The Masterchef franchise took their concept to a whole new level, proving that culinary school and years of experience in restaurants are not necessarily required to be an excellent chef with an eye for impeccable detail. And thus, Masterchef Junior was launched and proved to the world that kids as young as 9 years old have what it takes to be a true Masterchef just as much as an adult. MasterChef Junior is an American cooking competition involving children and teenagers from age of 8-13 and airs on Fox. It premiered on Friday, September 27, 2013. It is based on the format of the U.K. series. At the auditions, the child applicants are split into three groups. Twelve of the applicants become contestants for the next round and all twenty-four receive one of the MasterChef franchise's signature aprons that they get to keep, regardless of their progress. After the audition round, two contestants are sent home per episode. The MasterChef Junior winner receives a prize of $100,000 and the MasterChef Junior trophy.
It adheres to the following format: any child or teenager between ages eight and thirteen can apply to become a contestant on the MasterChef Junior by applying online or by going to an open casting call. 24 applicants are chosen for the on-air audition.

it might not of been this season, but Joe is really kind with the kids going home. I mean I remember one of the kids he actually picked up and gave her a really big hug. I know to some that is nothing, but for a grumpy guy like Joe that is pretty sweet and counts as a best moment.

I just started watching this show and I'm speechless. I've seen how tough Gordon Ramsey can be on other shows. These kids need to teach some of the adults on how to handle things and sooooooo much more. Now I'm hungry!!
