we bought the house and just started using the fireplace, it started squealing after a few months of use, I don't think it has ever been cleaned out.
I purchased this and was so looking forward to install but it doesn’t fit, it’s very big for my fireplace underneath In video, it seem we both have same fireplace but looks like my builder gave very small space underneath than yours :(
Trying to install a blower but the space in the front of the unit is not high enough to get the blower in. There is enough height inside the unit. What is another way to get the blower inside the bottom with out going from the front?
I found this article that suggests you can if you have the right valve. www.woodlanddirect.com/gas-log-faq.html#:~:text=Yes%2C%20you%20can%20add%20a,variable%20flame%20and%20thermostatic%20controls.
I dont understand why the blower is below the fireplace it will be way hotter if the fan was blowing from the top right? I got the utlet on the bottom there as well but no blower
The top of the fireplace would be too hot for the motor, bearings, and wires. Everything would melt. These are designed to blow air from the bottom, which will heat and circulate it around the box before coming out from the top vent.
Some models don't have the sensor BUT if you're attaching it to the "roof" of the cavity below the firebox (not the floor where the control sits) it should be getting hot enough to turn it on. Usually takes about 5 minutes in my case.
Is it really this simple to install a fan? Like why don’t they come with them holy crap. My whole track of houses in my community do not have fans. I only found out you can install one thanks to someone asking about it and people having this huge discussion now!
It was difficult to bend the tabs up after I had the blower stuck in place. It would have been easier if it was out of the way. Just a tip for everyone
@@TopHomeowner yeah, thanks. I know what heinsight is. What I don't know is why you haven't achieved heinsight before recording this video? I guess you're just a wing it kind of guy, or that was your first fireplace install? Just wondering why you think it ok for beginners to teach beginners how to work on gas fireplaces. Cause most people who decide to make instructional videos for people on UA-cam, have enough experience that they don't need heinsight to know to prebend the tabs. That was my point
My fireplace turns off after about 10 minutes and I do not believe the fan comes on. Why is this happening? The house is 23 years old, not sure of the maintenance record.
Great video BUT the heat sensor should go towards the TOP of the fireplace! not the bottom as shown at 7:00 because heat rises. the bottom will always be pretty cool.
Thanks for the comment. Actually, the sensor works well on the bottom since it kicks the fan on at around 120 degrees. The cable isn't long enough to reach the top, which is good because the wire would melt since the firebox will get too hot for it on the sides and top.
So right now my fireplace is just decoration? I dont like my. It is useless and don't even look good to call it decoration. So I either do that or remove it completely.

Wow thank you, I should be able to replace my own fan.
Amazing video. Extremely clear and concise. I’m ordering the blower today! Thank you!
You're welcome, it will make a big difference!

Great Explaination!!!!
Will this help with keeping the heat inside the house? seems like a good portion is dumped to the outside vent behind the fireplace.
Thank you now I can do it myself ☝🏽❤️🙏🏽
Thanks. Couldn’t get any power to my outlet by my fireplace and then when you mentioned there could be a light switch with a button that doesn’t do anything. That was a trick.
Thank you so much. The fireplace guys were going to charge me 700 to install one of these.
Thanks Mark! I'm now my brother inlaws savior! 😂

I'd stick with the model recommended. You can also plug the details in here and see what comes up: fireplaceblowersonline.com/help-find-my-blower/

Can you add a blower to a 2-sided gas fireplace? If so, do we need two: one blowing out in each direction? Thank you!

My Superior GHC-6500N fireplace doesn't have any tabs to secure the blower to the bottom. Is there a work-around to this?
What is brand info for firebox insert?
Where do you hook those 2 red wires
I would have tested before sticking it to the panel and turning the fireplace on. If you wired it wrong, you have to undo everything and start over.

They all have similar designs but they usually aren't universal. Make sure whatever one you buy is compatible with your specific fireplace

Sorry to hear that, I will say I had to insert mine flat in order to get it in the front and then I rotated it once it was inside.
Yep. My builder gave just 3.5 inch clearance …even if I remove
Is this a ventless fireplace?

Do you have a link to buy this blower
Yes, it's in the description but I'll put it here too: geni.us/rhAfb
Thanks for watching!
Dude, my gas fireplace was installed 1984... 🤪. They ain’t no switch .😂🥴. Knob to manually turn gas on/off ..
Is there a remote I can add? Fireplace doesn’t have one

No, it sucks air in from the bottom

Yeah it's crazy there are so many fireplaces without these already installed.

@@megatrolltrollington adding a fan with velcro and plugging it in is a pretty DIY task if you ask me.
I don't think you do know what "heinsight" means because it's not actually a word. Hindsight is 20/20 though😉. I thought he did a great tutorial.
Why is the blower installed in bottom when all the heat is above it.
My fireplace turns off after about 10 minutes and I do not believe the fan comes on. Why is this happening? The house is 23 years old, not sure of the maintenance record.
my stupid fireplace says for decorative use only not for heating!
Sorry to hear that!
Which brand is good?
The one I purchased was from fireplaceblowersonline.com and I really like the quality

So the fan turns on 20 seconds later instead of placing sensor on the top. BIG DEAL.
