I think I could have watched you work for another half hour. To watch a craftsman with the experience you have...well, it's worth every minute. Since I can no longer do that kind of work I'll just sit in my chair and enjoy the ride Mr Buckin. Thanks for bringing this old man along. Always did enjoy a jaunt in the 🪵 woods.

That was very well orchestrated and thought out. So much time and effort saved with a little prep. Way to go not getting in a hurry. I've watched for a while but been silent. I've learned more watching you work of how to work safely and with confidence that the tree is going to do what I want it to. Just today was cleaning up around my lake and had no choice but to fell one in the water. I had a strap hooked up before I ever started purposely left a high stump so I could cut a notch in it for the strap to get the lift needed to get it up and out of the water. It looked like something you would come up with. You have to be creative when you're working alone with limited resources. Be kind and thanks for the real life experience
Yes..haha. But Billy does have a knack for rolling big logs around, it would have been nice for that log to have ended sitting on the rounds off the ground for bucking. He nearly did that...I thought it would have hit the ground before the 1st set of rollers, but id didn't and moved onto the second set of rollers. That is a lot of forward thinking you only get from doing this stuff over & over. Hogan is good at it too, I bet if he was there to position more rollers the log would have gone anywhere they wanted it too. They both certainly have a knack for that sort of stuff. Its MUCH nicer bucking rounds when a log is off the ground. It makes cutting way more enjoyable.
Logrolling on dry land. . . NANAIMO STYLE 💪✊ 4000 pounds in the bed and the Ford hardly looks settled in 😎 Thanks for bringing us along amigo, nice day in the bush!
Awesome video of splitting wood and this truck and stuff reminds me of when I was a kid and with my dad getting wood he’d cut with the 288 and I’d stand up the rounds for him to split with his true temper double bit that was my great grandfathers and then we’d load up up the truck till full 2 face cords in the 76 Chevy, good memory’s and the work I’ve loved doing all my life and it’s fun pulling trees with chain or rope and nice seeing your truck working the way it’s supposed to 💪
Your kindness and brotherly love is absolutely contagious!! I feel like you’re the father I never had. Thank you friend! I’m passing along the kindness you’ve shared with me! I’m in love with this beautiful truck!! I hope to find one like it!! Good bless!!
"... and, they were to it and at it. And at it and to it. You gotta tune your attitude in. If you don't get at it when you get to it. You wouldn't get to it to get at it again... " Stompim Tom... Yea!!!
Those ole Fords with HI/LO transfer case, put 'em in lo and they are basically a tractor....good show Buckin'. Also, ropes are more forgiving than chains.
Hey Billy, i wanted to give you this donation as a thank you. You really brighten up my days! If you'd allow me to ask, why do you push love, kindness, and respect so much? Is there a reason for it? Did something in your past cause this? I mean it doesnt bother me, i am just wondering. I love your messages, and give my absolute best to pay it forward, you know, to keep the 'what comes around goes around' wheel spinning. I am only curious. Love you, your videos, and all that you do. I wish you all the best going on in life, i wish you the best health. And i pray that the love and kindness you share comes back tenfold to you! Have the best day you could possibly have :)
You are amazing for commenting back to people, very cool. I am sitting here working on the computer and I have you playing in the background. :) GOOD STUFF. I will go over and watch some from time to time, haha. But always watch at night.
I use my 4x4 pickup as a skidder lots , the best ones are the ones you can quickly buckup right where you fell them , but to save time or make it safe I skid them 🇨🇦👍
Thanks for the video man - looks like you are getting around great on that Knee! Seeing the log jump from the first set of rollers to the second was really satisfying!
Great stuff BBR, I've got an old climbing rope, much abused. I ring through the old man pine we have in NZ and then having left a branch as a fulcrum, pull it over to get the underside.
Yeah, but it’s even easier if you put the transfer case in low-range. That truck almost assuredly has an NP205 t-case which by itself has a 1.96-1 low gear ratio, then combine that with the granny gear on the transmission which probably has about a 6.5 or 7-1 gear and you’ll have all the gearing that you need. So call it a 6-1 multiplied by 2-1 and you easily have a 12-1 gear. Not fast but REAL easy on the clutch plus since you won’t get up any speed (if you drive easy) you “might” stall the engine but most likely not with a good and healthy engine. If you go ahead and lock in the hubs you most likely (in this case) will never spin your tires. I’ve spent all of my life around 4X4’s and worked for some time in a 4X4 specialty shop and I showed the boss more things that he didn’t know that amazed him that he was flabbergasted about and it just left him speechless. Gears are your FRIEND, you just have to know when to use them and when NOT to. Ask me about this stuff anytime.
@@ToddAdams1234 Yes I use low range on my Durango when backing up my trailer or pulling the boat out of the water. His truck has locking lugs maybe he is still in 2wd.. anyway it worked.
Todd... now there's a real gear head..😂 Lot of knowledge in that cranium. I love it when you can school the boss with logic and experience. But some guys don't like it and resist, that's being closed minded. It hinders the work flow. Glad you had someone open to your suggestions. 👍
@@jirusjirus9322 thank you for your OPEN MINDED and willingness to hear my explanations and what is really an easy way to let leverage be your friend. It’s the same scenario as with a “block and tackle”, gears. Dad showed me this stuff YEARS ago before I ever even heard of any of the much more common learning scenarios that a person can run into today. Remember what one of the great Greek philosophers said, give me a lever long enough and I can move the world, same concept. With a tiny single cylinder low RPM engine and enough gear-reduction you can pull over massively rooted trees, or even giant buildings. Traction is a completely different topic that’s beyond the scope of my talk about gearing today though. However with enough gearing and traction it’s extremely easy for the most massively well built things (like vehicles) to break. So a person MUST be careful. It’s so easy to go overboard in anything. Oh, that theoretical 12-1 that I talked about a little earlier, no multiply that by your differential ratio as well say a 4.10 (we’ll call it 4 for easy math) 12x4 is, well, you’ve got the point I was trying to illustrate earlier by now because you read everything earlier with a very open mind. GO BBR!!! I love his and he’s schooled me in many things, but I’ve got the trucks, gears, leverage, and traction down. I originally came here for the tree felling, then chain sharpening, then axe hafting. Now I just like his brand of entertainment. I would like to go to Bunyan this year to meet him or a Buckinstock sometime, but it’s not in the cards because of financial issues that we will NOT discuss here. Anyway, I’d just like to hang out with peeps and learn-n-listen. Who’s ya say what could happen…I could possibly even bring my small big-block saw (my 372 but it’s an xtork) but with nothing but a SUPER EASY (no welding or soldering) muffler mod it still pulls well enough that my 30” bar and chain makes ME smile. BTW, yes I said 3 0 or 30”. Oregon makes that size in at least 2 different mounts, D009 like many Huskies take and a (I think) DO25 like Stihl MS360-MS660, but it’s not the same for larger Stihls (880) or smaller (260). I even had an Oregon dealer give me one of his older catalogs that was not current (I sold car parts for 30yrs and I know my way around paper catalogs so I’m no stranger to them and even showed him a few things about the catalog while I was there) and I was able to come up with the part number and contemplated on it for a bit. 1 dealer in my area had a 32” bar but the saw didn’t like to pull it well (but right on the verge) so I called Madsens out of Washington state and they had a 30 in my D009 mount. My saw is happy and I am happy. Now if only I could find a lightweight version…well I’ll most likely have to get a 32” Stihl and turn it “into” a 30 (I’ve already done it on another bar so I know it’s a “doable” thing) and I’ve got Cannon adapters to go from my 372 to that wider Stihl mount and just happened to run across (in stock locally) a good metal working file for just such things (like lengthening the bar slot 😉) so I’m fairly confident that I can make it work. BTW, 30” bars take 98 drivers for a 3/8 chain but 32” takes 105 an 28” takes between 91-93 depending upon what it’s going on and how it’s set-up. Did I ever mention that I tend to be full of useless information (according to my wife). Now if I could just get my filing down well enough so that I DON’T have to file both cutters (left AND right) from the same side, my files sure would last longer. My problem is that I’m EXTREMELY right handed, so much so that if something happened to my right side I’d be so poor off that it’s not even funny. BUT we all have limitations. Every, one, of, us! Sorry about the novel 😱😟
Beautiful setup for the next load. I gotta say that did not seem like 30 minutes Buckin. Love watching the show I just can't get enough. Love ya brother thank you. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
Nice video Billy. Through your videos, I was able to help myself recently with a pine bush. The bush (approx. 3m long, approx. 1.50m wide and approx. 4.0m high) should be felled. There was a VW transporter on the neighboring property, so no branch was allowed to fall. When you're in the tree and sawing off branches, you start sawing at the top. And saw down slowly so that the branch slowly lowers and you can then guide the branch by hand to where the branch should go. I did the same with some branches and the transporter was not damaged by the branches. Have a nice weekend. Greetings from Germany

The only UA-camr worth having notifications On! Love an old Ford truck, my dad has a 56, and I have a 64 long box style side. Serious Sharpening question friends… On a .325 chain, using the recommended 3/16 file -- do you first file with downward pressure to “get the gullet, and 2nd clean up your working corner? Or do you file the gullet only and hope for the best up on the plate? Thanks 🙏
A lot of work and ingenuity went into making that happen. I almost hate to see a truck in that good of shape working out in the bush like that but I guess it was built for working. 😎👍
I do a lot by myself. It takes longer, of course, and people will hem and haw about just asking for some help. But I say what's the challenge in that? Thumbs up.
