Another tool no one else wanted to fix. I really love seeing old tools brought back to life. Thanks Brian. Hi Baily I miss your sweet smile. Stay safe God Bless.
I've got an old Black & Decker valve grinding machine I am restoring. It's nearly finished and have actually used it some. Just need to rebuild the coolant pump now.
I have to nominate your ingenious use of choreographed camera angles for a CTOPA (Coat Tails Observational Perspective Award) ... now everyone is going to duplicate that so I'd copyright that ...
I grind piston to sleeve clearance to 50 millionths on a Studer grinder for the aerospace valves I build where I work. Ground a lot of stuff but never valves.
Nice work Brian. Looks like its working good as new maybe better than when it was new. I'M sure Bailey gave his wag of approval. Give him a belly rub and a treat from me.
It’s great seeing that old top-of-the-line equipment up and running again. I’d bet it wouldn’t be too hard to find a 1940’s Sunnen cylinder block hone to keep your valve & seat grinder company!
Ya nothing better than a thermel cycled and freshly touched up cylinder head to make an engine run smooth. Cool seeing anything K.O. Lee work like new again. Great work!
Your finish will improve a lot with some grinding oil. Also how you dress the wheel will help with rough or more finish grinding. Glad to see you bring that back from the dead.
buen trabajo brian..come te dije en el otro video..te sobra capacidad y conocimiento para arreglar correctamente esa maquina..asi que mi enhorabuena por el rescate de la maquina..un saludo
Brian, make sure when grinding the valves that you use the coolant at all times, it will extend the life of the wheels by a large amount compared to dry grinding. I'm sure you would rather work the valves yourself, instead of letting someone else do it. Take Care and Stay Safe Bob
Value grinding machine sure beats using a post bed grinder and then spending hrs makiing sure the lathe waves and carriage didn't hide some of the dust and rust (@@). Nice job of saving that grinder and getting it back to work. 👍 I live near the well known Sunnen plant but all the shops I worked in all had Sioux grinders. We ran ATF for coolant and I'm sure the pricing had a lot to do with both. Ha-ha. Worked a treat though. Do you have the V-block for facing off the valve stems?
Your machining capabilities certainly out-shined (is that a word?) your camera skills today ... but thats ok! Nice to see the old girl up and running. Thanks for sharing!
Looks like a dandy place to get stuff fixed and fixed right. Not surprised your grind is a lot better than factory. Tell old pal Baily I'll give him a good scratching if I ever get up there and I've been known to eat a murder chicken.... but not raw. GBWYall
Sorry about that but I will have the camera set proper for valve grinding the next time. This was more about the rebuild than the valve grinding process.
There is a local shop that builds speedometer cables for big trucks. I had one custom built for my injection pump test stand a few years ago. I am sure a place like that could make you one.
Hi Brian ☺ good job on the valve grinder, does that one have coolant running over the wheel? , it did a nice grind anyway, it's a useful bit of kit to have, thanks for the video, stay safe mate, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.
Hi Brian, I have a machine like yours and wondered if you could take some pictures and measurements of a piece of this machine. I am missing the entire assembly that holds the valve. I have the handle and outer part of the steel tube (part that rotates) im missing part that actually grabs valve. I would love to speak or email you about it if you have time.
Yeah send me an email. Have you tried leblond? They bought out ko Lee who is the actual builder. Also have you tried Goodson? If they don’t have anything they likely would know who would. I know it doesn’t look like it would be a very easy part to duplicate and it needs excellent accuracy to do good work.

Nice tool in your arsenal! It’s probably tighter than when it was new! Your grinding looked better than factory!! 👍🏻😀
Nice when any overhaul goes to plan. Should save you some time by being able to do these in-house in future :)
I cant imagine the tolerances would be much better Factory. That is a neat little grinder Brian. Doesn't take up a ton of space either. 👍

Good Job Brian that will sever you well and save the trips 2 counties over.
Now a fine addition to the workshop.
I suspect that given the caliber of most engine rebuilds that anything within .01" is probably about average for valve grinding quality.
Goodson is a good place to get stones. The ruby stones do a good job on most valves.
I looked thru their catalog last night.
Another job well done .
My brother has the exact machine in his shop. Used daily

That error is why you lap the valves to finish
