I remember the old youth club and Fr. McLoone, a Father Ted like character. There were many others like him, and still are today. We got our swimming pool, schools, sports facilities, investment, luxury homes etc. Today the RTC is part of a Technological University. Living away from the town today, the challenge now is develop better road infrastructure to Dublin.

In 1985 a more permanent marble altar was built into the sanctuary, which is still there today. Otherwise the cathedral has remained largely unaltered since it was opened in 1901.

You clearly misunderstand what the priest is saying, he’s talking about “instructing” them in matters of faith,. For those entering into a mixed marriage the non-catholic often became Catholic, that’s the realm where the instruction took place. The priest in fact seems very open, in terms of 1975 this was pretty good.
