I just tested since some people asked. You CANNOT use Sonar settings with console at the same time. When you switch USB devices it completely disconnects from the other. For example once you switch from USB-1 (using PC) to USB-2 (PS5), Sonar on your PC won't detect the GameDAC Gen 2 at all.
Bought the hyper x cloud 3 for me they are wayyy to silent idk if I schould buy this steel series nova pro wired for pc also I need to hear footsteps as loud as possible and precise

I made these sound amazing. Between Dolby and the eq on the DAC. Took me three days but these can sound amazing if tuned right. Super deep lows and mids. Way more bass and volume to play with than my ears can handle and I DJ.
My Only disagreement with you is the sound quality. My son also running the wireless and we agreed that the sound quality of the wired version is A step up to us. IMHO the wired version sounds came closer to the penrose
Very interesting review. I would like to add my experience with the Nova pro Wireless witch I bought yesterday after I used the Artis 9 wireless for some days and was not that satisfied with the Arctis 9. Well, it is a gaming device, but I wanted a headphone which also is good for listening to music. I think, when music sounds good, a game also sounds good. After adjustements through the Sonar-Software. I tested with Ted Nugent`s Stranglehold and wow: That rocks. Before I heard School Days from Stanley Clarke and the baseline of that song is presented just sharp, present and so powerful. WOW. Also Paco de Lucia/Al di Meola, Dave Brubeck or Blue Mitchell sound so well. But what I strongly recommend besides all those great rewies - this included - if possible test not only whether the headphone fits to your head, test the sound, listen to your favourite music in the shop if possible. Wait some days, do not buy without testing and listening for yourself. I did not follow my advice, I wanted a new headphone and I wanted it now. :) If I had given me more time and would have looked for opportunities to listen to headphones I am interested in (the Penrose included) I think that I would have bought another headphone, and maybe I would have spent more money. Neverthelesse the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless delivers a really sharp and powerfull sound, IF the source has the appropriate quality. !!!!!!!!! To my taste it lacks a little of capabilities in the mid and higher range. On the other hand, I still know HOW Stanley Clarke and Ted Nugent sound when delivered through a three-way bass reflex box and I doubt that even a Audeze Penrose can cope with that. Compared to the Arctis 9 wireless, which is 200 Euros cheaper, I like the Nova Pro Wireless better: It sounds better, has more power, the design is better, functionality is good and control buttons are placed in an ergonomical way. Further I do not feel those ANC nipples inside the speakers of which in some reviews problems are mentioned. I can wear it for some 2 hours and do not feel any uncomfortness. But it fits a bit tight, just a littel bit tight. Hope I could give some useful information. That´s just my experience. Regarding the sound I - just me - am blown away. Hard, sharp, powerful and distinguishable.
Great review! I really like the Nova wired perhaps more so than you.. Been playing a variety of games lately, BF2042, Division 2, Forbidden West all sound fantastic to my ears. What I really like is crip audio, imaging and sound stage. I can live w/ out a little bass. I have to check out the Penrose since you speak so highly of them.
you can pull out tons of bass with this headset the penrose doenst come close in terms of bass i sold my penrose for these last week i even tryed the new turtle beach stealth pro's and well it sounded really good( better then the penrose) it still wasnt as good as the nova pro wired with gamedac, i think this guy hates steelseries or something the nova pro wired is the best headset ive ever heard so far even the maxwell isnt as good.
24-Bit falls in the same issue with FPS. After 144FPS you can't really see the difference, but you feel it. When you go from 240FPS back to 144FPS you definitely both see it and feel it until it settles in your mind. This mostly holds true for very high end headphone drivers.
@@Athyxion No the headset is good, he explained the high resolution audio depends on the source. although i'm stiill interested in the huge frequency range. i might still buy them maybe when the y go on sale
I think the performance/immersion mode is like in Dolby Atmos, so that, when using Atmos or spatial audio in-game, the game may be able to apply extra effects to simulate path-tracing (reverb, echo, distorsion, etc.) that get added on the sounds on top of the virtual spatial audio effect already present. So it is supposed to tone that down so you can pinpoint sounds better... but from my experience games rarely go overboard with those effects to begin with so almost useless tbh. The Astro team does recommend leaving it fully set to Performance, at least with Dolby, for what's it's worth.
Excellent review! I picked up the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless Pro to upgrade from an Arctis 7X. I didn't like that the ear cups are smaller. I find them uncomfortable even after swapping to Wicked Cushions because they don't fully cover the ear. I also heard that the Arctis Nova Pro wired caps at 48 kHz when using Sonar and the DAC. is that true? I can't seem to get 96 kHz on the wireless. Maybe it only support it without Sonar but not sure. I couldn't really hear much of a difference between the Arctis 7X and Nova Pro Wireless. Is there a current Steel Series that you can recommend that is similar to the 7X with high-res audio, larger diameter ear cups, not as tight clamping and a better mic?
What would you say is the best for multiplayer games where you can talk to friends (hear them without overpowering the game and have a good mic to talk to them) but also be able to hear surround sounds like footsteps and shots? I am on PS5 so a wired headset is preferred as wireless headset that is not the ps5 elite one the sounds are dampened and mic’s are terrible so idk what to do.
Bad intent is the reason I bought the PC38x. Now I just did a hybridized set up as I wanted to see what would happen if I run my pc38x through my nova pro wireless dac, would it boost the audio profile and directional sound and would it increase the sub bass. Incredibly, all of that did. Previously, the PC38x was already fantastic for gaming, but movie watching it lacked sub bass. Connecting it to the Nova Pro Wireless DAC, using the smiley preset, oh my goodness did it sound amazing and the sub bass was finally there. I tested this out with Transformers revenge of the fallen and even the directional audio cues were enhanced via the DAC. So I don’t have the wired version of the nova pros but I have the Xbox version of the nova pro wireless and I disagree on one thing. The sub bass in the nova pro’s rumble and easily compete with my Audeze Penrose X. I’m considering buying a used Xbox version of the nova pro wired to have the game dac gen 2 for wired headphones eq and amplification for both my XSX and PS5.
You mentioned that this headset is weak in terms of bass. How does it perform once you increase the bass frequencies via the dac? I currently own Sennheiser GSP 300, but I can barely feel the bass, and thinking of switching to Arctis Nova Pro having heard that it has more bass when compared to mine.
I bought the Xbox version even though I only own a PlayStation because I might buy a Xbox some day to play some older games or I might just save up for a pc but I would need to upgrade my whole set up
I need help, what is the main difference between wired and wireless version of the Nova Pro? I would like to use it with my ps5, and sometimes with my laptop, but in general with my ps5. Which model should I choose?
I don't know if you noticed at the 3:27 minute, but the DAC screen is glitchy. (Black Bar-Artifact on USB-1 Text) I have that same problem. Did you noticed and solve this problem?
How good is the GameDac 2 in isolation - eg using the PC38x with it - thinking of a Schiit Hel 2 for PS5 use, but the multi console compatability of the GD2 appeals (shame it's not sold separately though).
I don't have many other DACs to compare it to besides the MixAmp and motherboards. And ofc those little ones bundled with most headsets these days. Compared to all those, the GameDAC Gen 2 is louder, but the headphone audio you'll get from it isn't better or worse. Headset mics definitely benefit from the clean gain though. Gadgetry Tech is really into amps, so he could be a good person to ask.
You can EQ it, but it will never have much. Still looking for a headset with really good bass... Closest I've found is a heavily EQ'd Audeze Penrose and the Drop + EPOS PC38X.
What about for wired connection and NOT USB? meaning.. I want to use the 2 wired connections on the back on my PC for audio, NOT USB for audio... would that still work with this unit?? I see the 2 outputs...
I think I am going to return my SteelSeries Arctis Nova pro and buy the HyperX Cloud Orbit S with head tracking capability. It’s on sale new for $180 and It has bigger drivers than the Penrose and has the same drivers the Audeze Möbius has.
Please, my question is regarding the microphone settings that I modified on the gg program, can I copy it to my dac to use it on the Xbox, because I liked it?
When I use my steelseries arctic pro+GameDAC in mw2 I shoot someone with the option DTS on it seems that it makes the (kill sound ) make high wind sound when I kill them….sorry I don’t know how to explain it
Does anyone know if the mic EQ can be controlled via the GameDAC or is this only a PC option? I want to be able to customize my mic on my PS5 but I am not sure if this is possible or not?
If you like bass then the A40 is better. If not, then the Nova Pro is probably a better choice. Overall I dislike the Nova Pro wired and sold it. I also think buying it with the DAC makes it overpriced.
Hello! I have a question and was wondering if you could help me, ive owned and used these exact headphones for about a year now and i seem to get really intense aching/swelling in my outer ear, the cartilage right before the entrance to the canal, but only on the left ear. It happens after an hour or so, the suction feels super intense. I love the headphones otherwise and i don’t wanna get rid of them Anyone else experience this? If so, how do I fix this or find a solution? It’s driving me insane and ruins my experience
I have a question. I have the shure mv7 microphone. On the DAC I can connect the shure mv7? I want stream on xbox series x. Thank you so muche for the answers
I haven't actually tested, but it shouldn't work. The headset input is only for a 3.5 mm cable. The other two USB C ports are to connect to a PC or console and only one of those can be active at a time. So if you have the Series X connected, you wouldn't be able to use the MV7 with it anyway.
Have the Astro a40 mixamp tr pro…just ordered these so I can maybe hear footsteps better in mw2. How would you say these 2 headphones compare to one another? Which one is better for footsteps? Xbox messed up with not including an optical port
It will help a little because of the EQ curve, but it won't be drastic (at least it wasn't in my case). The main difference is the Nova Pro has a lot less bass but it's more detailed.
I got these and I was severely dissatisfied. I was looking for an alternative to my Astro a50’s for gaming. When it comes to ease of use, comfortability, battery life; these are hands down better. But I was never able to fine tune the eq either through sonar or the game Dac to what I needed. When trying to increase footsteps it seemed to muddy everything else. The spatial audio was odd and I didn’t like it compared to the astros Dolby feature. I think a good part of this comes down to the games I play. I really only play halo and r6, and in both of those no matter the preset I couldn’t get them consistent. I would always end up hearing the people really close to me, but those further away would get drowned out. When it came to my a50’s all I had to do was search for r6 a50 eq and bam I could hear everyone. And it wasn’t just me who noticed my lack of directional sound. When I would play customs with my friends they would say that I could 1v1 them with never having to drone at all. That’s how pinpoint the sound was for the a50’s. Part of this I contribute to my eq on the a50’s and how long I had used them. But with the nova pro I find myself relying more on the individual different sound cues. So instead of hearing exactly where someone was I would get a general idea and have to use more detail. For example I’d have to distinguish the sound between carpet and tile rather than being able to hear where they were exactly. In conclusion, I would recommend the a40’s over both of these headsets. The a40’s provide even clearer sound quality than the a50’s with a better mic than both of the aforementioned headsets. The arctic pro is a great headset if you’re not exactly the most competitive person.
Will this work with an Elgato I use ps5 to play and a HD60X to my pc to stream, I was hoping to get wireless but wouldn’t know how chat audio recording would work, as I normally use chat link with my current analog headset
I use an Elgato Wave 3. Plug your Elgato USB into a PC if you want to use Wave Link or your console for power. Plug a TRRS t splitter into the GameDAC main jack and then plug your headphones into the headphone jack and Elgato into the microphone jack
But can you run hifi mode on the ps5 cause that was the limit of the steelseries artics pro last Gen also I mainly cod and r6 ranked are rhe novas for me?
Okay so my question is if you go to sonar mic settings and turn on ai noise cancellation or noise reduction.when I switch to my Xbox series x do I lose these features . My biggest problem is My mike is picking up all my background noises clicking buttons every little single noise. Also I would like to add which settings do you recommend for background noise cancellation is it the clearcast ai noise cancellation or noise Reduction
i enjoyed the video cause i been thinking about getting the wired but on a different reason. first i ended up returned my second pair of astro a50 that was bricked from there updates. made the return and picked up the nova wireless on release. mainly because of the 2 inputs switch on a click of a button. after using for a week. i ended up selling on facebook market place. due to not enjoying the sound and the comfort. the anc inside earpad tabs didn't favor my ear shape and size. but on pc i did like the sound performance on the pc side but i main use on xbox and that sound was disappointing and this is my first time being a steelseries user. after that being sold, i went a purchased a pair of pc38x being pushed off of a old gen 3 mixamp i had sitting in a closet. now im thinking of getting the wired version to just get the dac and use the nova headset as a paperweight and push the pc38x with the game dac. do you think the gamedac2.0 would be better than the mixamp? with the epos headset than the nova pro wired headset? sorry if my rant doesn't make much sense
I think you have a faulty product? I went from a audeze penrose x to the arctis nova pro wired and it sounds much better in any way and you so no bass? These things have alot of bass when you put a good eq on it mine has alot of bass and really detailed sound so i dont know whats wrong with youre nova pro haha mine blows the penrose away and i use it on xbox btw
What headset would you recommend for ps5? I tried the steelseries 7p+ but they were extremely uncomfortable and were too small for my big head. I fear that the arctis nova pros may be uncomfortable as well.
bought this headset today, was extremely disappointed to find out that it has L/R audio balance disabled, i have hearing problems with my left ear so this is a huge disappointment to me. Shocked that Steelseries would think it is ok to disabled this feature, I wonder if there is a way for me to re-enable the feature.
Bro I just bought this one (wired) for my ps5 but I have issues with gamedac and the issue is when I use the gamedac it mutes my voice my friends can’t hear me but I can hear them, and when I connect the headset to the controller directly(without using gamedac) , there is no issues, so what should I do bro ?
I bought this headset for my ps5 and whenever I plug it into the controller my friends can hear there voice through my headset, did you have this problem and if so how did you fix it?
Tbh as Arctis fans for 5 years. OOTB Arctis are very mediocre, given it's price you can get others headset for better experience. BUT the potential of the hardware and the software's features are what they are worth for. Try Any high-end Arctis + Dolby Atmos(extra cost) + fined tune EQ(hours of tuning) it's perfect for gaming.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Thx for the video, watching it from France. I have a question and was wondering if you could help me, ive owned and used these exact headphones for about a year now and i seem to get really intense aching/swelling in my outer ear, the cartilage right before the entrance to the canal, but only on the left ear. It happens after an hour or so, the suction feels super intense. I love the headphones otherwise and i don’t wanna get rid of them
Anyone else experience this? If so, how do I fix this or find a solution? It’s driving me insane and ruins my experience
I have a question.
I have the shure mv7 microphone.
On the DAC I can connect the shure mv7?
I want stream on xbox series x.
Thank you so muche for the answers
I haven't actually tested, but it shouldn't work. The headset input is only for a 3.5 mm cable. The other two USB C ports are to connect to a PC or console and only one of those can be active at a time. So if you have the Series X connected, you wouldn't be able to use the MV7 with it anyway.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews thank you 🙏🏼
Help! My dac only work 16bit. Xbox x. How change ?
I need help, it’s not connecting to my Xbox even though I’m selecting the Xbox input
Thinking about buying the gamedac gen 2 for Xbox Series X. Anyone use these on the Series X?
Can you use it without gamedac? Like just plug it in the controller for ps5
@@ovgamesffa5403 yes
Also if you get an electric buzzing noise from the Elgato then you'll need a USB isolator
But can you run hifi mode on the ps5 cause that was the limit of the steelseries artics pro last Gen also I mainly cod and r6 ranked are rhe novas for me?
If i play on couch will i be able to use it?
Is there a voice chat (that of teammates) mute button?
Okay so my question is if you go to sonar mic settings and turn on ai noise cancellation or noise reduction.when I switch to my Xbox series x do I lose these features . My biggest problem is My mike is picking up all my background noises clicking buttons every little single noise. Also I would like to add which settings do you recommend for background noise cancellation is it the clearcast ai noise cancellation or noise Reduction
How many meters is the length of the headset cable? please help i play on tv i want to now gamedec version good for me...!?
3.5mm to 3.5mm Audio Cable - 5 pole to 4 pole (4 ft / 1.2m)
2x USB-C to USB-A Cable (5 ft / 1.5m)
Hey bro, what is currently your favorite headset in terms of sound quality?
Audeze Penrose.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews I see, I just wish they didn't have these damn reliability issues :/ Otherwise it would be a no brainer
i enjoyed the video cause i been thinking about getting the wired but on a different reason. first i ended up returned my second pair of astro a50 that was bricked from there updates. made the return and picked up the nova wireless on release. mainly because of the 2 inputs switch on a click of a button. after using for a week. i ended up selling on facebook market place. due to not enjoying the sound and the comfort. the anc inside earpad tabs didn't favor my ear shape and size. but on pc i did like the sound performance on the pc side but i main use on xbox and that sound was disappointing and this is my first time being a steelseries user. after that being sold, i went a purchased a pair of pc38x being pushed off of a old gen 3 mixamp i had sitting in a closet.
now im thinking of getting the wired version to just get the dac and use the nova headset as a paperweight and push the pc38x with the game dac. do you think the gamedac2.0 would be better than the mixamp? with the epos headset than the nova pro wired headset? sorry if my rant doesn't make much sense
I think i followed most of what you said lol. But yeah the GameDAC Gen 2 is definitely better than the MixAmp .
I was wondering why your reviews always focus on Playstation or PC. Do you NOT own an Xbox console? Just wondering.
Yeah, the last Xbox I got was a 360. I pretty much stick to whatever consoles fighting game tournaments are being run on at the time.
Uh huh..
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews haha im serious man i sold my penrose for these
Mayby your penrose was faulty?
can you use the wireless, wired for better sound quality for being on a pc where u sit prone, and use wireless for playstation
Ever get an answer?
Can you do the whole game/Voice chat audio mix with PS5?
No, PC only.
im having issue of my mic being super quiet
What headset would you recommend for ps5? I tried the steelseries 7p+ but they were extremely uncomfortable and were too small for my big head. I fear that the arctis nova pros may be uncomfortable as well.
I have a full heaset buyers guide on my channel.
bought this headset today, was extremely disappointed to find out that it has L/R audio balance disabled, i have hearing problems with my left ear so this is a huge disappointment to me. Shocked that Steelseries would think it is ok to disabled this feature, I wonder if there is a way for me to re-enable the feature.
If you play on console, I’m pretty sure that In the consoles audio settings, you can control it, if not, would enabling mono audio help?
@@Speedy.2ss mono would make it worse as it will make them both identical and he needs the left to be much louder im guessing with context provided
Do you know the settings for PS5?
I was wondering, when I have my ps5 and pc connected and on at the same time can I hear both audios at the same time?
Not sure about the wireless version, but wired you have to swap between one USB input or the other. Can't hear both at the same time.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews man that sucks. I have Astro a40’s now so I can hear both at the same time. This will definitely make me think about it
I’m stuck between getting these or the nova 7
Personally, I think this sounds better and is more comfortable.
what is line in port
Bro I just bought this one (wired) for my ps5 but I have issues with gamedac and the issue is when I use the gamedac it mutes my voice my friends can’t hear me but I can hear them, and when I connect the headset to the controller directly(without using gamedac) , there is no issues, so what should I do bro ?
I bought this headset for my ps5 and whenever I plug it into the controller my friends can hear there voice through my headset, did you have this problem and if so how did you fix it?
How can i get 96kHz?
At Tis let’s me hear my game while I’m taking tech support calls, so..
I just want a good headset for COD Warzone where I can hear steps and have good bass. I wanna feel like I’m there lol
So do these settings save to the dac? Could you use the eq settings on ps5/xbox????
Yes they save to the DAC. Same settings usable on multiple systems.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews thanks for the reply man.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews It does work but you have to have the dac connected to the pc at the same time to use any of the Sonar settings???
@@Pinkfloyd1173 Yeah, Sonar needs PC connected to work. The basic EQ and settings saves to the DAC, but not the Sonar effects.
3.5 mm jack connect mobil devices ipad phone?
Yeah you can use the 3.5 mm cable with ipads, phones, or anything with that jack.
You know if this work to phone
Tbh as Arctis fans for 5 years. OOTB Arctis are very mediocre, given it's price you can get others headset for better experience. BUT the potential of the hardware and the software's features are what they are worth for. Try Any high-end Arctis + Dolby Atmos(extra cost) + fined tune EQ(hours of tuning) it's perfect for gaming.
So can you adjust the game/chat audio while using these on ps5?
No, Sony killed that functionality for most devices.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews that sucks!
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Thx for the video, watching it from France. Let me know ive understood well, if i plug my PS5 & PC on the same time, i can hear my ps5 & lets say a video on my PC at the same time with this wired version, and still be able to balance the volume between both ?
Also do the presets for the mic with SONAR will be applied even on PS5 ?
Thanks a lot for the review !!!
@@saidlou First part, no. You can plug PS5 and PC in at the same time, but you have to switch the audio from one or the other.
As for the second part about Sonar presets for a mic on console, I didn't actually think to test due to the first reason. I don't see how it can work, but I'll try to get around to checking for sure.
Crystal clear. Ty for your time :)
does the ps5 version's PC port works with Series X?
No unfortunately
