I've been playing keyboards for over 30 years now. Watching videos like this gives me a real buzz.. I adore the sounds and tones of so many synths. All have different characters. This is a wonderful display of the Oberheim and the strymon. Thank you for todays smile... keep up the fantastic work. 👏 😉
It may sound unimaginative, but I feel like you really channeled Vangelis in this one. I heard so much of him, and his soundscapes. What a gorgeous piece of kit. Gives me goosebumps. Amazing playing.
I bought a Big Sky reverb pedal a few months ago and it adds so much depth to everything. Definitely getting the OBX8 sometime in the future. Can't wait to play this same pad-like stuff on it. Great music!
This is the reason why I am ordering the OBX8 next month. Eventually, the Strymon Bigsky MX and Timeline to pair with it. So excited for the dream to come true.
THIS is the Oberheim sound I remember from the early 80s. Not the stupid Jump, Tom Sawyer, etc. stuff you hear on nearly every demo of this keyboard. Thanks!!
I love mine. It's amazing how well it sounds dry. So you know when you add anything to this, it's going to sound fantastic. The thing is you can go from a sweet pad to ripping lead in a second, hit that unison switch, and it becomes an instant lead synth.
Thank you @J3PO for reminding me that my OB-X8 can do all sorts of cool other stuff than the classic Oberheim sounds. 01:36 is a lovely sound - haven't quite got it yet but did make some nice marimba sounds using the same oscillator setup.
Beautiful demo of a beautiful sounding synth! My only quibble is with the front panel graphics, it looks like placeholder art. I wish they'd gone with the original blue lines on black background.
Beautiful pads man. I like how you are approaching/playing it like a piano-rhodes. Best analog poly I have heard since the Moog One. Maybe I'll pick up the desktop module. No room for another keyboard footprint.
I picked up an OBX8 on Sunday. Installed your patches today. Big Sky arrived today. Timeline will be here next week. What was the name of the last patch in the video? Simple beautiful. This video cost me a lot of money. 🙂
What a beautiful showcase of your presets! Having the OBX8 now for some time, what are your thoughts? Are there certain things it does better than your other synths? Is it one of your favorites?
love this video. might be tempted to sell my OB8 to buy one of these what's that giant keyboard behind you? low end on the 3:28 patch is quite something. seems more powerful on lower freqs than the OB8 but hard to tell really
As a proud owner of an OB-X8, I'd say that depends. The Rev 2 does more than the OB-X8 as far as synthesis capabilities, however the Oberheim sounds better in my opinion. If you're into the vintage polysynths, I'd say go for it. However, if you don't have any other synths besides the Rev 2, that might be tough. You could always trade the Rev 2 for a Prophet-5 or 10 as well, but I have to say, the OB-X8 sounds amazing even dry, and I'm only running mine through a Zoom multi-effects pedal and it's unbeatable. There's a bunch of OB-X8 videos on my channel too if you want more convincing.
The Rev 2 is my favorite modern poly synth. It gets used more than any other synth in my collection. It's so different than the OB-X8 that I would say do not sell the Rev 2 to finance an X8 unless you don't like the Rev 2 or are not using it that much.
I finally bought an OB-X8, after having been disappointed with the UB-Xa which I sold after 2 weeks. And I've got a question for you: did you compare it to your OB-Xa at one point? Can you get exactly the same out of the X8? Because, call me ultra-critical, but I don't hear quite the same presence from the OB-X8 as the OB-Xa from the video in the link below, probably due to the OB-Xa having CEM3340 and OB-X8 having discrete (SEM type) oscillators, perhaps? ua-cam.com/video/yA8XLhd5P3w/v-deo.html
That is probably a fair statement. I have an OB-X8, but I’ve had a few synths with Curtis chips, and they are more aggressive and mid-focused. The Xa/8 filter in the X8 is Curtis, but the rest isn’t. So it is probably more smooth. But it’s so close I don’t think you’d regret it. This sound I made on the X8, using all the Xa settings, is very similar to the intro to “1984” by Van Halen, which was played on an Xa. It’s definitely close enough for me: ua-cam.com/users/shortsCi_ZqPwtLvw?si=1JelX6MFNhRfgzaF
they are quite different! If you're a die-hard vintage Oberheim fan who's always wanted an OB-X, OB-Xa, or OB-8, then the X8 without a doubt. I still love my OB-6 so much. I love the sound, the modulation, the FX. I hope to release a Vol. 2 of presets for it soon.
I’m convinced this is the king of the retro analog polysynths. So much energy and emotion.
facts !!!!
I have listened to all the analog synths but this one always captures my soul.
Incredible playing man! You bring the X8 to life :)
So do you!

Proof that gorgeous doesn't need to be measured in notes per second. Well done man!
The music on this channel is something else. Every track is a masterpiece. Can't wait for more. 💞
yes so true

Thanks for this insight on what this synth can do in conjunction with hi-q fx pedals. Can listen for days to that.😊
You really leaned into this synth's strengths in a beautiful way here, while still keeping your own voice. Fantastic demo, and wonderful sounds.
This video is so good I don't need to buy one now.
Julian, love your music ideas and playing. Absolutely goosebumping...thank you

Great synth! Beautiful music and great playing!
Simply wonderful, I love this Instrument.
God what sounds! super smooth Oberheim tone. Makes me wish for a Matrix 12 release
the Matrix 12 is king
There will be an Xpander (same thing) release. They bought the copyright.
@@Lachenmann7 Oh man, that’d be a dream come true. Do you know if it’s definitely in the works?

Indeed
Jump is not stupid. It’s just stupid that everyone plays these chords for an Oberheimish sound.
@@SoundmanCHYep, Jump is to synths what Stairway to Heaven is to guitars.
@@SoundmanCH I couldn't agree more!
Iam buying it just to play Jump!

The sound at 6:42 is what I’m searching for forever
Does anyone know what this patch is called?
Beautiful demo of a beautiful sounding synth! My only quibble is with the front panel graphics, it looks like placeholder art. I wish they'd gone with the original blue lines on black background.
Very emotional playing , I’m between this and the TEO-5

soulful material. enjoyed it.
you bring me a tears Good Job
Glorious…. Just glorious !
Strymon BigSky makes all synthesizers to the best.
Great sounds, great playing!
I'm glad I clicked on this video
That was so great.
Excellent.

the patch is called "Eulogy"
At this price point, the Strymon BigSky should have been included as a package deal with the OB-X8, because it really needs it.
Agreed! Strymon FX should be included with all synths 🤣
Great instrument Great player👍
Beautiful!
Very, very nice!
Fantastic synth! Can you also make/transform these patches for the GForce OB-X? :-)
I am between either buying this or the OB-6 help
Dude the third sound was like a new Hiroshi Yoshimura song. Please make an album with long arrangements.
What a beautiful showcase of your presets! Having the OBX8 now for some time, what are your thoughts? Are there certain things it does better than your other synths? Is it one of your favorites?
Superb !!! Any chance you will make some patches for the new GeFOrce version ?
love this video. might be tempted to sell my OB8 to buy one of these

low end on the 3:28 patch is quite something. seems more powerful on lower freqs than the OB8 but hard to tell really
the keyboard behind me is a Roland A88 MIDI controller, the best controller IMO for Keyscape! :)
unique!
Bro, thanks for everything you Do! Does your presets works on Oberheim OB-X8 Desktop version?
Yes, the presets work for both the desktop and keyboard version!
Where’s the Album at?
I wish there were 2 like buttons
Oberheim: “It’s like heroin for the ears.”
@The_Invisible_Manvery more-ish.
Now that I hear this I wonder if the pad sound in the chorus of "don't give up" is an oberheim too?
Prophet 5 and Fairlight are layered while Peter sings. When Kate sings, it's a Yamaha CS-80 played by Simon Clark.
@@Station2Station-du2gh wow, thanks a lot for the detailed info! 💛✊🏽
