After Singh-Poilievre's heated exchange, Canada's house speaker tells MPs to behave better

- House of Commons Speaker Greg Fergus said before question period on Monday that he expects members of Parliament to behave better than they did last week, when an exchange between two party leaders got so heated one MP thought it may actually come to physical blows.
Fergus's warning comes after NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh stepped out from behind his desk to shout at the Conservative leader last Thursday, when Pierre Poilievre called Singh a phoney and a fraud for his refusal to vote to bring down the Liberal government.
"Last time I was in this chair, there were a number of questions which were not relevant to the administration of government. There were words which fall outside of what's acceptable, there was behaviour which was also outside of the parliamentary traditions," Fergus said on Monday. He added that he hopes to have more to say later this week, in light of demands from MPs for more discipline in the House.
Later on in question period, Conservative MP Andrew Scheer claimed that Singh was trying to “pull off another stunt” and “fool Canadians” through a new carbon pricing position. Meanwhile, Singh said that the Liberals “promised a crackdown” on Loblaws that “turned out to be a letdown,” and Minister of Health Mark Holland replied by asking how the NDP were “going to stand up for Canadians” if they “can’t stand up to the Conservative Leader.”

We've been warning about housing affordability and the opioid crisis for decades but nobody listened because property values were going up and drugs were an inner city problem. Minister of Finance is out of touch with young Canadians by extending mortgage payments to 30 years! What’s next 40 years with thousands in interest paid to banks!! Who wins? Corporate banking system get richer by keeping Canadians in debt longer and not owning their home, just money in the pockets of bankers. Anyone that has a mortgage knows that most of the mortgage payments consist of interest not the principle. The banks reap the benefits by collecting massive amounts of interest at the front end of the mortgage. The mortgagee doesn’t actually pay much towards the principle until many years of mortgage payments. This leaves home owners with next to nothing in home equity. It’s an absolute disgrace. The middle class is getting squeezed even more by this Liberal government.

Today I drove past a church here in Edmonton that has a food bank on Mondays. They normally have a line about 50 feet long with maybe 50 to 60 people. Today, the line was easily 150 to 200 feet long and probably 175 to 200 people. But hey, you will own nothing and you will be happy. The people in that line up today didn't look very happy to me..........

As you gain equity and renegotiate your mortgage you can change the terms etc. It's temporary while you're working towards earning more. We started at 25 years and worked it down to 10 over the years and eventually paid it off. Took 30 years. This is normal. You adjust as the environment changes. There'll be booms and busts. But it can be done.
But it's good for the banks.

I only started watching House of Commons a couple years ago. Has it always been like this? When the Conservatives were in power did they answer questions? The fiberals get asked a question and they don’t give the answer. They start calling down other parties. I would have punished my kids for acting so childish.

30 year mortgages help only the banks. We signed up for a 30 year mortgage in 2011. The interest paid on that house could have made a 30-40% down payment in a preferred house. We, as well as young buyers who will choose this, were 1st time buyers. Never again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...shame on me.
