This is one of the finest rendering by Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb. I have been listening to this masterpiece for over 4 decades. Another number by Ustadji is Yaman.
Vilayataji sings Sitar not just plays. Maa Sarswati has blessed him.

Brilliant and divine rendering of Raga Darbari, Kannada. Note there are no other supporting instruments like a band or film music. It is pure from the heart of the maestro blessed by the god.

I had the privilege of spending two days with Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb in Buffalo, where he played. The host put me in charge of taking care of him, including taking him to and bringing him back from the hall. Naturally, I also stayed with the host. I also have a picture of that occasion with him. He was so simple, almost like a child.
I also wrote an article describing my time with him.

This Darbari was played by the great Ustad Vilayat Khan, with the maestro Shankar Ghosh on Tabla. It's from an LP. In my view, Ustad-Ji was the greatest Sitarist of his generation. Though a Muslim, he was an ardent devotee of Devi and always said he owed it all to her and his guru. Whoever uploaded this recording should have mentioned this.

Darbaari Kaanadaa janyam of Melakarta Number 20 Nata bhairavi according to CARNATIC music. When we listen to this Raag our mind / heart melts like anything. Divine vibration is very much assured for the listeners. Good meditative mood comes to a serious listener like me. The verrrrrrry biggggggggggggggggest gift for us in this birth is listening to such good music only and nothing else. Not at all...LP is separate...I have it since 1973...and listen at least 5000 times....may be performance of Khan sahab but not this LP record...

Darbari Kannada in sitar is super excellent artist is Pandit Ravi Shankar World known Artist resently at the age of 95 or so expired IT is a great loss for us sp Indians Ustad vilait Hussain was another great Sitarist .AND NIKHIL BANERJI WAS THE THIRD ARTIST No. Other can stand or compared with these great masters
Wrong. This is a gayaki style playing. Ravi Shankar doesn't play gayaki style at all. After Vilayat khan, Nikhal Banerjee may be no. 2. Ravi Shankar, I am sorry, doesn't belong in this league. Yes, he is the most famous sitarist though. Ravi Shankar's guru, Ustad Allauddin Khan was not a sitar player. He played several instruments including violin and sitar. He was basically a sarod player - but that too was not gayaki style either. Vilayat khan, like his teacher, Muhammad Khan popualarized the gayanki style in sitar which is the prevalent style now - and a very difficlult style too.
I am sure, it is played by Ustad Shujaat Khan. It belongs to his approach and style. But artist name should be mentioned.
