    I had so much casting flash on my intake manifold, had to sand smooth as far as I could reach by hand, did the plenum too. Would have ported but I'd rather top swap first.
    A.R.E. (American racing engines) also makes custom cams and even stroker kits for the 60°s.
    Looking forward to seeing the progress.

    Thanks for this! Especially about running the bigger cams with a computer. Am working on “stroking” an iron 2.8 up to 3.1, and plan on running the larger Comp Cams setup. Finding it very difficult to locate programming options for these older TBI engines, but you’re giving me hope that I’ll see some improvement without for now while I research options.

    The GM 3.1 has a lot of potential for performance upgrades believe it or not my 90 Grand Prix after a full top half rebuild with all performance and bored 60 over with a stroker kit no turbo yet I'm pushing a little under 500hp. Wasn't cheap but very well worth it. If anyone has a 3.1 plenum that says intercooled turbo on it the original one that came with the 3.1 I would pay good money for it to be delivered

    Is it possible to add 50+ actual streetable HP on the 2.8 with double roller timing chain, headers, up graded distributer, towing and RV CAM, flow bench the head (port match intake and exhaust ports, equlize valve stem heights, largest valves that will fit, 3 angle valve job, roller tip rockers new valve springs etc...)? Do they make a hydrolic roller cam for the 2.8? If the 2.8 can be made to run normally I would be willing to give it a try. Sounds like a $3-4K project.

    • @modeverything1

      2.8 iron head? Or 2.8 aluminum head Gen II? Its possible, but you will probably need more cam than an RV spec.

    I just picked up an 89’ 2.7 Z24 Cavalier I’d love to mod at least a bit to get even a bit more than 135. As my old Fiero made 149 from what’s essentially the same engine.

    My 3.1 v6 in a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix will run until it gets to operating temp and then spider misfire and stall out. Then it will not start for a while. I changed plugs n wires and camshaft position sensor and a coil pack but still same problem. Any ideas? I’m ready to sell the car because I’m so tired of nothing working.. some say a vacuum leak which could be but I don’t have equipment to figure it out.

    • @modeverything1
      @modeverything1  4 роки тому +2

      Sounds like a problem I had with one of my old Cavaliers, would work fine until it was up to operating temperature the start back firing/missing and would not start if you shut it off for at least 15-20mins... turned out to be a bad coolant temperature sensor, it would short out when up to temp, and read -40 on the scanner.
      Next time it won't start, try unplugging the coolant temperature sensor, and see if it will start for you! Or just put in a new sensor to rule it out, I don't think that they are too expensive!

      Throttle body upgrade is probably the simplest to do, or you can do the 65mm like I did in another video. Upgrade the exhaust to a 2.25" or 2.5" free flowing setup. Headers are great if you can still find them, and have someone with HP tuners do a custom tune on the pcm. Other than that your looking at porting and polishing, cam upgrade and turbocharging!

      All depends on how much money you want to spend and how much power you want. You can get more power from the iron head 2.8 like you have but for same money you can swap to a 3400/3500 and have more power! Unfortunately I have too many projects on the go for this year to keep me busy lol

Does it make more sense to buy all new bigger injectors or just go pull used injectors out of a 3400

    • @modeverything1
      @modeverything1  3 роки тому +2

      91 should be the gen II 3.1l. 1994 is when they started getting the 3100's. I put a complete 3400 in my old 1992 Lumina it worked great!
      Yes you can use 3400 heads/intakes on your 3.1 but you will need more than just the heads/intakes. You will need a throttle cable from a 3100 lumina/Grand Prix/Monte Carlo, 3 wire coolant temp sensor from a 2.2L cavalier iirc, egr you will have to make an adapter or try to wire up the newer style, if you have a 3spd trans you will have to rig up a tv/kick down mount on the throttle body. Check out this video to see what I did on mine ua-cam.com/video/yAQ4U2TsfVM/v-deo.html

    • @modeverything1
      @modeverything1  3 роки тому

      There is lots that you can do! I would start by making sure the tune up stuff is all good, spark plugs/wires, fuel filter... then look into higher flowing exhaust and air filter.
      After that you're moving into the engine with upgraded camshaft, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, throttle body...
      After all of that you will want to look into getting the PCM recalibrated for the improvements. Even if you just do exhaust and air filter a performance chip/ecm recalibration would help!

      N/A with cam, ported iron heads, headers and throttle body upgrade you could probably get around 200 crank hp without going too crazy. If you went turbo you would be 240hp+. If you wanted to swap to 31/3400 heads and intakes you would pick up at least 25hp from the start before doing anything else!
