When comparing lounges, you need to consider the time of day for the journeys. On Avanti you went in the morning when not many people had been through. You left Leeds on the LNER trip at 5pm, when the lounge had been open all day. I think 6 was a bit harsh a score.
Avanti have tried to up their game after a dismal start and I used their standard class from Carlisle to Birmingham with work. Train was a couple of minutes late, which is no major issue, but there was no catering until Preston, which would have annoyed first class passengers. Return journey was without a hitch and had work been generous enough, I'd have loved to have sampled first class.
100%. The Class 91s are definitely more comfortable than the Azuma so I’ll probably do another version in the future featuring them vs the Avanti class 805!
I might call this a little unfair because avanti has their flagship lounge at glasgow, while LNER has there flagship lounges at edinburgh and kings cross.
Wow! How far in advance did you book these tickets? I rarely book early and was really surprised by those prices. They are comparable to European networks. Great vid
Thank you for the comment! These tickets were booked about 2 weeks in advance but there are still plenty of offers a bit closer to the date of travel if you check different times :)
This is a very misleading comparison because very few LNER trains run with InterCity 225 trains any more. We’re nearly always stuck on the awful Azuma seats.
As mentioned in many other comments, this comparison was mainly just a bit of fun on my way home but I’ll definitely have to do a more accurate comparison in the future.
I normally like your videos and this is great but it’s not the best comparison. For an accurate comparison you need to do the identical whole journey. Ie London to Scotland or Scotland to London. Or Newcastle to London and Carlisle to London.. or vv. otherwise another great video
Thank you for the comment and I totally understand where you’re coming from and I was waiting for someone to pick up on this when I originally filmed the video. Unfortunately I had to film around my itinerary to get back home, so it is a far from perfect comparison. When time allows I’ll have to redo it with the full route!
Glasgow Central is a British/UK nationalists nightmare as it has a ticket office that says tickets within Scotland Only!I'd love to see if they will sell you a ticket to Carlisle or Berwick upon Tweed?
Enjoyed this latest but I bet that I wasn't the only viewer who was a wee bit miffed that you weren't going the whole hog. A decent attempt to keep the parameters as near equal as you could and it just about passed muster as a consumer-focused piece. You're big enough and ugly enough to justify the cost of a ticket for the entire distance. As is the channel I reckon, congratulations. May I suggest that in order to pre-empt sections of the unwelcome crass comments that will come with more views; you make it clear at the start that you pay for tickets and onboard snacks (if so) and are _not_ a guest of the TOCs and tongue tied regarding what you can say as a result?
Thank you for your comment! As mentioned in another comment, I was aware that the video wouldn’t be perfect and was mainly just a bit of fun on my journey back home. Thanks for the suggestion and I’ll definitely take that into account next time as I do pay for all the travel by myself. As ever, thank you for supporting the channel and any more suggestions are welcomed :)

Great vid Rory, those 225 seats look fabulous.
to be replaced in 2027 by CAF class 897s 10 car trains
Another well produced and likeable video Rory - keep them coming!
Excellent video Rory, I have subscribed to you. i would like to see longer videos showing more of the trains and the journeys.
Thank you very much! More coming soon including up to the very north of Scotland so lots of lovely scenery!
@@RorysTravels I will look forward to more videos.
The grey leather first class in those 225 trains is peak stuff - can't be beaten.
One of my favourite first class carriages!
@@RorysTravels did you know the seats are still in virgin east coast branding??, btw a suggestion is to do Azuma Vs Evero (class 800/801 vs class 805)
@@JackGourdon-je4ze Yes, I remember them from when they first put them in! Definitely a good suggestion so keep an eye out in the future 👀
@@RorysTravels yes indeed! great vid btw!
@RorysTravels awesome video
Another nice video and well presented.
Congratulations on a job well done. Interesting and informative especially for someone who travels 2nd class all the time.
Hi Rory, Many thanks for another really interesting video..
Another great video Rory
Brilliant video as always Rory. But as you remarked, the seats on the 225 sets are great. The seats on the Azumas are absolutley dreadful.
Nice video mate 👍
Class 805 avanti vs class 801 LNER next please!!
Good idea! Keep an eye out in the future!
Might you also include toilet facilities please ❤❤❤
Great video.Thank you.😂
Very enjoyable video. Meals looked tasty, especially with LNER. I'm guessing your comfort score would've been lower if you rode an Azuma train.

Rory, you are too generous 🙏

No competition: LNER every time!

No comparison as LNER journey made aboard BR built loco and coaches.
These are far superior anything else.
