Thank you James for inviting us to your family reunion from the little ones in the backseat of a station wagon the bat and to the back of the thickets with the asian wife a storyteller an entertainer pure heartland I'm having OTR flashbacks James you describe the thin line between white trash and blue collar the highs and the lows you're amazing story teller thanks for bringing us along
A few minutes into the video, I happen to glance at the title see the phrase "the late Ian MacLaglan on keys," and think, "Alright, I wonder who he was." And RIGHT THEN, that keyboard solo on "Chocktaw Bingo" starts--and thirty seconds later I'm just like, "WOW. Now I know."
Get a bit of a buzz on and zone out in the dark with James McMurtry for 40 mins. Use a good pair of headphones or earbuds. I find it cathartic in spite of it being somewhat depressing. He says what others won’t.
James McMurtry is right there with Bob Dylan, the late Fred Neil and the late great Townes Van Zandt.

I never had the privilege of meeting Ian. Guess I was too late
Late comer on James music. Genius. I am so happy to find a musician that is still writing tunes about topics of such a wide variety.

Good Post, thanks!

I hope someday somebody I think he is in a tuning I would like to know
It appears to be in drop D (capo 2, obviously), possibly with the high E also dropped -- not sure about that, though.
