Hell yeah number 400!!!! 400 episodes of pure greatness. 400 episodes of dedication. 400 episodes of helping so many. Thank you so much Vince. You are an absolute treasure to this community, thank you so much for all you do for all of us. Cant wait to watch the next 400.
This series is like the grand library of painting tutorials and guides. People will be referring to this series for years to come. Absolutely phenomenal work! Congratulations on the big 400!
What a wonderful homage, full of great advice. In my early 40s now and I often think back to the lyrics of 'Everybody's Free To Wear Sunscreen'. Thanks so much for all the videos Vince. Your content is a real pleasure to watch. All the best.
The "But trust me on the sunscreen." energy going on here reminds me that you are definitine of the cheif custodians of this wonderful little nook we've all carved out for ourselves.
Congratulations on yet another amazing milestone Vince! The hobby community is incredibly lucky to have someone as passionate as you in our ranks, your videos inspire not only inside the hobby but with so many aspects of life.
"You'll paint all sorts of minis. Beautiful minis. Ugly minis." Well, I'm halfway there. I haven't been in the hobby for long, about two years, and never consistent, but truly, Vince, you have made some of the best painting videos, full stop. This series has so much, and any episode, all the way back to the first one, is full of advice that still encourages and inspires. Thank you for all of this, and I will always look forward to what you do next. And yes, I'll try and paint more. No promises, but I'll try. ^_^
Dang Vince, you made me all emotional with this one. It reminded me a lot of Mary's Schmich Chicago Tribute column "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" popularized by Baz Luhrman in his "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" song. Thank you so much for everything you're bringing to thousands with these videos, helping and guiding us in our hobby. I hope it brings you as much joy as it's driving us to enjoy painting!
Congrats on 400, Vince. Your teaching has been monumental in both the actual skills you impart and the positive relationships you encourage to the artform/hobby. Im probably twice the painter I could have been thanks to you. Cheers!
I haven't even watched 50% of the HC videos yet and you've taught me more about this hobby than anyone else in the couple years I've been doing this. Thank you for everything you do Vince! Here's to 400 more.
Congrats on the 400th Vince, you and others have been a strong reason I decided to give painting minis a try, and grinding my brush skills. Although I'm a miniature painting baby, I've got a good 20 years of experience in digital art and you're advices pretty much apply to any artistic discipline. Surround yourself with like minded and honest people, that will stay positive but will never hesitate to point out your flows. Embrace the grind, trust the process, don't hesitate to restart a paint job from scratch, put your ego on the side. Be respectful and ask advice from people you look up to, and help out the one looking up to you. Learn to color mix.
Thank you very much Vince! I've started mini painting August 2022 after almost 20 years "break" (I painted a few LotR minis in early 00's), and Irealise now that i've been missing out. I can compare my older minis and my newer ones and see the improvement; only compare with yourself of yesterday. Your videos have helped me so much to tackle this journey, the stellar advice you've provided have been immensely helpful. Truly, thank you very much! Here's to another 400 videos!
When I got back in the hobby a couple years ago after a break of a couple decades, I'm so glad to have found Vince, Tabletop Minions and Midwinter Minis as they've been a great source to enjoy painting minis. Thanks!!
I feel like I’ve watched at least 100 of your videos (could be more, probably not fewer), and I think you’ve amassed in one video a philosophy that you threaded throughout those 100+ videos. I’m amazed you found a way to distill it in this one video. Congratulations on 400. Here’s to 400 more.
Caught the first sunscreen reference…. Thought to myself “huh, was that just a fluke”…… caught the second one, “heeey, hang on a second…is he doing”…. Immediately catches the third “oh wow ok, he is. let’s strap in and enjoy this!”
Had a blast hanging out with you Vince and other classmates at his painting workshop on battle damage at the Tabletop Minions Expo in Oshkosh, WI today!
Congratulations on 400 Vince. I just want to say that I've been properly painting for 3 years. When I started I made all the beginner mistakes and all the rookie errors and that's obviously fine, that's how we grow. However I discovered your videos and your style was what I needed. No frills, no click bait, no 'and then draw the rest of the owl'. Just simple guidance that can be applied whether with a brush or airbrush. Whenever I'm stuck for a technique, such as sheer fabric, or skin, or how to use specific colours I always know there's a video or 4 of yours I can turn to (your video on Vampiric Skin with Chadukar was invaluable). Recently I've won Best Painted at two local tournaments, the little 3D printed trophies mean more to me than any of the figures I own and sit proudly on my desk. I have you to thank for that. I have you to thank for the advice to paint something that scares you, it's how I found the courage to pick up Kragnos, Lion El'Jonson, Katakros and other centrepiece models that I was scared of painting I just wanted to say thank you. I know without a doubt that I wouldn't be the painter I am without your simple, effective guidance and I will always be grateful.
Vince needed a powdered wig to match this soundtrack! Congrats on 400 Vince! You have the most comprehensive channel on UA-cam and are an inspirational painter! Thank you for being a pillar of the community
I just started painting and got a little demotivated seeing how much I have to learn about colors, light, shadows, shapes and all this artsy stuff. Then I stumbled upon this video and actually shed a tear. Thank you Vince for your kind words and all your videos, you really helped me to keep my head up and keep on painting.
Let’s get into it- I don’t even paint (my boyfriend does and I watch your videos with him). Your videos are awesome. Besides the wealth of knowledge you have on painting techniques, your advice can be applied to basically ANY hobby and even to life in general- it’s so uplifting, inspiring and wholesome. Keep it up and congratulations on 400 episodes! 😀
Thanks so much for 400 episodes, Vince, and congratulations on the milestone, and on the M13 launch! Great meeting you yesterday at TMX, thanks so much for being there and teaching, and for all of your patience and kindness and lessons. The gratitude felt is inexpressible.
Vinny V for sainthood! That was poignant and beautiful brother. Thank you for being a constant force of guidance both in video, and in person. We are better people for it.
This is a good refresher. Beyond all the techniques and products, painting is a medium of artistic expression. It's about communicating things that matter to you. So it's exciting to see so many different styles in mini painting and know that there's no wrong one because they're all making different statements for their artists. Congratulations on 400!
Hi Vince. Congratulations and thank-yous for the 400th HC video. Although I found your channel relatively late and am not generally a mini painter your calm, encouraging and friendly style has helped me to get great pleasure from this hobby. I watched/listened to this video while painting a mouse knight figure from Oathsworn miniatures which is for their Burrows and Badgers tabletop war game. It and the other nine figures I have from the range have given me such enjoyment while painting them, so much so that they are like Pringles - once you pop you just can't stop! I find it very difficult to actually walk away from the painting table, even when it is getting late, because there is always just one small thing I could do before I call it a night! You have made me comfortable with my noob ability level and despite being a perfectionist I can now accept that my output cannot possibly be of top quality as I haven't put the hours in yet (and will likely never do so), but hey, that's okay! Having said that, I can already see improvements in my work and this helps me to enjoy the hobby even more. Some figures I actually look at and think "I really like that!" and am genuinely pleased with and proud of them. This is in great part to your tutorials, encouragement and advice such as "it's your mini, paint it how you want." My only regret is that you have so much going on that you don't have time to do the longer HC videos like you used to do 😔. Here's to another 400 HC videos 👍😁🍾
You got my like in less than a minute. I highly resonate with your 1st tip: been painting since I was 13. I quit every now and then, but I'm on my 40s and I keep painting. Trying to do on daily basis is a life changer. By the 5th minute watching I had to stop the vid and grab the phone just to thank you for all the time you've put into this. Simply put, my life would be a tad worse without you showing from time to time on that little window we got in the living room. Sorry I wrote a crazy amount of text but it got me kinda emotional to think how long I've been sharing my time with your virtual persona. IKR you read every coment. You ever did. So thanks again for your time, your knowledge, your great games (GL w/ majestic13), and most important for entertaining us. Sometimes, life kicks you straight in the * * * and a little distraction is enough to wrap your mind around something that aren't problems. PS. Wife always says "someone has to tell him to lower his camera so it doesn't feel like he's looking up all the time". Thought I was worth sharing her comments too 😊 Hope none of these sounds weird, English ain't even my 2nd language. Cheers buddy ❤
The best advice from greatness (Vince Venturella and Uncle Adam) equals greatest gifts shared to the good of ones ability and the abilities of multiple generations (Ninjon and Miniac) . Possibly one day I hope to have as great an impact in life as you do in this niche.
You’ve been an incredible guiding light in this hobby for me Vince, and I’m super grateful for the time and work you put in to show me how to paint miniatures. If there’s ever a question, a technique, or something I can learn, I guarantee I find it on your channel. Thank you!
Cannot thank you enough for all of these videos. You have created a library that when I’m stuck offer ideas and inspiration to give me the kick to put the brush back onto the model. Here’s to the next 400
Everyone has already said so much, far more eloquently than me, but I just wanted to say thankyou, we've never met but I can honestly say that I feel I know you. Your teaching methods work so much for me and I just need to say Thankyou so much, and we love you man!!!!!
Thank you so much for this. In the last three months my son’s house burned down, my father died, I miss him, and the water heater went out. The only thing that has kept me from the dark side is my wife, painting figures, and this community. Someday soon I might be able to stop replaying Roy Batty’s scene at the end of Blade Runner.
That’s rough man, my condolences on the loss and I am glad mini painting and this awesome community have helped. It truly is cathartic and I’m happy and proud to be part of it with you. :)
I've barely touched your catalog of videos, but I always find what I'm looking for when I'm figuring out a technique within it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you, fellas like you have helped me get back into the hobby. It's appreciated. One day I may make it to a convention, and buy you a coffee or a beer.
Congrats Vince! You prob don't remember me but I went to NOVA a few years ago with the express goal of shaking your hand in gratitude. Congrats on ur success and looking forward to ur future work!
Wow Vince your opening message was exactly what I needed to hear. I have only been painting on weekends when I have a full free afternoon, but you’re right I should be painting when ever I have a bit of time.
So much nice words from you! ❤ I really like you Vince. You are such a nice person. I’m glad that I found this hobby few years ago. It helps me and makes me really happy. Best wishes from Czech Republic ❤
It is a rather emotional presentation this video. Waxing nostalgic and what appears a sincere attempt to improve people's outcomes. I have not seen anyone explore the "details" quite as thoroughly as you have yet, you also claim not to sweat them so much and enjoy the hobby. I have a 40k Warlord Titan that has been a project that is "terrifying" in scope and seems like it will never be "done" but I have learned a TON with that monster: I would recommend something like this to anyone just like you have outlined. You are my first choice to send new hobbyists to for getting started as well as for learning specific techniques in detail: that is your expertise in the extreme, I thank you for your efforts. One thing I have obsessed over is identifying specific pigments as per the art paints: Titanium White PW6, Carbon Black PBk7, Phthalocyanine Blue PB15, Naphthol Red PR17... they help with identifying "equivalents" and not get strange results from multi-pigment mixes. Thanks, I respect the sincerity on the message you convey.
Yeah I’m in that class of watching a bunch, but doing little. I just don’t prioritize the time for it - but love when I do. (Started 90s - dropped until I found you and others about a year ago! Thanks for all you do!)
I said it before. But these videos help me the most. While HC gets me to try a new thing for a mini, this gets me hyped for painting my existing stuff.
Congrats on 400! I've learned so much from HC in my four years of painting, and your videos are the ones i recommend to anyone new to this beautiful hobby. Here's to 400 more at least
Thank you Vince. Your videos have helped me a lot, and especially the Exploring Colors series is something I recommend to everyone who wants to learn something about painting. You helped me with Airbrushing, understanding values and contrast, skin, lighting, universal highlights and shadows, other ways to shade and highlight, how to paint horses, how to paint white cloaks. You helped me paint my best heroes, my best units, my best black armour and my best faces. I think I'll try those Symphony of Season Models soon. Really putting everything to the test.
Vince, I watch every HC video, and I already practice everything you talk about in this video, but it's still important to hear this stuff. Congratulations on 400 HC videos!!! And thank you for them
I might add that alternately, you can perfectly avoid a wet palette altogether and use a plate or a tile or something. I used to really get into wet palettes and I own several brands, but the last two years I've just used a tile and Ive been perfectly happy not worrying about losing paint or whether its moldy or whatever,
Aight, I'm back for 400. Congratulations brother. It must feel incredible. I took a few weeks off from the community - hard as that was to do because it is superlative - because of what you open up with. I badly needed to be painting more and for a long time I had been in a place where I was spending far more time consuming more community content. I was fully aware of it, I just wasn't pushing. It wasn't the problem people experience with not wanting to paint (or wanting to want to paint) - I keep that fire burning. I just haven't pushed myself hard enough to manage the time for it. My Ironjawz saved me though. I have had an IJ army new in box ready to go and I got fed up with not being able to start that project. I would be so mad at myself if something unfortunate were to happen and years later I had never gotten around to it. They're right there. I've needed to finish a project before jumping into it though. During that hiatus I've painted quite a bit of an Impy Fists army it's some of my favorite work to date and it's also been excellent dedicated practice of a few different things - stippling, weathering, and building up my speed muscle. I've got 2 plasma incinerator guys left to finish and they'll be done by tonight!
Yeah, there for a while this year I was just binging content without being very productive on the painting front. Muting the community for a while and hobbying solo, just bearing down and getting after it - paint, paint, paint. Painting as much as I can, every day that I can and going ham on the experimentation. There were multiple times I had to pause and reflect: when did I actually get this good at doing x/y/z thing?
Vince, you're the best, man. Thank you for all of the amazing content and congrats on 400! Also thank you for the great weekend at TMX. Your classes were awesome and I learned a ton. I'll work on those metallic swirly stab's, I promise!!
Here's to 400 more! I never seen such a quality youtuber who spends so much time answering every question in the comment section its very refreshing, thanks vince!
EPIC Wow!! Great summery and thank you for all you continue to do!! You have blessed me with positive motivation and you can do it since my day one of finding you. You have helped me be a better person not just a painter of plastic toys! Keep mentoring all of us and enjoy!! Blessings to you, your wife, your family, your Dogs and your personal journey. Thank you!
Congratulations on hitting 400, thank you for being a calm voice of positivity, both in critique and encouragement. You're a beacon to the community and we're lucky to have you.
Well said Vince keep them coming and spot on with your comments. To be honest since your revelation post Adepticon I actually think your advice videos have improved.
Mate, you're an absolute legend. Just got back into the hobby after 25 years and everything you've said in this video is absolutely on point. Cheers for the mountain of info... And dry wit that you've churned out for all of us lot to digest. o7
Me, not having fully painted a single miniature but having consumed hundreds of how to paint videos, and looking to complete my first squad: Time to plunge down into the valley of despair!!
Many congratulations to you Vince. I hope you realise how much you have helped a lot of painters and hobbyists. Your passion comes through the screen and it inspires us all. Also shout-out to Baz luhrmann ;).
Congratulations to 400 videos of distilled experience and guidance! I really appreciate the bits and pieces of science you tailor into your guides (e.g. color series videos). It helped me to understand the why and not only the how. One additional thought on keeping miniatures: I don't have the opportunity to display most of my work, but I found it really rewarding to gift some of my work to people close to me. This is especially true for some special projects where I tried new things and succeeded. Imo it's one of the most personal gifts you can make and at the same time it just feels good to present something you're really proud of.
First, congratulations on the staggering accomplishement that is 400 videos! Second, thank you, Vince--this was such a heartfelt video, one full of advice that we all need to hear.
Thanks for this video. I've been really wanting to get back to painting my first mini, but all the gorgeous minis and advanced techniques I see on here have me feeling paralyzed with indecision. It's hard not to feel like my mini needs all these fancy techniques to be considered finished and "properly" painted. This video is really helping me to put all that aside and just do the techniques that feel fun and doable for me where I'm at and leave all that other stuff for future minis.
damn man 400 already, i just cant keep up lol, thank you so much for all of your time and effort you put into this, simply the best painting videos on youtube
Thank you Vince. Your Exploring Colors videos have been integral to my growth. I sincerely appreciate your work as I've directly benefitted from the effort you have put into this channel.
Congratulations on reaching 400! Some great process reminders, plus most of all, another great lesson in "perspective." As much as I always enjoy and learn from "getting to the techniques," I think I value your efforts to provide a sense of perspective on one's own journey, as well as on the hobby as a whole, the most. These are great gut and sanity checks---and much appreciated. Thank you for all you have given to this hobby. I look forward to the next 400 videos (don't worry-- I will try to actually paint more too, in between videos! LOL)
I plan to be there, after my divorce and mother passing, I haven’t been competitive painting. I miss hanging with you brother, I’m looking forward to it!
Man I reckon I've watched all 400 of these bad boys and I'm still a crap painter... But I'm MUCH better than I was! Thanks for making these Vince, it's an incredible resource.
You're a pillar of this community, Vince, and I hope you know that.
I’ve been saying this until I’m purple in the face.😂
More than a pillar; Vince is the heart of the community
He really is though
I'd say the bedrock.
Hell yeah number 400!!!! 400 episodes of pure greatness. 400 episodes of dedication. 400 episodes of helping so many. Thank you so much Vince. You are an absolute treasure to this community, thank you so much for all you do for all of us. Cant wait to watch the next 400.
Exactly this!
Yes - Vince is a true giver… 🎉 The community is lucky to have him.
This is the hobby version of 'Everybody's Free' by Baz Luhrman. Brilliant!
I was coming here to say this. Definitely. And it stands.
Same! Vince, what a champ
"But trust me on the contrast."
Hahaha yeah I only came to say "wear sunscreen"
This series is like the grand library of painting tutorials and guides. People will be referring to this series for years to come. Absolutely phenomenal work!
Congratulations on the big 400!
Getting strong "Baz Luhrmann Sunscreen" vibes....lol
Congrats on 400 video's....

The "Wear Sunscreen" speech for the miniature hobby! Well done, and thank you for all of your wonderful videos over the years!
My thoughts exactly! At first I thought it was coincidence, but about halfway through it became clear it was intentional. Great idea
Thank you, Vince, for your commitment to helping us become better painters. Cheers to another 400 HC vids!
The man, the artist, the legend! You are going to live forever. Thank you so much! ❤ ... and trust me on the sunscreen! 😉
Haha, I love the subtle Baz Luhrman homage in this. Your sense of humor is amazing, Vince 😂
Congrats on the 400 and thanks for all your invaluable help. 30 years out of the hobby means I've got a tonne of catching up to do!
Love this. I quote the "wear sunscreen" speech all the time and no one ever gets it!

Okay, I'll do the first one: paint everyday! It sounds like going to the gym and doing exercise!
Thank you, again!

PS. Wife always says "someone has to tell him to lower his camera so it doesn't feel like he's looking up all the time". Thought I was worth sharing her comments too 😊
Hope none of these sounds weird, English ain't even my 2nd language.
Cheers buddy ❤
None of it sounds weird, and it’s all deeply appreciated. :)
Vince likes one of my favorite songs!
Congratulations on this astounding landmark! The hobby wouldn't be the same without you Vince 😊👍
You’re a legend Vince and I don’t say that often, thank you sir.
"Your figure will never be perfect"
Perfectly ROUND thankyouverymuch!
How you feel about painting is how I feel about writing. Picked 40k up specifically to get back into painting as a hobby. Great video man.
The best advice from greatness (Vince Venturella and Uncle Adam) equals greatest gifts shared to the good of ones ability and the abilities of multiple generations (Ninjon and Miniac) . Possibly one day I hope to have as great an impact in life as you do in this niche.
Art truly cannot be seperated from life. Thank you for 400 useful and inspirational videos!
My pleasure!
You’ve been an incredible guiding light in this hobby for me Vince, and I’m super grateful for the time and work you put in to show me how to paint miniatures. If there’s ever a question, a technique, or something I can learn, I guarantee I find it on your channel. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Cannot thank you enough for all of these videos.
You have created a library that when I’m stuck offer ideas and inspiration to give me the kick to put the brush back onto the model.
Here’s to the next 400
Vince, you're such a cornerstone of this community. Thank you for helping me in my journey.
My pleasure!
I’m glad I learned to paint from videos like these, that give me the freedom to experiment and play with my paintings.
Holy Larry! 400 videos! Wow. Congratulation, Vince.
Thanks Vince. This was really nice to hear. Also thanks for the background noise while I scrape mould lines off my 70th blood letter.
Thank you, fellas like you have helped me get back into the hobby. It's appreciated. One day I may make it to a convention, and buy you a coffee or a beer.
Thank you for this message of hope. This hoppy isn't always easy but you sure make it simpler.
Thank you 400 times ! Always great to listen to your advices, not only painting techniques, but also how to live a good, satisfying hobby life.
Congratulations Vince. True service to the painting community
Thank you, I appreciate all of that and happy to help anytime.
Welcome back, sometimes a break is necessary, but good to hear you’re diving into the hobby.
Keep working - you can do it! :)
Here's to 400 more! I never seen such a quality youtuber who spends so much time answering every question in the comment section its very refreshing, thanks vince!
Always happy to help. :)
A violin instructor gave me the best advice ever when I was frustrated if I was still pretty lousy: "you are at a legitimate skill level."
So much wisdom packed into 15 minutes! Thank you for your time, passion, and lessons about this awesome hobby.
My pleasure!
And dry wit that you've churned out for all of us lot to digest.
o7
Congratulations, Vince, and thank you so much for everything you've done for our community. Absolutely invaluable and incredible.
My pleasure!
Me, not having fully painted a single miniature but having consumed hundreds of how to paint videos, and looking to complete my first squad:
Time to plunge down into the valley of despair!!
Many congratulations to you Vince. I hope you realise how much you have helped a lot of painters and hobbyists. Your passion comes through the screen and it inspires us all.
Also shout-out to Baz luhrmann ;).
Wonderful video Vince, congratulations on 400. Appreciated what I think is a take on the Sunscreen song!
Oh man, this homage makes me feel old. Love it, and congrats on 400.
Vince. Thanks. Thanks for taking the time to share lessons and advice all for free. Thank you. 🎉
That’s a really good note for sure!
First, congratulations on the staggering accomplishement that is 400 videos! Second, thank you, Vince--this was such a heartfelt video, one full of advice that we all need to hear.
400 episodes! Larry must be so proud!
Just the painting is always enough. Nothing more. Always happy to help. :)
Sunscreen speech... It transcends. Thank you Vince for making it relative to the hobby.
Finally, somebody else who recognised this.
damn man 400 already, i just cant keep up lol, thank you so much for all of your time and effort you put into this, simply the best painting videos on youtube
Thank you Vince. Your Exploring Colors videos have been integral to my growth. I sincerely appreciate your work as I've directly benefitted from the effort you have put into this channel.
This felt so much like therapy :) thank you so much for this and cheers for the 400 videos and to the next 400 :)
Thanks Vince, you are a legend. Your advice is spot on, enjoyment is the aim for me but that can often get forgotten!
LOL)
Awesome advice sir!
It's also cool to know eveyrone in this picture - 8:57 😊
Wear sunscreen! I have to go listen to this now....
Also well done on making it to 400, thanks for sharing all you have.
You have truly made my painting journey more enjoyable... thank you Vic
You are awesome congratulations on 400 what an amazing accomplishment. Keep the awesome tutorials coming.
Thanks brother, hope you’re doing well, better see you at NOVA this year
I plan to be there, after my divorce and mother passing, I haven’t been competitive painting. I miss hanging with you brother, I’m looking forward to it!
Man I reckon I've watched all 400 of these bad boys and I'm still a crap painter... But I'm MUCH better than I was! Thanks for making these Vince, it's an incredible resource.
Thanks for 400 fantastic videos, I'm looking forward to the next 400! Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)!
