"You don't always understand when you truly love someone until after they're gone." I love all of her lyrics and this one specifically just hit home.

She really deserves her first name Angel.

I first heard this back in 2013 when I was at my cousins apartment in echo park
He just relapsed after 7 years sober and was scared for his well being and asked if I could fly down to be with him
I had a bunch of mental health issues of my own and was a 20 at the time and didn’t know what was wrong with me and honestly in no position to be able to help anyone not even myself
I was having rolling panic attacks and even getting on the plane was a nightmare of an experience
I heard this at like 2 am unable to sleep sleeping on the ground in another room and just thinking damn this isn’t how college or my youth should be spent
And I heard this song and the ending with her chamber echo howling of the soul made be burst into tears
I’ve never forgotten this version because of that night and don’t think I ever will

When i heard this song it felt like i already knew it in a nostalgic way. I think i just felt the same feeling when i lost my dad and felt alone in the universe because i isolated myself so much then.

Parts of this sounds just like the melody to The Letter by The Box Tops.
So beautiful in it's own respect though.

    Your hands were cold
    Your voice was shaky
One morning not too long ago
And at the time I was only a child
About to lose my childlike mind
The way you touched my hands
    Like you never had before
    It wasn't you anymore
    I called for my brothers
    I called for my sisters
But there was nothing left for them to do
And so I watched from far away
    As the ambulances came
    And started dressing for school

    Goodbye sweet mother earth
Without you now I'm a lonely universe
    You won't always understand
    When you've truly loved someone
    Until after they've gone

This time of year the nights fall longer
So grow a spine or catch cold
The winter months they do make you feel stronger
But in the end it's all getting old
And you won't always be walking the safest streets
But you can find your way home
If you have imagined your way back
Then my dear you're more than halfway there
    And you might only possess
What you've carried on your back
    But you've always been free
    Now it's time to believe
Time to give up that unforgiving act of altogetherness
And start living out your oldest childhood dreams
Well, losing your minds it ain't half as bad as it seems
And if you would take the risk
Well, it might be worth your time
    It's only your life
    It's only going by

    Goodbye sweet mother earth
Without you now I'm a lonely universe
    You won't always understand
    When you've truly loved someone
    Until after they've gone

      is this live?

    • @tomroberts5805
      @tomroberts5805 8 років тому +4

not quite. i believe this was a track off her limited edition version of "halfway home" originally this was recorded from the "stranger cacti" album but this was obviously taken for later use. Before she met Emmet Kelly she didn't know how to vocal harmonise so I'm presuming this was taken from later on in time when she had learnt such things....
