    Thank you very much for this inspiring and informative video. I am 63 years old and have had 2 hip surgeries (same hip, left), back surgery (spinal stenosis and a pinched sciatic nerve), arthroscopic right knee surgery and an enlarged heart. These injuries were from being over weight and also injuries from childhood to youth not Shorin. I am going back to doing the karate that I use to do (Shorin-ryu) some 35 years ago in Bradenton, Fl. It helped condition me and I had good flexibility, which helped me walk with no problems. I have to do something to have a better quality of life. Thank you again.

    This came exactly at the right time. I’ve been training for the last 6 years, last 3 years daily. I will not get more flexible not matter what I do. Except this: keep pushing 1mm!

    • @sassuki
      @sassuki 2 роки тому +1

      The butterfly stretch seems to be most important, but someone has to help you by first pushing your knees downwards with his hands, and once comfortable, eventually stand with both feet on them so that they touch the floor. Once you master this, you can do the Kakato-Geri very well!

      IMO , there are. In the KATA "Jion" (Shorin ryu version) , there are one-two punches that keep the rear hand guarding the face , thought not as high as boxers punches , but big different from hikite .

    Find the high kicks in Okinawan kata, there aren't any....it's thanks to sport karate high kick have been added, first to Japanese karate and later infiltrate Okinawan style. High kicks aren't useful in the street and also you need to be careful how you train for flexibility....many of my dojo friends from the 1960s have had hip operations due to harsh flexibility training

    • @shazamsakazaki
      @shazamsakazaki 3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, no matter how flexible you are, you won't pulling a high kick on the street. Unlike the gi made for athletic functioning, your casual clothes are gonna stop you from stretching your leg to do a high kick. Also most shoe make it easier to lose balance doing high kicks than bare feet

      @Rob Koch A low kick can also be used as a sweep to take someone to the ground. Depending on how you use it, it can be devastating.

    Flexibility is very important for overall health and blood circulation. Hardcore flexibility is not only important for kicks, it’s great for punches and grappling as well.

  • @Saiarts_yt
    @Saiarts_yt 3 роки тому

    Im aware that flexibility is important component of martial arts. In one of Karate Nerd's video (meant to say Sensei Jesse Enkamp's video) says that Okinawan karate did mostly kumite and that origins to having boxing in place like Philipines (specifically Kali). I will not understand why hip mobility will be just as essential when Karate in its history had its own routes in pacific islander's boxing methods.

      You need to be able to pull a strong high kick in order to have a perfect kick to the mid-section, which is VEEERY useful in a street fight. A Mawashi.Geri to the ribs, the liver or solar plexus is guaranteed to bring any opponent down.
