10 years ago, on 28th March 2013, the Ministry of Justice carried out the decision as part of the national reorganisation of prisons, to close seven “old and uneconomic” public-sector prisons in a bid to cut costs.
It's fascinating to hear about your experience at the prison during that time. The receptionist area definitely holds a lot of memories for those who have been through it.
looks like a holliday camp compared to the old barlinie prison ray ,there were no toilets in the cells ,i would say the toilets got addded to this prison as well later on ,it was called slopping out in the mornings ,everyone carrying piss pots 3 landings, the floor was metal grates so piss would spill from top to bottom ,the shit went out the window .never go to prison they are nasty places Ray :)
I'm not kidding, some young lads I spoke to didn't believe me when i said back in the day we had no bogs, 1984, I'll never forget the experience. It's how prison should be. Nasty.
@@LI3TOM3 sure do, they're also allowed out of cells numerous times a day, roaming the wing, playing snooker, table tennis, unlike the 23.5 hours locked up with nothing which i remember. The screws are often young women straight from a supermarket checkout or whatever, totally unsuited to the job, it's surreal.
It sounds like you have experienced some harsh conditions in the old Barlinie prison. The lack of basic facilities like toilets in the cells must have been very challenging. It's unfortunate how conditions like that were once considered acceptable. Thank you for sharing your insights.
Good old shitunsmellit, a sad sorry excuse for a town. High street was once a lively welcoming place would you believe it. Now if you walk down the bottom end past all the empty shops you get glass bottles thrown at you by dragon chasers.
I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience in the town. It's unfortunate to see how places can change over time. Hopefully, there can be positive changes in the future to make it a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.
@@jamiesmart9016 debateable. One could argue the retail park brought jobs and income into an already dead town. I remember the town was dying before it got built but i admit a few more of the pubs were open back then..
👍 good explore
Wonder why it closed down

It's good to know it's there, I know lots of unofficial holidaymakers who should be here.
Is this a museum now?
Yeah it’s £15 entry and £3 parking
@@HIDDENHISTORYWITHRAY that's expensive! Back in the day you could spend years there for free! 😁✌️

The retail park killed town then Europe took it over, it's always been rough but the bottom end is dead 😢
