The combat was my favourite in Dragons Dogma. Its so cinematic at times. I remember a pawned saved me once from a cyclops grip. Jumped on his face and stabbed him in the eye. They were on a cliff edge and they both went over. I still think of that pawn sometimes.

Surprised not one content creator is talking about the micro transactions Edit***** It appears that those who played the game before its official release were either unaware of or didn't have access to the in-game store. They became aware of the microtransactions at the same time as the rest of us did. There's no animosity intended, but it's concerning that Capcom wasn't transparent from the start about this aspect.
Those are just for the impatient fools without the patience to grind in a game where you can level up to 200. By the end of DD1 I had a hundreds of ferrystones, and millions of rift crystals
Loved that you mentioned that the exploration feel rewarding, like/since Elden Ring. For me that's super important, might give the game a fair chance for this only.
"rewards your curiosity like this one". No one hates getting down that dead end hallway to find no loot more than I. And so I seek the dead end of each hallway so to ensure there isn't loot. I'd hate to miss it.
Not much is worse than coming to a fork, choosing what I believe to be the "optional" path, only to trigger a cave in, or cut scene that never allows me to check the other path 😭

This is my favorite game since Elden Ring and might end up being one of my top 5 all time. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much, but I’ve not been able to stop playing, and me not being a hardcore gamer, that’s saying something. I love the world, the characters, the pawns, the monsters, everything about it is fantastic!! EXCEPT… the saving… I lost 2 hours of gameplay because I thought, “Reload at last inn sleep” included campfire sleep… I trudged right back through that two hours though and found stuff I didn’t find the first time. I’m still only less than 10 hours in, but it’s amazing so far!
Don't worry too much. If Bethesda keeps performing as they have been, you won't be an ES fan after ES6. ...I never really got the hype. Those games play terribly.
denuvo: our software doesn't affect performance every game that had it: we have slight performance issues even worse, the eventual cracked(no security system is airtight) versions outperform the denuvo versions.
3 of the best running, best optimized games I played last year had DRM. Lies of P and RE4 remake had denuvo, and armored core 6 had easy anti cheat. I'm guessing this game is just poorly optimized. It's happened to tons of AAA games, DRM not withstanding

Anyone who wants to play this while skipping the first game, remember that wolves hunt in packs and goblins are weak to fire. Haven't played DD since 2017 but I must have played it more than ten times. The combat is so satisfying and entertaining its ridiculous at times some of the shit that can happen

This game is awesome. I’m playing on Xbox series X and have had no problems. If you liked Dragons Dogma this is more and better. Huge, interesting open world, lots to do. Don’t care about the micro transactions, you don’t have to buy them to enjoy this game. Love it! Thank you Capcom, the wait was worth it. At least on Xbox.
Jank = Glitches, which ARE bugs. Minor, non game-breaking graphical bugs, but bugs nonetheless. And they do detract from the experience and overall immersion. These games get a lot of free passes that Western AAA's just don't.

I really want to continue, but I started a mage and realized that I’d rather go in on the first play through as a melee class. Problem is, I can’t start over, no delete button what so ever. I’m not talking about not wanting to overwrite my current save, I’m talking about not being able to delete, overwrite or start a new game period.
I know this is a genuine complaint, and I’m not saying this as like an “Ur dur” moment. But genuinely making a new (Even just sub) account on your system takes low effort, and allows you to have multiple saves, and pawns. If you’re on PC, I remember I was able to add/delete player files. Since they’re locked behind paywalls, I’m assuming that’s probably a bit more difficult now. But yeah, multiple accounts is the way to go
Never played the first game so this system was new to me but I'm in love with it. Having to walk everywhere and not being able to fast travel makes it feel so much more grounded and meaningful when going from point A to point B. Really feels like a fellowship, until getting new pawns and forming a new fellowship that is. Trying to not look up certain things as I do with most games but it's hard because knowing we only have one save file, I don't want to mess anything up or do it a wrong way because we only get one chance. Other than that, holy crap what a game! I even put aside the fact that my nice, new-ish VRR 120hz tv isn't being used to its full potential because damn, are there some lovely views. I'm looking at you night-time; with all your candle-lit ambiance. Not perfect, but almost. And even more important, it's the most fun I've had exploring since Elden Ring.
thank you 4 doing a BFYB on this game, ive never played DD1; but it def seems like a neat RPG. i like how it doesnt make you jump through hoops to get into the game, seems straightforward with its own quirky twists to it; i love a game that puts its own charm into a tried and true system while bringing something new to the table, i can always appreciate innovation. theres something special about a game that isnt scared to break away from the roots while still staying true to its predecessor. great commentary 🖤
the first one is like 10 bucks most of the time, after you do 2, you should totally give it a shot, it's dated, but only in the way it's always been, in that it didn't bother copying the dark souls standard of controls/combat. The graphics aren't even that backward either, so long as you don't look too closely.

Yeah it really looked like a dark souls game from that sequence, at times the game can be challenging and ive noticed the ai is smarter they will attack you more often if u go for revives and they literally chase u into safe cities long distances where the guards will attack them literally had a guard save my life running from hobgoblins as i ran out of stamina right infront of him, around early game checkpoint town, game is more cinematic and combat is improved in my opinion, the pawns can be broken because other players have low levels pawns with upgraded armor and weapons, the game is a great balance in chaklenge, i was concerned with not having a difficulty setting option when i started the game but i have already died multiple times but i defeated 2b ogres by knocking them off a cliff while getting ambushed off an ox cart at level 9 went straight to level 12 was using 3 pawns, the climbing is also improved everything is just improved from the last game and there has been more mechanics and content added and the no load screens is the best part
I'm thrilled to know pawns are back. I loved putting my pawn up for hire, and coming back a few days later, to see the rewards and comments other players left about my pawn.
I played the first one about 20 hours in and it just lost me. I never felt a great sense of progression, and the janky controls lost me. Im definitely going to retry the series with this one!

@@jordancave3089 I played originally, same as the guy you're replying to. ill say i got 20 hours in too, idr, and same as him, it just never hooked me. i felt bored playing. combat IS cool, and being able to mix classes and whatnot, but it just wasn't enough for me. Falcon kinda said it a few times, the story isnt there, the quests arent there. Theres nothing about this game that hooks you really. People just enjoy it, but that sounds like forced enjoyment to me. And now, same as you, I've tried circling back several times, and the game just feels old. graphically its fine, but like menu and UI, at least on PC (I played on PS3 originally), just doesnt feel good, game feels clunky. Honestly, for some reason, DD has become a bit of a cult classic. but if this were a new IP, with the jank, weak story, boring quests, etc, It would get torn apart. That all said, I'm not hating on the game, or the people who enjoy it or anything, i just dont see it.

This UA-camr won't tell any of you about PC performance in all honesty 100% because it's garbage, even on the newest cpu/gpu PC builds, already confirmed by many reviewers. They are all saying the same complaints. Capcom shoving Denuvo + Enigma into their game ruined it all. Have fun with this dumpster fire.
One of my favorite things about the first one is how generous with rewards and XP the game was so that it encouraged you to try out the different classes and builds in the same play through. You never felt committed to a single build or playstyle and you could pretty easily jump from nimble archer to big bonk and vice versa for your pawn. I hope they kept that for this one because it’s such a rare and unique piece of DD and a large reason why I love the first so much!
If you pay attention on the life bar, you can see that the fall damage would have killed him but he used something to heal mid-freefall. Gotta remember to do that when playing

thats why i hate it, always having the feeling that you are missing out on stuff, and to get rid of this feeling youre forced to look up stuff online for every single quest. Quests with no direction is so bad in big open worlds, you stack up on them and then 10 hours later you progress 1 of those quests without even remembering/noticing it ... i just cant understand whats so appealing to this 1990 design concept.
@@paybackkiller Different strokes for different folks I personally feel the exact opposite of how you do. Strict fail-able quests with open design make them feel alot more rewarding and well questlike to me IMO i feel having big signposts and markers ruins the exploration of most RPGs. Although DD quests are more in depth I will make the comparison of many Souls-Like quest lines being some of my favorite in rpgs because of how secretive and obscure they were.

I waited for the game to come out and get some updates. Well i tried it on a demo mode for 2 hours and man I fell in love with this. Just exploring completing quests with my pawns that were part lord of the rings, game of thrones, and dune characters hahahah. Just exploring a goblin cave while Gandalf casts fire and lighting while I’m cutting through them with sword and shield. Like just a lot of good fun.

the quests having multiple ways to solve is a staple in the original game. they want to implement the pawns understanding in different ways to solve said quests through exploring them with other arisens. yes its wonky and it sucks if you are early and nobody else did the quests yet but its still very awesome when your own pawn knows how to do things you wouldnt have known otherwise.
Excellent review! People are absolutely used at having very busy screens/maps full of icons and arrows, everything being told to them; developers being fearful that not over explaining stuff will make gamers leave, making their games "for everyone", thus losing their identity. You can tell from different reviews that those types of things are criticised in this game. This review makes evident that this game is its own thing, like it or not. I really liked that. Something similar happened with DD1. Those who criticised it early on, are the ones who now include it on their "Top Hidden Gems" lists. But hey... I have an idea that will unanimously make this a 10/10 game... only one tiny, simple & small decision is needed... PUTTING the "INTO FREE" SONG IN THE OPENING SCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are reviewers not criticising the lack of an option to at least cap the framerate at 30 or something, when clearly the uncapped framerate is such a dealbreaker for so many??? No one would have a problem if it was 60 fps but such an inconsistent performance is just outright bad!
Because alot of PC reviews are having issues in general running it......... you can debate all day long with 30 fps and 60 fps ... but the devs oddly did this why? who the heck knows, it runs at 60 fps on PC but sure as heck not optimized yet and who knows when they will patch patch it.....

If anyone has doubts about the Dragons Dogma Ai for the pawns, the ai in the first games for these pawns is absolutely gorgeous especially for how old the game is, some pawns will straight up catch you in the air while you fall from a dragon to save your life.+
I got a game over on Grigori because he flew me up 100 feet into the air to the point where it forced me to let go. I fell a very long way and not a single pawn caught me. Slammed into the ground and died instantly, taking me all the way back to phase 1...never been more pissed at a game's AI
Ok, it's been awhile now since I've bought anything new but I'm thinking about jumping into this one. Even more so after this review. Monster hunter mixed with a little Skyrim sounds pretty awesome. The way Falcon explains the "pawn" companions sounds a lot like Mass Effect to me which was another all time favorite of mine. I like RPG stuff but not the extreme ones where you need a guide to figure out how it all works, so this one sounds more in my lane. Thanks for the upload. Good stuff as always.
My biggest two issues with DD2 are that they crippled the vocations/system and that the story is bare bones to non existent, at least compared to the first game. I'm unsure how to feel now that strider is split into two separate classes and that ranger now has no dedicated melee weapon, it can get a little boring just spamming arrows. Not to mention, we can only have 4 skill equipped at a time, whereas in DD1 you had access to skills from both your primary and secondary weapon: sword and shield, bow and dagger, sword and bow. Spell casters could have six spells and warrior I believe also had more than 4 skills. When I obtained warfarer I thought it had so much potential, wear any armor, equip any skill and use every weapon with the ability to switch on the fly, until I discovered your skills don't change to match the weapon equipped, and you are limited to 3 separate skills if you want to use more than one weapon, because the weapon switch takes up a skill slot. Oh yeah the warfarer vocation also chunks your stats so you are SIGNIFICANTLY weaker in every aspect. Mystic spearhand is a poor replacement for mystic knight, some of the skills are cool but the uncharged magic bolt is useless and it lacks the versatility of mystic knight. Another thing is that the "hybrid" vocations don't feel like actual hybrids, they are unique granted but with the exception of magick archer they all lack the versatility that the DD1 hybrids brought, my main gripe being locking you into one weapon type. Lastly the game's story is good initially but it begins falling off once you enter Vermund and it just feels rushed. I have also failed to see any mention or reference to the story of the first game, which has some massive implications. Other things I had a problem with are glitches that range from minor inconveniences to locking me out of questlines and causing several characters to just disappear from the game or get locked into idle chatter, locking me out of skills. I loved the first game and I like this one, combat is great, pawn system is great, exploration is nice, and the world building is beautiful but until they fix the glitches or change the vocation system the game remains and will not go above a 7/10 for me.
I see a lot of comments about Microtransations. NONE of the MTX in this game are necessary, in fact if you didn't actively seek out the MTX you'd never even know they were there. the only content locked behind a paywall is some bits of OG sound design and music from the first game. Everything available through MTX is available in-game, and is far more common than it was in the first game. personal tangent here, but after 7 hours I had found a Port Crystal, and gotten multiple Ferrystones and Wakestones. Character editors are available for 500 units of a very common currency. Vocation changes are available for at least 100 RC, depending on the vocation you buy, and once bought, is permanently unlocked for that playthrough. allowing you to switch between any as you so desire MTX in this game just allow you to pay to not play the game, and again are not needed to progress or for any quality of life reasons given the the items in the MTX are relatively common and respawn. I would not understand the point of buying the game, just to pay the game to complete itself for you, but maybe some people just want to have it as flavor for their game library IDK.
I understand that point of view and agree I wouldn't bother paying myself, but if we agree it's there for something that shouldn't be needed in the first place by the player, what is its true value? If the answer is purely for easy money and that it relies on buyer impulse, then it is effectively predatory. Also I haven't played and that may vary with players so I'll trust your own experience, but I've also seen feedback that some of these items are really not that easy to find (like for the character edit I think), so that pressure to buy "for such a low price!" is still very sketchy I think. It doesn't help that in this case the PC port missed the mark on release, which adds suspicion on what's prioritized in the player's interest. A fully priced game should fully stand on its own, if that's the case it shouldn't have microtransactions. DLC value should match the base game proportionally (depends on the game but $1 per item is ridiculous). DLC bundles and "season passes" may include cosmetics, but already I have an issue in that it complicates making sure you're not taken advantage of, you have to go through a catalogue of prices and descriptions, while it should never be harder than checking 1 or 2 articles for a complete experience. Figuring out if the game is valuable in the first place is hard enough, and it's not always clear how extra content will fit.
before you buy : you cant dodge with all classes and you cant parry with all classes , also sometimes you will need specific type damages to damage the boss :/ ...... :/

Thanks for the video, the most important thing, for me, that you you said was that this one is a lot like the first one, which is enough for me to confidently pass on it, I just didn't like the systems, leveling, or how skills worked in the first one. Plus, while I don't like a lot of handholding in games, a little bit of it to smooth out the flow is preferred for me
The side quest about the orb and the ways to go about the quest gave me huge Oblivion vibes with that glarther character. And you sold me on thiw over Rise of Ronin.
The only thing holding me back from getting this game was the performance issues. I gave in recently and to my surprise, it's been patched and it's running smooth on PS5. Having a blast so far.
I was hyped, but when Ive seen the negative reviews, bad performance, microtransactions, one save file limitation etc., I will not be supporting this state of the game. I will be playing DDDA until CAPCOM fixes their shit, or until DD2 gets cracked
@@TheHexpane yes, DDDA has 1 character slot, but you can start a new one any time, while backing up the existing one by copying the save file on you PC ... DD2 is worse than that, you get one character without any option to start over

I'm glad that this is not multiplayer. All the clowns who keeps saying that single player games are dead, while the industry continues to push out bangers like Baldur's Gate 3, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty, Dead Space Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Final Fantasy Rebirth; can just sit down and shut up at this point. Single player games are absolutely NOT dead, and are what's keeping the gaming industry afloat. If you want to be immersed and relax and play and award winning game, then pick a good single player game and get lost. For people complaining about 30fps on consoles, get over it. The future doesn't have room to constantly limit games like they did for old gen. 30 fps isn't even bad when it actually STAYS at 30 fps. If bloodborne actuality stayed at 30 fps that would be great.

Exactly, mfers think 120 is required or else it sucks lmao, the human eye only notices 30-60 frames, at 120, pressing buttons makes me feel like I pressed the button AFTER it did the action its so fast, but its not required and changes nothing if the game itself is consistent and enjoyable

Fun Fact: Dragon's Dogma 1 content was some of the first stuff Gameranx ever showed, literally some of their earliest videos before "Before You Buy" even came out! I though I was gonna get lucky today at Walmart. Went there to pick up "Alone in the Dark" and noticed they had Dragins Dogma 2 already stocked. I got the lady to unlock the glass case and grab me a copy of both AITD and DD 2. She said age though this one doesn't release til Friday and I said yes, you are correct. She tried to work around on the computer but it would not let her ring it up (DD2). She could scan it but it wasn't in the system yet and therefore couldn't sell it to me😢
So odd that this game doesnt even have a performance mode, a game like this should easily be able to aim for 60FPS if you tweak a few graphical option. What the hell where they thinking??
Oh man remember being so excited seeing this game before release but I don't game as much these days and I still had a PS4 so seeing it was for current gen consoles, I woefully bowed my cheap, out of date head in despair and eventually forgot all about it. 😓 Well, I can now happily say I finally ordered a PS5 and this is 100% going to be thie first single player game I purchase. Yes are these games perfect? Definitely not. Not even close lol but Capcom knows what they're doing and although I'd really like to have seen some tweaks made to the games, theres no doubt the good parts of DD2 will once again make up for the quirks. I really like how it looks like they didn't change too much up from the original, rather just improved on the formula. Daddy's back. Cant wait to embark on my DD2 journey. This is my favorite game since Elden Ring and might end up being one of my top 5 all time. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much, but I’ve not been able to stop playing, and me not being a hardcore gamer, that’s saying something. I love the world, the characters, the pawns, the monsters, everything about it is fantastic!! EXCEPT… the saving… I lost 2 hours of gameplay because I thought, “Reload at last inn sleep” included campfire sleep… I trudged right back through that two hours though and found stuff I didn’t find the first time. I’m still only less than 10 hours in, but it’s amazing so far!

even worse, the eventual cracked(no security system is airtight) versions outperform the denuvo versions.

3 of the best running, best optimized games I played last year had DRM. Lies of P and RE4 remake had denuvo, and armored core 6 had easy anti cheat. I'm guessing this game is just poorly optimized. It's happened to tons of AAA games, DRM not withstanding

This game is awesome. I’m playing on Xbox series X and have had no problems. If you liked Dragons Dogma this is more and better. Huge, interesting open world, lots to do. Don’t care about the micro transactions, you don’t have to buy them to enjoy this game. Love it! Thank you Capcom, the wait was worth it. At least on Xbox.

Jank = Glitches, which ARE bugs. Minor, non game-breaking graphical bugs, but bugs nonetheless. And they do detract from the experience and overall immersion.

I really want to continue, but I started a mage and realized that I’d rather go in on the first play through as a melee class. Problem is, I can’t start over, no delete button what so ever. I’m not talking about not wanting to overwrite my current save, I’m talking about not being able to delete, overwrite or start a new game period.

You can change classes freely, even max out multiple vocations. I agree though, 1 save slot is dumb, it was a big complaint about the first game too.

I know this is a genuine complaint, and I’m not saying this as like an “Ur dur” moment. But genuinely making a new (Even just sub) account on your system takes low effort, and allows you to have multiple saves, and pawns. If you’re on PC, I remember I was able to add/delete player files. Since they’re locked behind paywalls, I’m assuming that’s probably a bit more difficult now. But yeah, multiple accounts is the way to go

Never played the first game so this system was new to me but I'm in love with it. Having to walk everywhere and not being able to fast travel makes it feel so much more grounded and meaningful when going from point A to point B. Really feels like a fellowship, until getting new pawns and forming a new fellowship that is. Trying to not look up certain things as I do with most games but it's hard because knowing we only have one save file, I don't want to mess anything up or do it a wrong way because we only get one chance. Other than that, holy crap what a game!
I even put aside the fact that my nice, new-ish VRR 120hz tv isn't being used to its full potential because damn, are there some lovely views. I'm looking at you night-time; with all your candle-lit ambiance. Not perfect, but almost. And even more important, it's the most fun I've had exploring since Elden Ring.

thank you 4 doing a BFYB on this game, ive never played DD1; but it def seems like a neat RPG. i like how it doesnt make you jump through hoops to get into the game, seems straightforward with its own quirky twists to it; i love a game that puts its own charm into a tried and true system while bringing something new to the table, i can always appreciate innovation. theres something special about a game that isnt scared to break away from the roots while still staying true to its predecessor. great commentary 🖤
the first one is like 10 bucks most of the time, after you do 2, you should totally give it a shot, it's dated, but only in the way it's always been, in that it didn't bother copying the dark souls standard of controls/combat. The graphics aren't even that backward either, so long as you don't look too closely.

Yeah it really looked like a dark souls game from that sequence, at times the game can be challenging and ive noticed the ai is smarter they will attack you more often if u go for revives and they literally chase u into safe cities long distances where the guards will attack them literally had a guard save my life running from hobgoblins as i ran out of stamina right infront of him, around early game checkpoint town, game is more cinematic and combat is improved in my opinion, the pawns can be broken because other players have low levels pawns with upgraded armor and weapons, the game is a great balance in chaklenge, i was concerned with not having a difficulty setting option when i started the game but i have already died multiple times but i defeated 2b ogres by knocking them off a cliff while getting ambushed off an ox cart at level 9 went straight to level 12 was using 3 pawns, the climbing is also improved everything is just improved from the last game and there has been more mechanics and content added and the no load screens is the best part

I played the first one about 20 hours in and it just lost me. I never felt a great sense of progression, and the janky controls lost me. Im definitely going to retry the series with this one!

Falcon kinda said it a few times, the story isnt there, the quests arent there. Theres nothing about this game that hooks you really. People just enjoy it, but that sounds like forced enjoyment to me. And now, same as you, I've tried circling back several times, and the game just feels old. graphically its fine, but like menu and UI, at least on PC (I played on PS3 originally), just doesnt feel good, game feels clunky. Honestly, for some reason, DD has become a bit of a cult classic. but if this were a new IP, with the jank, weak story, boring quests, etc, It would get torn apart. That all said, I'm not hating on the game, or the people who enjoy it or anything, i just dont see it.

This UA-camr won't tell any of you about PC performance in all honesty 100% because it's garbage, even on the newest cpu/gpu PC builds, already confirmed by many reviewers. They are all saying the same complaints. Capcom shoving Denuvo + Enigma into their game ruined it all. Have fun with this dumpster fire.
One of my favorite things about the first one is how generous with rewards and XP the game was so that it encouraged you to try out the different classes and builds in the same play through. You never felt committed to a single build or playstyle and you could pretty easily jump from nimble archer to big bonk and vice versa for your pawn.
I hope they kept that for this one because it’s such a rare and unique piece of DD and a large reason why I love the first so much!

thats why i hate it, always having the feeling that you are missing out on stuff, and to get rid of this feeling youre forced to look up stuff online for every single quest. Quests with no direction is so bad in big open worlds, you stack up on them and then 10 hours later you progress 1 of those quests without even remembering/noticing it ... i just cant understand whats so appealing to this 1990 design concept.

Strict fail-able quests with open design make them feel alot more rewarding and well questlike to me IMO i feel having big signposts and markers ruins the exploration of most RPGs. Although DD quests are more in depth I will make the comparison of many Souls-Like quest lines being some of my favorite in rpgs because of how secretive and obscure they were.

I waited for the game to come out and get some updates. Well i tried it on a demo mode for 2 hours and man I fell in love with this. Just exploring completing quests with my pawns that were part lord of the rings, game of thrones, and dune characters hahahah. Just exploring a goblin cave while Gandalf casts fire and lighting while I’m cutting through them with sword and shield. Like just a lot of good fun.
I just started today and someone made a Gandalf pawn...I'm starting to think it's your pawn lmao no offense, he does shoot lightning which is sick. And his name is Gandalf lol

the quests having multiple ways to solve is a staple in the original game. they want to implement the pawns understanding in different ways to solve said quests through exploring them with other arisens. yes its wonky and it sucks if you are early and nobody else did the quests yet but its still very awesome when your own pawn knows how to do things you wouldnt have known otherwise.

The first game had issues with the initial hours. The hydra head escort quest if I remember was the point where most people bounced.

People are absolutely used at having very busy screens/maps full of icons and arrows, everything being told to them; developers being fearful that not over explaining stuff will make gamers leave, making their games "for everyone", thus losing their identity. You can tell from different reviews that those types of things are criticised in this game. This review makes evident that this game is its own thing, like it or not. I really liked that.
Something similar happened with DD1. Those who criticised it early on, are the ones who now include it on their "Top Hidden Gems" lists.
But hey... I have an idea that will unanimously make this a 10/10 game... only one tiny, simple & small decision is needed...

Why are reviewers not criticising the lack of an option to at least cap the framerate at 30 or something, when clearly the uncapped framerate is such a dealbreaker for so many??? No one would have a problem if it was 60 fps but such an inconsistent performance is just outright bad!
Because alot of PC reviews are having issues in general running it......... you can debate all day long with 30 fps and 60 fps ... but the devs oddly did this why? who the heck knows, it runs at 60 fps on PC but sure as heck not optimized yet and who knows when they will patch patch it.....

If anyone has doubts about the Dragons Dogma Ai for the pawns, the ai in the first games for these pawns is absolutely gorgeous especially for how old the game is, some pawns will straight up catch you in the air while you fall from a dragon to save your life.+

Ok, it's been awhile now since I've bought anything new but I'm thinking about jumping into this one. Even more so after this review. Monster hunter mixed with a little Skyrim sounds pretty awesome. The way Falcon explains the "pawn" companions sounds a lot like Mass Effect to me which was another all time favorite of mine. I like RPG stuff but not the extreme ones where you need a guide to figure out how it all works, so this one sounds more in my lane. Thanks for the upload. Good stuff as always.

Dragon's Dogma 2 ; "Monster Hunter had a weird baby with Skyrim." 😅
My biggest two issues with DD2 are that they crippled the vocations/system and that the story is bare bones to non existent, at least compared to the first game. I'm unsure how to feel now that strider is split into two separate classes and that ranger now has no dedicated melee weapon, it can get a little boring just spamming arrows. Not to mention, we can only have 4 skill equipped at a time, whereas in DD1 you had access to skills from both your primary and secondary weapon: sword and shield, bow and dagger, sword and bow. Spell casters could have six spells and warrior I believe also had more than 4 skills. When I obtained warfarer I thought it had so much potential, wear any armor, equip any skill and use every weapon with the ability to switch on the fly, until I discovered your skills don't change to match the weapon equipped, and you are limited to 3 separate skills if you want to use more than one weapon, because the weapon switch takes up a skill slot. Oh yeah the warfarer vocation also chunks your stats so you are SIGNIFICANTLY weaker in every aspect. Mystic spearhand is a poor replacement for mystic knight, some of the skills are cool but the uncharged magic bolt is useless and it lacks the versatility of mystic knight. Another thing is that the "hybrid" vocations don't feel like actual hybrids, they are unique granted but with the exception of magick archer they all lack the versatility that the DD1 hybrids brought, my main gripe being locking you into one weapon type.
Lastly the game's story is good initially but it begins falling off once you enter Vermund and it just feels rushed. I have also failed to see any mention or reference to the story of the first game, which has some massive implications. Other things I had a problem with are glitches that range from minor inconveniences to locking me out of questlines and causing several characters to just disappear from the game or get locked into idle chatter, locking me out of skills.
I loved the first game and I like this one, combat is great, pawn system is great, exploration is nice, and the world building is beautiful but until they fix the glitches or change the vocation system the game remains and will not go above a 7/10 for me.
I see a lot of comments about Microtransations. NONE of the MTX in this game are necessary, in fact if you didn't actively seek out the MTX you'd never even know they were there.
the only content locked behind a paywall is some bits of OG sound design and music from the first game. Everything available through MTX is available in-game, and is far more common than it was in the first game.
personal tangent here, but after 7 hours I had found a Port Crystal, and gotten multiple Ferrystones and Wakestones.
Character editors are available for 500 units of a very common currency. Vocation changes are available for at least 100 RC, depending on the vocation you buy, and once bought, is permanently unlocked for that playthrough. allowing you to switch between any as you so desire
MTX in this game just allow you to pay to not play the game, and again are not needed to progress or for any quality of life reasons given the the items in the MTX are relatively common and respawn.
I would not understand the point of buying the game, just to pay the game to complete itself for you, but maybe some people just want to have it as flavor for their game library IDK.
I understand that point of view and agree I wouldn't bother paying myself, but if we agree it's there for something that shouldn't be needed in the first place by the player, what is its true value? If the answer is purely for easy money and that it relies on buyer impulse, then it is effectively predatory. Also I haven't played and that may vary with players so I'll trust your own experience, but I've also seen feedback that some of these items are really not that easy to find (like for the character edit I think), so that pressure to buy "for such a low price!" is still very sketchy I think. It doesn't help that in this case the PC port missed the mark on release, which adds suspicion on what's prioritized in the player's interest.
A fully priced game should fully stand on its own, if that's the case it shouldn't have microtransactions. DLC value should match the base game proportionally (depends on the game but $1 per item is ridiculous). DLC bundles and "season passes" may include cosmetics, but already I have an issue in that it complicates making sure you're not taken advantage of, you have to go through a catalogue of prices and descriptions, while it should never be harder than checking 1 or 2 articles for a complete experience. Figuring out if the game is valuable in the first place is hard enough, and it's not always clear how extra content will fit.
That last comment about the music had me going. Pls just bring back "Into Free" great opening song.

Jumping into Dragons Dogma for the first time ever, been enjoying my time there so far! Looking forward to this one further down the line, probably been in a much more optimized state when I do dive in 😌
For everyone asking why microtransactions are not mentioned in the review, from my understanding capcom only turnt on the microtransactions AFTER the majority of reviews where released. A move worth of a dirty dev video, IF true.
Sounds about right after the game went live on steam I saw right there the micro transactions got loaded as the game unlocked for download.
Thanks for the video, the most important thing, for me, that you you said was that this one is a lot like the first one, which is enough for me to confidently pass on it, I just didn't like the systems, leveling, or how skills worked in the first one. Plus, while I don't like a lot of handholding in games, a little bit of it to smooth out the flow is preferred for me

The side quest about the orb and the ways to go about the quest gave me huge Oblivion vibes with that glarther character. And you sold me on thiw over Rise of Ronin.
The duplicate thing isn't restricted to that side-quest either, it's an integrated duping mechanic in-game.

I was hyped, but when Ive seen the negative reviews, bad performance, microtransactions, one save file limitation etc., I will not be supporting this state of the game. I will be playing DDDA until CAPCOM fixes their shit, or until DD2 gets cracked
This is a nonsense take. DDDA had 1 character slot. the microtransactions are the SAME for every Capcom game, 100% optional fluff

I'm glad that this is not multiplayer. All the clowns who keeps saying that single player games are dead, while the industry continues to push out bangers like Baldur's Gate 3, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty, Dead Space Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Final Fantasy Rebirth; can just sit down and shut up at this point.
Single player games are absolutely NOT dead, and are what's keeping the gaming industry afloat. If you want to be immersed and relax and play and award winning game, then pick a good single player game and get lost. If you want to rage and get pissed off and play a shitty multiplayer game with a pay wall behind it, then choose multiplayer 😂🤣

@@bigcojino you cannot, it's up to the dev to patch it in for LFC. series X has it built into it at hardware level so works out of the box for all games including DD2. PS5 version doesn't have LFC
For people complaining about 30fps on consoles, get over it. The future doesn't have room to constantly limit games like they did for old gen. 30 fps isn't even bad when it actually STAYS at 30 fps. If bloodborne actuality stayed at 30 fps that would be great.

Bloodborne does stay at 30fps. But only if you have a PS4 pro or a ps5.

Exactly, mfers think 120 is required or else it sucks lmao, the human eye only notices 30-60 frames, at 120, pressing buttons makes me feel like I pressed the button AFTER it did the action its so fast, but its not required and changes nothing if the game itself is consistent and enjoyable

Changing your character's appearance can be done in game at any time using in game currency.

I though I was gonna get lucky today at Walmart. Went there to pick up "Alone in the Dark" and noticed they had Dragins Dogma 2 already stocked. I got the lady to unlock the glass case and grab me a copy of both AITD and DD 2. She said age though this one doesn't release til Friday and I said yes, you are correct. She tried to work around on the computer but it would not let her ring it up (DD2). She could scan it but it wasn't in the system yet and therefore couldn't sell it to me😢

Oh man remember being so excited seeing this game before release but I don't game as much these days and I still had a PS4 so seeing it was for current gen consoles, I woefully bowed my cheap, out of date head in despair and eventually forgot all about it. 😓
Well, I can now happily say I finally ordered a PS5 and this is 100% going to be thie first single player game I purchase.
Yes are these games perfect? Definitely not. Not even close lol but Capcom knows what they're doing and although I'd really like to have seen some tweaks made to the games, theres no doubt the good parts of DD2 will once again make up for the quirks. I really like how it looks like they didn't change too much up from the original, rather just improved on the formula.
