Just so you know Warhammer Fantasy is over 40 years old. Though, you also picked probably the least fleshed out faction in the game which is quite funny.
They went to a ton of effort working with GW to make Cathay into an actual faction when it's literally nothing but a name in lore, but then just stuck to the extremely lacking existing lore for Bretonnia, standard CA things
Day 365 of asking for an Oranje Free State Playthrough of Vicky 3! A FULL YEAR! I eagerly await the video! I was told we'd get it after a year after all.
You should play the Empire next time, they're much more standard and play much more like the historical total war games, but still have access to fantasy stuff, they're a great faction for historical total war players getting into warhammer
Seeing you almost exclusively recruit from the Global recruitment pool almost gave me an aneurysm But man was it fun to look at. If you love playing with range, i would recommend either the elves (chose your flavor) or if you want to go crazy with it... Ikkit-Claw from the Skavens. You get nukes, miniguns and snipers. It's hilarious
Good video, it's funny to watch an older total war fan experience the newer titles and the direction they went. Just some tips for you. Make sure you use local recruitment rather than global recruitment. It's more expensive globally upfront and tends to take longer to recruit. Plus quick deal in the diplomacy tab sorts how likely factions are to sign things like NAP and trade deals. Makes diplo a little more digestible. Your armies can also change stances to avoid attrition or raid (there are downside and upsides). It's in the bottom left like commandments
It’s tempting to look at the Total War saga and think: “It all went downhill once they tried to do too much, too quickly.” But the truth is more nuanced. If you step back, you see Total War evolving through several overlapping tension points: 1. The Fatigue of Iteration For years, Total War thrived by layering expansions, improved graphics, and slight AI tweaks onto a well-loved formula-historical armies, turn-based strategy meets real-time tactics. Yet over time, that familiar loop began to exhibit diminishing returns. Fans wanted deeper diplomacy, more stable AI, and innovative mechanics. Meanwhile, creative energy gravitated toward big “headline” features (like monstrous units or grand expansions), sometimes overshadowing fundamental improvements like AI pathfinding or bug fixes. The brand found itself oscillating between mainstream spectacle and the “depth” older fans craved. 2. The Shift in Business Models Initially, Creative Assembly’s expansions felt like meaningful additions-true expansions rather than fragments. But with the growth of DLC culture, microtransactions, and ongoing “season pass” models, Total War started releasing more frequent, bite-sized add-ons. Fans got splintered: some enjoyed the steady drip of new content, while others saw it as a double-dip approach that left base games feeling incomplete without DLC. Over time, the brand’s once rock-solid reputation for delivering robust, singular releases started to crack. 3. Unbalanced Focus on IP Partnerships Total War: Warhammer was a watershed moment, bridging Warhammer’s fantasy lore with the franchise’s tactical DNA. It brought in a massive new audience. But as the Warhammer trilogy dominated CA’s roadmap, the historical purists felt sidelined. The tension between the “fantasy fans” and the “history crowd” put the studio in a bind: Warhammer was a commercial hit-so more resources poured into fantasy expansions. Meanwhile, releases like Thrones of Britannia or Troy got overshadowed, giving the impression that the historical wing of Total War was an afterthought. 4. The Weight of Community Expectations From the outside, Total War looks like a near-monopoly on large-scale strategy battles. Yet ironically, that success can stifle innovation. With each new title, the community demands both continuity and novelty: “Don’t break the formula, but surprise us.” That internal push-pull sometimes yields half-step changes-like improved campaign mechanics but still questionable siege AI. Or a beloved historical setting (say, Three Kingdoms) overshadowed by marketing hype that outruns the final product’s polish. 5. Internal Pressures and External Shifts Like many AAA studios, Creative Assembly has faced shifting budgets, corporate parent constraints (Sega’s broader strategy), and the lure of new markets. The rumored or canceled spinoffs, the pivot to different genres (Hyenas was an attempt at a shooter-looter concept), suggest the studio’s not sure how best to diversify while preserving the Total War DNA. This trial-and-error experimentation can feel scattered-particularly to fans who just want a well-tested, stable Total War iteration that nails the fundamentals. So, What Did Happen to Total War? It didn’t so much “collapse” as splinter across multiple frontiers: Warhammer expansions, DLC-laden historical releases, bold stabs at new IP, and behind-the-scenes attempts to keep a large audience satisfied. The series still delivers massive cinematic battles and a grand sense of scale, but fans increasingly wonder if the iterative approach has overshadowed genuine leaps in AI sophistication, campaign depth, and stable mod support. In the End If you’re looking for the old synergy of Total War: Rome or Medieval II-the feeling that each release was a self-contained masterwork-today’s environment might disappoint. But that’s part of gaming’s broader shift: more content, more expansions, more ways to monetize-and, inevitably, more compromise on the cohesive vision. Where Total War goes next depends on whether CA can unify the community’s historic love of deep, refined strategy with the commercial success of big crossovers and fast DLC cycles. The brand might still find its footing, but it’ll require a strategic pivot that returns to core fundamentals: robust AI, stable releases, and a sense that each new Total War truly pushes the envelope, rather than just adding more layers to a formula that’s beginning to show its age.
hahaha The man loves to read everything in games usually but he decided to full blind into tww3 respect. 😂😂 Watching him be scared on turn 1 of the army garrison was so good haha.
If you want to play Warhammer 3, you gotta start with Karl Franz. The Empire, unlike Bretonnia, doesn't suck in the current meta, and plays pretty similarly to the historical total wars
After I spent thousands of hours on this game, I somehow never considered using standard medieval strategies for the game. I just saw magic and immediately gave up on proper formations. This is actually refreshing.
If you're looking for a more "distinct WW 1" feel, then I reccomend trying out either the dwarfs (any subfaction) or the Skaven (Ikit Claw's subfaction). The dwarves have cannons, throwable explosive charges, gyrocopters, and zeplins, among many other things. The Skaven have gatling guns, poison gas mortars and grenades, space-rock-fueled spike-coverrd motorcycles... and tactical nuclear missiles and city-destryoying nuclear mines. And this is in the same setting as the Fr*nch.
And he choose to play as the French counter parts. I... I'm just disappointed you could have played as the definitely not just the HRE but fantasy. But no the French this will be remembered (I'm just guessing but i think its because he didn't want to go broke buying £300 worth of DlC )
The recruiting menu has two options, local and global. You kept doing global recruitment (The top part) which is more expensive and slower. If you have the option you should mostly always do local recruitment if you're in a province with the troop you want to recruit. Good video would like to see more total war
That was a great video! I wish to see you trying to make the most overpowered character and conquer the entire world with only it. It would be great to watch!
Warhammer is a lot different than historical titles. It’s why I like watching LegendOfTotalWar because he plays it so much he’s really good at it and he can still play historical.
Watching Laith recruit globally the entire game was hair loss inducing, but he already seems primed for Skaven gameplay. I must see him play Ikit Claw and his Ratling Gunners/Doomwheels/Doomrockets, I can't wait until he accidently nukes his first army in horror, and then his second in glee.
As a Brettonia fan, seeing you not touch the Vow tab hurts lmao, completing Vows decreases the cost of cavalry. Repanse is probably the best French lord to play as for Brettonia. For holding fronts Elves are a decent choice, Empire is the more WW1 vibes faction. (Not my fave faction but are loved worldwide.)
Bretonnia is kinda a new player trap largely in part because of how shockingly bad their infantry is compared basically any other faction. But knights are cool so people play them anyways and wonder what happened when they fight anything other than zombies (which the Bretonnian infantry is barely able to do) and everyone is dead or routed. They are also really reliant on their heroes and lords to deal with anything dangerous. Assuming you're really into staying with human factions, the Empire or Cathay might be more forgiving factions to start with. If you can tolerate elves, the high elves are a pretty forgiving-to-new-players faction as well.
Bretonnia as a first campaign is perhaps not ideal, it is one of the harder factions in the game. Louen Leoncoeur is a bit easier than the other bretonnian lords though, because, as you clearly noticed, he is one of the strongest fighters in the game. To be fair you did also put all his levels on the yellow skill line. The yellow buff the character, the red buff the army and the blue give campaign buffs. Those are the generic skill lines, legendary characters also have a 4th unique line that is specific to them. Also yes, I would like to see more
As someone who had like 1300 hours in Warhammer before ever playing EU4, it's really amusing to watch you do the opposite 😛 And you picked Bretonnia out of all the factions 😅 They have really strong late game economy and some pretty strong late game units, but they're one of the weakest factions in early and mid game xD Apart from King Louen himself, he's a beast, like you've seen for yourself. Yes, magic and lords are supposed to be ridiculosly OP, that is one of the ways the game is supposed to be played. If you enjoyed the game, I'd like to see more Warhammer videos from you in future. It was really fun to watch you learn the game 😉
Nice play for first time. The only thing you need to do is to recruit from local province than the global recruit. Because globle recruit takes 2 time of time and gold than local.
Would love to see a Three Kingdoms after this, its also much like WH3 but being, imo, the best feeling Total War game to actually play. It truly stands above the others
if you plan on playing more in the future id suggest playing someone like balthasar gelt in the empire he has a very uniqe playstyle with a lot of magic and magic is stupidly op when you do it right, or someone who is also magic but chaos at the same time Be'lakor (who if im not misstaken by lore is a literal god) is also fun to play especially in the later game where you can get 1k plus kills just on him from magic. Side note love your content ❤
If you just want to hold the line and wipe your enemies with superior fire power, then DWARFS is the faction for you. They even got a full on airforce now with their latest DLC.
Laith playing the all knights faction when he instead of THE EMPIRE when he is a fun of lines of infantry etc is a real oopsie. He needs to SUMMON THE ELECTOR COUNTS as KARL FRANZ.
i would recomand Skarbrand, hes a khorne lord so no magic and the entire roster is melee units with only skirmishing cav and one arty which also needs to melee to get more ammo. No wild faction mecanics only that you dont directly take all setelments but rather get ruins by chance as long as you got 1 setelment in the region. Otherwise dwarfs are all about tanky infantry and strong gun units, artillery and war machins, i think Thorek ironbrow has the easiest start position for them but dont quote me on that i bearly play dwarfs. As for Bretonia, the pessent limit increases with extra setelments, and you wanne spam some extra lords early and have them tag along your main army since they have vows (if you go to skill tree on the top you can get to that window) you gotte do those to get 50% upkeep reduction for your cav units among other boni
Thanks for the breakdown! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Play the dwarfs. They have no magic at all. Just some runes here and there, but most of it is pure explosion, arrows and the unwavering resolve of dwarfen resolve to make their grudges right.
if you love spear man then I would buy Eltharion the Grim DLC he is a big spear guy(gives lots of buff to them plus he has very good early game artilery)
I think you need to try out Clan Skryre (Skaven) they have like green flametrowers and amazing ranged units (like miniguns and lazers) but no good infantry units XD
Oh no he is going down the warhammer rabbit hole at least it will be interesting and fun to watch when he does some of the other races like the demons or the rats

Plays warhammer 3 picks the most boring faction astetically, like bretonia is literally just medieval 2
hahaha The man loves to read everything in games usually but he decided to full blind into tww3 respect. 😂😂 Watching him be scared on turn 1 of the army garrison was so good haha.
Watching you use global recruitment like that hurt my soul - would love to see more!
Is it longer?
Longer and way more expensive@@TheSocialStreamers
@@TheSocialStreamers Twice as long and twice as expensive. You'd want to do it as rarely as possible.
If you want to play Warhammer 3, you gotta start with Karl Franz. The Empire, unlike Bretonnia, doesn't suck in the current meta, and plays pretty similarly to the historical total wars
I am so used to videos of people playing Total War Warhammer well, that I never thought it would be more fun to watch someone play it badly
Laith using control groups, I'm so proud of you.
After I spent thousands of hours on this game, I somehow never considered using standard medieval strategies for the game. I just saw magic and immediately gave up on proper formations. This is actually refreshing.
Global recruit of tier 1 infantry when local is empty :-_).....brings back memories
Empire also has excellent ranged play.
Laith really doing the "What the hell is even that?" Meme 🤣
(Not my fave faction but are loved worldwide.)
horses dont do well in forest, try to put your anvil in open field so your horses have freedom to move at full speed
Poor Laith picking one of the factions most in need of update. He did well all things considered though.
Bro saw 1 turn and cheaper recruitment and desire to recruit from global recruitment
if you want to hold static lines, id go for the dwarfs or the chaos dwarfs.
Also yes, I would like to see more
As someone who had like 1300 hours in Warhammer before ever playing EU4, it's really amusing to watch you do the opposite 😛 And you picked Bretonnia out of all the factions 😅
They have really strong late game economy and some pretty strong late game units, but they're one of the weakest factions in early and mid game xD Apart from King Louen himself, he's a beast, like you've seen for yourself.
It truly stands above the others
when the strategy gaming world has the total war itch all at the same time.
Not the most chaotic brettonia campain I've seen
This is like when I was teaching my best friend and fiancé how to play this game in a coop campaign haha
ngl seeing someone is completely new to warhammer play this game is really fun lol
Laith playing a game that depends on reading tooltips and playing on the strategy map slowly will not go well.
if you plan on playing more in the future id suggest playing someone like balthasar gelt in the empire he has a very uniqe playstyle with a lot of magic and magic is stupidly op when you do it right, or someone who is also magic but chaos at the same time Be'lakor (who if im not misstaken by lore is a literal god) is also fun to play especially in the later game where you can get 1k plus kills just on him from magic. Side note love your content ❤
I’d love to see you try and play the Empire! I think that would be very interesting. ❤
Just WAIT till he sees the Vampire Coast.
Bro's first mistake was playing the French. Knew it was over from there
Dude it must be jarring coming from the classics and realistic.
To Warhammer flying units, orcs, pike and shot, etc.
If you just want to hold the line and wipe your enemies with superior fire power, then DWARFS is the faction for you.
They even got a full on airforce now with their latest DLC.
Why does Laith turn more and more into a character of the three musketeers? What is that hairstyle? It‘s banging tho
Laith playing the all knights faction when he instead of THE EMPIRE when he is a fun of lines of infantry etc is a real oopsie. He needs to SUMMON THE ELECTOR COUNTS as KARL FRANZ.
More of Total war Warhammer 3 please
immediately starts recruiting using global - the one that is more expensive and takes twice as long
Total War: Warhammer is great and watching somebody who has no idea discover it is awesome.
More Warhammer!
What is your rig? Your loading times are insanely fast.
i would recomand Skarbrand, hes a khorne lord so no magic and the entire roster is melee units with only skirmishing cav and one arty which also needs to melee to get more ammo.
As for Bretonia, the pessent limit increases with extra setelments, and you wanne spam some extra lords early and have them tag along your main army since they have vows (if you go to skill tree on the top you can get to that window) you gotte do those to get 50% upkeep reduction for your cav units among other boni
more of this game plz
Lords or generals in warhammer are OP, you can create 1 man doomstacks out of many different characters that can take on 4 full stacks
I think you would enjoy playing Skaven.
Man-Thing should play Skaven next Yes-Yes. Which Clan?
I'd prefer an episode two to this episode, I wanna see the brave knighs of Brettonia sally fourth. All five, horrifically overpowered ones.
"You can't make things up" says man playing a fantasy game
Thanks for the breakdown! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
I loved watching Laith using global recruitment all the time :D
wait till he see's the tanks
Never seen anyone playing humies in Warhammer 3
We are so back
i would love to see some other factions being played
Play the dwarfs. They have no magic at all. Just some runes here and there, but most of it is pure explosion, arrows and the unwavering resolve of dwarfen resolve to make their grudges right.
if you love spear man then I would buy Eltharion the Grim DLC he is a big spear guy(gives lots of buff to them plus he has very good early game artilery)
Wasn't expecting TWWH3 from Laith but I'm all for it!
I think you need to try out Clan Skryre (Skaven) they have like green flametrowers and amazing ranged units (like miniguns and lazers)
but no good infantry units XD
Thanks!
That was painful XD I love Warhammer, games and lore
A lot of fun to watch! the game have change quite a bit, and WH3 has a lot of issues, but it is still fun to watch.
This was the most painful video ever. It might actually be torture. Please god read the stuff for next video 😭😭
Hmm Laith playing Warhammer, Such is the power of Natasha I guess.
Man I hate auto correct I meant Nagash.
You chose the WRONG FACTION FRIEND(ch)
Oh no he is going down the warhammer rabbit hole at least it will be interesting and fun to watch when he does some of the other races like the demons or the rats
I really think you should play the vampire coast theyre vampires but also pirates and its really fun
You literally have played it before. This is a lie. There is a video of you playing.
Shit, that's true
Brother it’s long enough ago that I barely remember it
I mean what happened to your channel, 96 views in 3 minutes, completely dead! was expecting millions!
vanila human knights based choice
Laith you should play The Lost God campaign, it's really good!
For a first run well done!
total war: shadow wizard money gang
FOR SIGMAR
