God I hate this color scheme for Summerfest- I mean Summerslam. Red, white and yellow is so ugly and doesn't fit the vibe of the show at all. Mysterio/Ziggler is another great showing for Dolph. Mysterio drops the title to John Morrison on tv a few weeks later who then feuds with Ziggler for the belt. Wonder why they just didn't have Dolph win it here and then drop it to Morrison. MVP vs Jack Swagger might be the most random Summerslam match of the modern era ever. Right up there with Kane vs Finlay lmao. Cryme Tyme not winning the tag titles is an actual crime (no pun intended). Especially after that Raw segment with Shaq, like just have them win the belts here and drop them back to Jeri-Show later on. Kane/Khali on PPV is something no one asked for in 2007, let alone in 2009 lol. DX/Legacy was a great match and I love the finish with Dibiase and Triple H laying out the legal men with their finishers before taking each other out as Rhodes and HBK barely get to their feet before Shawn lands a Sweet Chin Music for the win. Great finish. Not sure why Christian/Regal went 8 seconds but that's ECW in 2009 for ya. They thankfully have a proper PPV match a month later. I've gone back and forth on Cena/Orton, for the longest time I hated this match and thought it was a waste of time. Looking back now, idk I think I enjoy the bullshit a little more now. Maybe cause they didn't half ass it, like they went all in with the constant restarts until Orton found a cheap way to win which I kind of respect. Hardy/Punk was an incredible main event and aside from their cage match which was Hardy's true final match before leaving, this was a great send off for Jeff. I was heartbroken when I read online he was gone but at least he went out on a high, literally as in high atop a ladder before crashing and burning lmao. After the match, Jeff Hardy magically disappears as the Undertaker returns to start his feud with Punk and boy is that about a load of bullshit in itself.
@@Superspriggan SummerFest 09’ marked the first of six editions of the show in Los Angeles. And here I thought AEW loved going to the same venues over and over again lol. DX’s 2009 run was terrible but I did enjoy the matches they had with Legacy. Christian being cleaver and hitting the killswitch immediately was the only highlight of that 8 second debacle. The stark contrast between the Cena/Orton match at SummerFest 07’ and 09’ is wild. Overbooked shenanigans can work (Roman/Cody II) but none of this worked imo. It didn’t help that the pacing was abysmal which made a 20 minute match feel like it took an hour. Punk/Jeff round out their PPV trilogy with a top 5 TLC match. I remember being hyped for a Punk/Taker feud…. Boy did Vince drop the fucking ball on that.
